Chapter 64: 64. PROGRESS

Sara woke up the next morning surprised that she didn’t have any haunting dreams. She was right after all, Alex had scared her to sleep and she ... thing of Alex, it was then she registered the hand still draped around her what’s and the warmth underneath her.

’It’s you, isn’t it?’ She asked in her head. Taking a deep, shallow breath, she tried to slip off his embrace without waking him.

"Awake already?" She heard his voice and paused immediately. How long has he been awake?

"Mm...hmm," she nodded and sat up when his hold around her loosened. "Good morning," she said.

Alex watches her and remembers her reaction the first time she woke up in his arms and today there was a stark difference and he couldn’t help the wide smile that made its way out. This was what they called PROGRESS.

She tilted her head not understanding the reason for such a wide grin so early in the morning.

"Beautiful morning, Sweetheart," he took her hand and kissed her knuckles. "Did you sleep well?" Sara blushed but nodded and smiled shyly. "Glad to hear that."

He had noticed that she didn’t stir in her sleep like the previous night and he couldn’t be happier knowing she was already getting better.

"I won’t be home today either, will you be okay?" He asked and she furrowed her brows but remembering he had a conglomerate to run, he couldn’t stay at home.

"I should go too," she said and he raised a brow. "It’s not like that," she said thinking hebmust be having some weird thoughts running through his head. Last night was not at all forgotten.

"It’s not like what? Huh? What do you think I am thinking?" he teased and she glared at him while he let out a hearty chuckle. Tugging the strange strands behind her ear, he cupped her cheek, propping his head on a pillow for comfort, he locked eyes with her. His thumb gently caresses her cheek. "No naughty thoughts this morning okay?" He sounded as though he was talking to a child telling her not to be naughty.

Sara was momentarily rendered speechless as she stared at him.

"What is it? Your reason for wanting to come along," he said, dropping the teasing act before they both regret it. After her display last night, he knew she now knew how much she affected him and if she wanted to do that again now, they may end up in a more awkward situation.

Sara took a deep breath, happy that he steered the conversation back on track.

"I should also return to work. I don’t want to be home while you are working alone. I am your secretary and... and I think it’s only fair," she said without realizing how she easily called his place home or how she sounded like a worried wife.

"I don’t mind. You still need to rest and your appointment with your doctor is today and the psychologist too," he said and she pursed her lips displeased with the turn of events. "How about this, you can come but you can’t miss the doctor’s appointment," he suggested.

Staying at home will bore her half to death and he knew what boredom could cause. Wild thoughts running through a person’s mind was not exactly healthy for someone still recovering from a trauma. Besides that, at the office he could keep an eye on her himself.

Sara’s face brightened up like a child given her favorite candy. "Alright," she readily agreed.

Alex saw her like that and wanted to kiss her but didn’t dare to attempt to. Sara was regaining her bubbly self and he was pleased. He wanted that Sara back. That expressive Sara. Someone who never hesitated to get what she wants or hides her true feelings. But also very confident. Not someone you could easily take advantage of.

"You’re beautiful," the words slipped out without him even realizing but he didn’t regret saying it. He would say it again if needed.

Sara paused as awkwardness settled on her. She fidgeted a bit but managed a shy smile. "I should get ready," she said, trying to dispel the awkwardness that she felt. Leaving the bed, she stopped and looked at him as if realizing something. "My things..."

"Everything you’ll need is in there," he pointed at the closet and then at the table in front of the vanity mirror.

Sara looked at where he pointed and nodded. She didn’t linger and ran into the bathroom.

Alex chuckled, covering a head over his eyes. Knowing she was naked in the bathroom right now stirred something within him. He had to leave the room if he wanted to calm down.

Meanwhile, inside the bathroom, Sara leaned against the door trying to calm her heart. This was the third day in his home, inside his room even and she was already so conformable in as if it has always been hers. It didn’t help when everything around was made to her taste. Just the way she liked it. Now, even without having to tell him, he knew everything that she uses, ranging from her soap to lotion and tonics for skin care. What surprised her the most was the fact they were all new products.

"Focus now, Sara," she muttered to herself, pushing herself off the door and approaching the bathtub.

At a Cafe far from Opulent Oaks, Malerie was seated faced to face with Jocelyn the tension between only seem to grow with every passing second but none was ready to break the silence as if testing who would break first.

"What’s this about now?" Malerie asked, irritated by growing silence. It was stretching far too long and she didn’t like it.

"What do you mean? You called me here," Jocelyn said with an I don’t care attitude that rubbed Malerie the wrong way. "So? Why did you call me here?"

Malerie clenched her fists under the table but managed a deep breath to rein in her anger and frustration. "Sara Ambrose. She is the reason I called you here," Malerie said as if it was the first time she was talking about Sara to Jocelyn who raised a dramatic brow in shock.

"Mmm–hmm. What about here," she said, taking a sip of her latte. Malerie glared at her, if she was a snake she would spit out venom right now and Jocelyn enjoyed every moment of her irritation. "I told you what you should know already, so why call me out here like we’re best buddies?"

"Sara’s the one who said ’the enemy of my enemy is my friend," Malerie retorted and Jocelyn smiled.

"What do you want to know this time around? There isn’t much to tell about her at this point. She is a nobody and all she has is her brains, nothing more," Jocelyn said, deciding to be serious.

"She isn’t at her appeasement. They can’t find her anywhere. Did you lie to me?" Amlerie asked. She saw the subtle change in Jocelyn’s expression and knew she may have no idea about her whereabouts.

"Send people to the office of Legend Corp. She should be there. Tail her and lno where she goes after work. I don’t have to write down everything in detail for you to do I?"She said with sarcasm in her tone that only further irked Malerie.

"If you are so good at it, why don’t you do something about it yourself?" Malerie couldn’t take much of the woman’s annoying attitude for much longer.

"Because I don’t have to. There is a jealous mistress who can fish out enough to sponsor my cause, why lift a finger of my own?" she smirked and saw Malerie’s expression darkened to something dangerous but she maintained her smile. "Anyway, it’s still early and I should still be in bed since I have no job to rush to. I would like to go back and sleep some more. You should too. You look like you didn’t sleep at all last night," Jocelyn rose to her feet while Malerie seethed in evident anger.

"If this fails because of you..." Malerie said in an attempt to threaten Jocelyn but when Jocelyn raised a brow at her she bit her tongue.

"Have a nice day, Miss...." She could not reber Malerie’s last name but she just casually brushed it off. "Let me know when there is a problem that would require actual assistance."

She left and Malerie felt like flipping the table but she didn’t. That would draw too much attention. Instead of taking out her anger on an inanimate object, she would deal with the woman herself when the time comes. For now, it was Sara.
