Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 86. How Many Times...?
Chapter 86: 86. How Many Times...?
Sara sat before the vanity mirror. Her cheeks flushed as she remembered wha5 happened just moments ago, but there was a beautiful smile on her lips. Alex had left, but he made sure they had their breakfast together. For the first time in two days. Sara found her appetite again, and she could taste the food properly as well.
It was as if his presence made everything better, sweeter, and a lot more colorful.
"Maybe that was indeed the right thing to do," she told herself as she carried out her skincare routine. Once done with her routine, she went into the closet to find something to wear. She wanted to dress to impress, but she was still a secretary and had to follow a dress code. But she didn’t apply some makeup and a bright colored lipstick, which she usually wouldn’t apply while going to work.
With a pair of stilettos on her feet, Sara was ready to leave. Everyone who saw her today could immediately see the difference in her. Her skin seems to glow, unlike the gloomy look she had last night or the morning before. And her smile today reached her eyes.
"You seem quite lively today, Miss," Mrs Lawson, who had come to walk her out, commented. She smiled. Whatever the Young Master did worked and she was very pleased to see the effect on the young lady. "I suppose you and the young master have settled your little conflict?"
"Was it that obvious?" Sara asked, genuinely surprised that the woman knee something was wrong because she didn’t think it was as obvious for others to know.
Mrs Lawson didn’t reply, but she gave a small smile. "It is wonderful to see your genuine smile again, Miss," she said as they got to the door and she opened it for Sara. "Have a lovely day, Madam."
"Thank you, Mrs Lawson," Sara smiled at her before she went into her car. She took a moment to process what she had heard. She had to be careful in the future. She could allow others to read her so easily like she did this time around.
She drove to Legend Corp. just a few minutes before she would have been late. Although she doubted Alex would mind since he told her to take her time and only come when she was ready. But she was not one to take advantage of an opportunity Ike when she knew what was right to be done.
Taking the president’s elevator, she arrived at the top floor in no time. Getting to her cubicle, she dropped her bag and decided to prepare for the day as she went through Alex’s schedule. Once done with that, she headed for his office. On her way there. She met with Kai.
"Good morning, secretary Skylar," she greeted him. The first thing that Kai noticed was her mood. It was the same thing with Alex when he first saw him this morning.
"Good morning, Miss Ambrose. How are you today," He asked. Although he wanted to hut himself in the head for asking that seeing as she practically glowing. But it was still the polite thing to do.
"uhm... I am alright. Is Alex inside?" she asked, changing the conversation before it became awkward.
"He is but..." he trailed as he wasn’t sure whether to tell her or not. "He is inside. Mis. Ambrose," he decided that she could go and see things for herself.
"Alright. Thank you," she said, walking past him. Kai smiled as he walked to his own cubicle. He didn’t know whether to be jealous of his friend at this point for being right about the result of his little game or at the fact that he was still single.
Meanwhile, Sara knocked on the door but did not get any reply, and she frowned, but she could hear muffled voices inside, so she thought they didn’t hear her knocking. After knocking the third time, she opened the door, and the voice of a woman reached her ears. From behind the door, it was unclear who was talking. She had assumed Alex was on a video call or something but didn’t expect him to have someone inside with him.
"President, I..." she paused as soon as the people inside came into view. Sara didn’t want to read too much into it, but how couod she went everything was right in front of her? Their proximity. The way he stared into each other’s eyes. Sara could not deny what she saw.
Alex had his back to her, so the first person to see her was the woman. She quickly took a step back, and that was when Alex realized that something was wrong.
"Sara..." As soon as he turned around, his eyes met with Sara’s eyes that were fighting the tears that threatened to spill.
Her lips curved into the sadest smile that he had ever since, and then she nodded her head at him before she took backward steps and disappeared behind the door. She closed tye gently as if she didn’t want to interrupt them.
"I think she misunderstood something," the woman said, and Alex wanted to strange her right there and then. But he didn’t. Instead, he went after his woman, who had completely misunderstood him and what was going on inside the office. "Before you go, can you at least tell me where she is? She is the reason I am here. You can’t keep her away from me, Mr Legend," she yelled, but after him but he was gone even before she could finish talking. "What a pain," the woman grumbled before storming out of the office, too.
She would have yo find her by herself since the man is useless.
Meanwhile, Sara returned to her cubicle and started packing up her bag. She still refused to shed a single tear even when her visions became blurry because of the tears that it her eyes. She refused to cry because of a man. But it hury so badly she couldn’t keeping them all from spilling.
Who would have thought that just moment after she opened her heart to him, he would rip it apart like this. He was aware of her past relationships. If not all, then the one with Adam, but he still chose to hurt her this way. She cheated on her right after she confessed to him.
"I am such a fool. I actually believe he could be different," she said to herself. Tears streamed down her eyes, but she roughly wiped them off her face. If she would cry, she should do it after she gets away from here and returns to her apartment.
"Sara," she didn’t turn even when she k ew he was right there, behind her. She didn’t want him to see how messed up she was because of him. She wouldn’t give him that satisfaction. "Sara please listen to me. It’s not what you think."
Sara turned so abruptly that he had to take a step back to avoid a collision.
"It’s not what i think it is?" She asked with a nod. How many times does she have to hear these exact same words from cheating men? It was funny how they all tend to say the same lines. "It doesn’t have to be, and it doesn’t matter anymore, Alex. I am quitting," she said, and she tried to walk past him, but he wouldn’t let.
"You can quit if that’s what you want, but let me explain what happened?" Alex tried to explain, but she wouldn’t let him.
"Let go of me, Alex," she tried to escape his grip, but it was all vain efforts. The more she struggled, the more she felt weak. Nit just her physical strength, she knew she could never overpower him in hat aspect but her emotions were all over the place. Seeing with another woman hurt even more than when she caught Adam in the act. Or Amy of her exes for that matter.
Why? Sara didn’t know the answer to that, and it added to her frustration.
"Let me go, Alex... please. I beg you, let me go," she hated that he emotions were getting the bettering her but she could keep it contained anymore. She hit his chest many times, but her punches only grew weaker with each hit. She was powerless when he pulled her in his arms, enveloping in his embrace. Her face buried into his chest as her glands broke loose and the tears poured out.
"Please, just le me go. Please..." her voice came out weak as she kept on leading while he didn’t say anything, just waiting for her to calm down. He k ows that if he says anything right now, while she was still like this, she would misunderstand.
