Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 87. Then...?
Chapter 87: 87. Then...?
Alex just held her close, gently stroking her back as she cried. He could feel her tears soak in his suit, but that was not even a problem to him. Each time her body trembled, his heart caved in. He never intended to bury, and he never will, but somehow, he had done just that.
He knew how many times she had been hurt. Gotten her heart broken and in similar ways. Cheating partners who didn’t think she was enough. But he was not like that. Those people didn’t know her worth, and he did. To him, there was no one better than her, for she had his heart at her possession.
"There is only one woman in my heart, and that woman is you. No one else," he started when her sobs had settled down a bit, and she could hear him properly. "I don’t need another woman because you are more than enough for me, Sara. No one else can ever take your place in my heart. It has been like this for years, and it won’t change now," he heard suck in a deep breath followed by a hiccup. He continued stroking her back.
"There is no way that I will ever disrespect you in such a way. I will never stoop so low. Not for anyone," he continued. "I have no feelings for that woman. I never will because all of me belongs to you and you alone. This is my promise to you."
Sara was calm now, his words, though they could be considered as sweet nothings he is saying to her to coax her did ease up her heart a bit. Maybe his words were working on her, but her mind was clear now.
The ache in her heart still persists but not as prominent as before.
Maybe it was because he chased after her. Or he because be didn’t try to cook up to feed her with, but she wanted to believe his words. To believe him. Besides their close proximity, she didn’t see anything else. They didn’t do anything. And he didn’t hesitate to go after her.
"I am sorry I hurt you even though it was never my intention to hurt you," he buried his nose in her hair, taking in the scent of her shampoo along with her natural scent. "I will be more cautious of my proximity with any other woman from now on." Alex was determined to make sure nothing like what happened today ever happened again. Whatever it would take, he would make sure to keep this promise. "Please don’t leave me, my love. I don’t think I’ll be able to bear it."
Sara raised her head to look at her. Her tear stricken face shattering his heart. Her eyes still glistened with unscheduled tears.
Sara didn’t know why she cried so much when she had promised not to cry for any man. Or why it only happened when she was in his arms, but right now, she didn’t care anymore. She met his gaze, not caring how she looked right now. However pitiful she may be, he had seen her at her worst already.
She opened her mouth to speak, but only one word found its way out, "Then...?"
Alex didn’t reply immediately. Instead, he took his time to wipe away her tears with his thumbs and then kissed her forehead. "This is our first meeting. I don’t know how, but I do know why she is here," he receded, and she blinked, waiting for him to clarify. "She is here for you."

Earlier in the president’s office,
A few minutes after Alex arrived, Kai walked in and told him that the person sent by Trevor Goldman had come and demanded an audience with him. Alex looked at the time, it wasn’t time for official office activities, but he thought he could entertain this person before that time. At the very least, before Sara would come, he would be done with the person.
He could either send the person away before she came or introduce them to each other once she arrived.
"Send them in," he said to Kai, who didn’t hesitate to go and bring the person.
Moments later. Kai opened the door, and a woman walked in much to Alex’s surprise. He had expected a man, but then, he preferred having women around Sara. At least he knows that they won’t try anything. Not that he didn’t trust Sara, but he just could not trust other men around her.
"Mr Legend," the brown haired lady said as she strutted in. She was in a black pantsuit with the insignia of the Goldmans crested on the left pocket. Her brown hair was styled into a ponytail, and beside the pair of earin and a wrist watch, there was no other jewelry or adornment on her. "I am Sadie Brown. It is a pleasure meeting you," she said, her tone professional.
"I can’t say the same," Alex had replied, but he pointed to the empty seat in front of him. "Have a seat, and let’s talk."
Sadie didn’t take his words to heart. She had heard of what the Goldmans did to the young lady, and she was rather pleased with how he was suspicious of anyone coming from them. It meant he cared about Miss Goldman.
"What makes you think you are capable of protecting her, Miss Brown? I have enough people around her to keep her safe, and you are not needed," Alex had said, and she frowned.
She had initially thought well of him, and his position and name as a legend descent was enough to earn her respect, but she was not going to let a man tell her that she was not good enough. Her gaze turned sharp as she stared at him.
"If I was noy capable enough, my master, Mr Goldman, wouldn’t have sent me here to protect his daughter," she said. Her tone, firm, la king all the warmth and respect it had when she came in. "So, Mr Legend, if you don’t mind, take me to the Young Miss."
Alex liked her tough persona, but that didn’t mean she was still good enough. Nor will he just tell her where Sara was because she asked for it. What would happen if she were to meet someone stronger than her? Is it someone more stubborn and domineering? Or if she was ever to come into a situation where she would have to make a choice between her life and that of Sara’s? Then what?
He wanted someone who wouldn’t hesitate to put their life on the line for his woman. And if this woman wasn’t ready for that, she might as well be set back and only his people, those he trusts would be around Sara to protect her. Even if it would only be from the shadows.
Alec stood up and made his way around the desk. His gaze still held hers, not blinking for even a second.
Sadie immediately became alert as soon as he stood up. She felt the danger in his gaze, and every step he took set off the alarm in her head . She sprung to her feet, but he cornered her when she suddenly increased his pace and appeared behind her. She spun around sharply and found him ooming over her. She hated the fact that men were taller than women. She wasn’t intimidated, but she hated having to look up at him.
They held each other’s gaze in silence, with none ready to be the first to blink. She could tell he was testing her, but it still infuriated her that someone was questioning her capabilities. She was trained to be one of Mr. Goldman’s protectors, but since he couldn’t leave his home anymore, she was called to be his hand maiden. But now that the incident of assassination occurred, Mr Goldman thought her talents were being wasted in the villa as his personal maid and chef. So he sent her here.
If she was not capable enough, Trevor wouldn’t have sent her, and she was not in the mood to disappoint the man who saved and raised her, making her the woman she was proud of today.
"Where is Miss Goldman, Mr Legend?" she asked, her voice low but audible.
But just then, there was a knock on the door, she thought he would step back and permit the person to come in, but he didn’t. He also didn’t give her the answers she needed.
"Mr Legend?" she called in a warning tone, but another knock on the door interrupted them. Another followed it almost immediately. "It might be important, you know," she smirked.
Even without Alex giving permission, the door opened, and a woman walked through it. What caught Sadie’s attention was the shock in her eyes, which quickly turned into disappointment and then something she wasn’t able to understand. But she assumed that there was something between Alex and that woman, so she stepped back. It was not her intention to cause a conflict between lovers.
Her assumptions were confirmed when Alex turned around, and his expression shifted as his face paled. "Sara..." he said, but she smiled and walked away.
