Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 84. Someone From The Goldmans
Chapter 84: 84. Someone From The Goldmans
Alex was restless as she got stuck in traffic on the way out. Cars flanked them on every side, and he couldn’t even turn back to find another route. The more time he wasted there, the more restless he became. As seconds became minutes and minutes to hours, Alex had cursed so many times that he had lost count.
Apparently, a loaded trailer vehicle had an accident, and it was taking time to get out all the goods and move the vehicle.
Alex looked at his wristwatch again and sighed. She would be in bed soon, and he had to get to her before that. If walking was an option, then he would have, but the distance was still quite much.
The driver who had gone to see how things were going returned and shook his head when he met Alex’ gaze. "It might still take some time, President," Ian replied.
"Did you find another route?" Alex asked, and he shook his head.
"We can’t leave the traffic. But I have contacted Austin. He should be here soon with another car, but you’ll have to walk a bit " he looked out the window, and Alex followed his gaze. "The road below us will take longer, but it is free and..."
"That will be fine," Anything was better than just waiting here. He opened the door and started walking. I am could onky shake his head knowing exactly his president was so restless and eager to return home. It was his fault for ignoring the lady, and now he was the one suffering for it.
By the time Alex got down the bridge, the car Ian had xalled for was already there waiting, and he didn’t hesitate for a second to enter inside. Austin, although rarely drove the president, was accustomed to his ways. He started driving immediately, going as fast as the speed limit would allow him.
About thirty minutes later, they were at Opulent Oaks. The silent neighborhood gave him a sense of relief. He was finally here.
As the car parked, he made hus way inside, but it was even more quiet inside with only a few lights left on. Mrs Lawson must have left already, but that didn’t matter. As long as she did what he requested, then there was no problem at all.
Alex made his way up to the room. He turned the door handle and slowly opened it. The inside was dark, which was evident that the person inside was already fast asleep. He sighed and took his steps inside. Reaching the bed, he turned on the bedside lamp.
He sat beside her. His hands itching to caress the tender skin of her face, but he was hesitant. What if she woke up and caught him?
She stirred in her sleep, and her brows pulled together. It appears she was having a nightmare.
Without thinking for a second, he placed his palm on her cheek, gently stroking it, and he saw her relax under his touch. At least he had this effect on her. he thought.
"I am sorry I had to result in this," he muttered under his breath. She subconsciously leaned into his palm, and he smiled. "I just want you to realize and come to terms with your own feelings, Sara."
He lips moved as if saying something, but no words came out. He chuckled at her childlike behavior. It was cute, and he loved it.
"You need to put something in your stomach," his hand moved down to her stomach, although she was still under the duvet. "But how can I wake you now?" he said conflicted between letting her rest and waking her to eat. She looks so peaceful right now that he couldn’t bring himself to wake her.
He leaned forward her kissed her slightly parted lips and then her oirhead before he stood up and switched off the lamp. "I’ll let you sleep," he said before he left the room as silently as possible. Buy as soon as the door closed behind him, Sara’s eyes opened, and she frowned.
"Alex..?" She looked around the room and at the door but there was no there. "Right. He isn’t here," he expression fell again. The huge bed felt cold and empty, and she could only hug herself and pull the duvet further up, almost covering her face too.
Alex went into the study and turned on the lights. He wanted to try and have some work done. If possible, speak with Nicholas about his trip to the Goldmans. But when he couldn’t focus on his work, and Nicholas was unreachable, probably in bed already, he found a mail from Nicholas with everything he needed to know.
Nicholas must have asked Albert to send it.
Reading the mail, Alex was satufued with what he read. At least Trevor wasn’t being stubborn. But what bothered him was his request to meet Sara in person and the fact that he had sent someone to keep watch over her.
He would have assumed this person was a spy but then, they man was being forceful and from the mail, Nicholas had assured him the person was coming as a spy but as a bodyguard and if Sara would allow, her assistant too.
He replied to the mail, asking to meet the person first before they met with Sara. Since he was not expecting a reply immediately, he powers off the laptop and left the study.
Whoever he would be meeting would have to be in the morning. Right now, he wanted to lay beside her. It didn’t matter whether she woke up and met him there or not. He just wanted to be near her tonight.
But before that, he decided to call Kai.
"It is late, you know. Some of us still need our sleep," Kai’s usual whining came, and he sighed, not having the patient for it.
"Someone from the Goldmans will be visiting tomorrow, make the necessary arrangements," he said before he could keep going. "Contact Albert for the more details." He then disconnected the call.
