Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 80. Surprise Visit
Chapter 80: 80. Surprise Visit
Nicholas arrived at the Crawford residence and walked in with Mr. North, leading the way. Everyone who saw him was visibly surprised knowing the years long animosity between Nicholas and Willaims.
Even Williams himself was shocked, too, when he received a call from the gate that Nicholas had come to see. After their not so friendly last encounter, expecting a visit from Nicholas was the last thing on his mind... if it was even there.
"In here, Sire," Mr North said as he opened the door for Nicholas.
"Thank you," Nicholas said, and the door closed behind him.
Behind the desk was Williams, whose apparent shock was not at all hidden. He rose to his feet and walked around the desk.
"This is rather unexpected, Nicholas," he said, not intending to sound rude but truly stating his surprise. "What brings you here?" He said while gesturing to the seats at the side away from the desk.
"Can I at least first before the questions? I am already exhausted as I am," Nicholas said as he followed Williams to the seats.
Williams’ brows pulled together as he didn’t quite understand what he meant, but he said anything about it. "Would you like to have anything? Tea? Water? or maybe some wine?"
Nicholas waved his hands. "I have not come here to be entertained," he said as he politely refused.
"Then why have you come here?" Williams asked. He could make a rough guess, but he couldn’t be certain. Knowing Nicholas, it could be much more complex.
"Our last conversation," Nicholas leaned back into the seat. He closed his eyes as he sighed. The exhaustion from the round trips getting to him now that he was sort of relaxed. "It didn’t end pleasantly. I want to fix that."
Williams heard him. Saw his lips move and also saw the emotions in his eyes but was still unable to believe what he heard.
"You were right. It is time we put the past to rest and lay down our grudges for hers and his sake," Nicholas continued. "Juliette would be pleased that our feud over her has lasted this long, and it has also affected Alexander in ways that I never wanted."
Williams was completely taken off guard by his word. If he doubted what he heard before then, this... he couldn’t doubt all of these now.
He cleared his throat when he realized that Nicholas was done talking. "I am pleased to hear this but... why the change of heart?" He didn’t want to be the one to ruin the effort, but he couldn’t help. Nucholas’ resolve and determination to keep him out of his life was so firm that this was so unexpected and seemed very fishy.
"We are not getting any younger, Willaims. I don’t want to leave this world one day, knowing my late daughter and living grandson aren’t pleased with me. Knowing that I still have unfinished business here,’ Nicholas admitted, and Williams had to give to him at how honest he was being right now. "So, before Juliette’s memorial, I would like us to come to an understanding."
"I am fine with that. It is all I have ever wanted from you, Nicholas," Williams said. He couldn’t explain what he felt right now, but there was this sudden feeling of lightness as some heavy weight was lifted off his shoulders. It felt really nice. "I am sure Juliette will be pleased to know this and Kayden too."
"Perhaps..." Nicholas agreed.
Silence fell between them, but it was not uncomfortable. Nicjolas had his eyes closed, his head thrown back in a lazy and relaxed manner. His exhaustion was obvious, and it left Williams wondering where he had been or what he’s been up to to have gotten this tired.
"Would prefer a room? It is better than the couch," Willaims offered, and surprisingly, Nicholas nodded, accepting the offer. Williams didn’t know what to make of it, and for a moment, he dazed out.
"I will have it ready immediately," he said after realizing how much time he had spent staring at his supposed father-in-law.
Williams picked the landlines on the desk and made a call. After giving orders for a room to be prepared for Williams and ordering the kitchen to prepare dinner, and as soon as possible, he returned to the couch he sat earlier.
"Kayden has agreed to take over Apex," he said, still sure that Nicholas was yet to fall asleep. And as he had deduced, Nicholas’ eyes opened, but just a little as if to confirm what he heard. "Is that okay with you?"
"He accepted it, Williams. I have no say in that. It was inevitable," Nicholas said with his eyes now closed once again.
"That is true," Williams agreed that it was indeed inevitable that Alex took over Apex. "I’ll let him know you are here." Nicholas only hummed.

At a restaurant in the heart of Amberfell, Jocelyn and Malerie sat face to face with each other. But this time, the roles seemed to have been reversed compared to their previous encounter.
Malerie was happily munching on her meal while Jocelyn glared sharply at her. Having had enough of the silence, Jocelyn clenched her fist as she spoke through gritted teeth.
"You said you will handle her, so what exactly have you been doing, huh?" She asked, trying hard to stop herself from slamming a hand on the table and drawing attention to themselves. "That bi*tch is still out there living a carefree life."
"You sound so desperate now, I wonder what might have happened to our cool and calm Miss Davis?" Malerie said, her tone dripping with feigned concern, but the mockery in her eyes gave it all away. "Did you encounter some difficulties, perhaps?"
Jocelyn gritted her teeth so hard that others could almost hear it.
"Don’t you dare mock me, Malerie. You and I are clearly in the same boat. You are as desperate as I am if not much more," Jocelyne said.b
She had been searching for new jobs but she was never given any. No matter how hard she tried, she was always rejected. Even when she was practically the best candidate amongst the applicants, she was rejected. Why, she didn’t know at first, but now, she did. President Legend must have put a label on her. Branded her so she did not find any other decent jobs in the city or anywhere else, but she even tried some online jobs, but the outcome was the same.
President Legend seemed determined to ruin her life because of that wench.
"Oh..." Malerie gasoed dramatically. "Are we now? I thought I was the only desperate one?"
"Enough with the jokes. I know you have been out job hunting and meeting no fruitful results," Jocelyn said, and the smirk on Malerie’s face vanished, replaced with a glare. "Good. It seems we are on the same page now."
"I have my plans. I am only waiting for a window of opportunity," Malerie said. She pushed away the plates of unfinished food, s8nce she had lost her appetite. "That b*tch does live in an apartment anymore. But in some rich neighborhood. It’s now easy to follow her there, but there was an opportunity this morning."
"What rich neighborhood?" The Sara she knew didn’t live in a rich neighborhood. And she has no rich friends... she paused now realizing that she didn’t even know Sara’s friends are.
"She has friends in high places. The Snows, The Romanovs and even very shady ginger haired. But it’s not them she is with at the moment. So I needed to tread carefully," Malerie said and Jocelyn started to feel uneasy all over again.
"But don’t worry. If she returns alone like she left this morning in her own car, we will be able to get her," Malerie sounded so sure that Jocelyn couldn’t find it in her to believe the woman. "It would.mean she would drive alone to work tomorrow as well. But this is where you come in. I don’t know much about Legend Corp. So you will give the construction to the man I hired."
"Fine, let them call me when they are ready," Jocelyn agreed. Her anger has simmered down but not fully. At least now, there was a glimmer of hope at getting Sara to experience pain.
"I believe we are done here now," Malerie said as she looked around for the waiter. "Waiter..."
