Chapter 65: 65.

As Sara and Alex walked into the office of Legend Corp. All eyes turned to them. Although there was much they would have said. They knew better than to get themselves into trouble. Alex’s past warning still lingered fresh in the minds.

The staff greeted one after the other and Alex replied with a nod or a half smile as they walked past them.

Once they were in the elevator, low murmurs erupted as they asked amongst themselves where Sara had been.

"It’s understandable that President Legend didn’t come to the office yesterday but what about her?" one of the women at the reception desk and those around who heard turned to look, silently agreeing with her question.

"Who knows, maybe Jocelyn was right after all. She is sleeping with the president," another employee chimed in.

"Who would have thought she was such a whore. No wonder she canceled her engagement. She had her eyes on a bigger fish," the second receptionist said.

As they continued to discuss they failed to notice Kai walking in and he frowned at what he heard. He stopped right at the center watching and listening until someone suddenly gasped drawing the attention of everyone else. It was then that he noticed his presence.

His cold expression silences everyone even without him having to utter a word. Unable to meet his gaze or even look at each other, they either pretended to work or stared down at the floor in shame. They knew this wouldn’t be forgiven easily.

"I see you all have very little to do. Otherwise you wouldn’t have clustered up and gossiping so early in the morning," his voice was cold as he addressed them. No one dared to speak even though they so desperately wanted to defend themselves.

"Legend Corp. does not permit acts such as gossip during work hours. You have been here long enough to know this yet you still loiter around to gossip over something that should not concern you," they were still quiet as he spoke. Kai sighed inwardly and took a step forward as if he was about to leave and many of them held their breaths with fingers crossed but he stopped abruptly shattering the little hope they were starting to have.

"You each get a strike for this," he announced and many of their shoulders dropped at the news.

Kai wanted to feel bad for them but they brought it upon themselves. They were lucky it was Alex himself who had overheard their little gossip. All they got today was a strike but many would have lost their jobs had Alex been involved. He couldn’t even pity those that would be dismissed because it was their last strike. They should have considered that before getting involved.

He turned around and walked away and then returned to their desks, sharing eye contact with each other. One of them began packing her stuff ready to leave after receiving the email which she knew without a doubt would come.

"It’s sad that you have to leave, Maggie," a girl seated beside her said but she didn’t reply which had her focusing back on her work.

Inside the president’s office, Alex had Sara sitting on the sofa in the office as he refused to let him out of his sight. She didn’t argue and just did as he said while he made arrangements for her desk to be brought inside so she could feel more comfortable.

"Are you sure you don’t want to share my desk?" He asked and she looked at him without saying a word but her eyes already answered the question. "Fine," he said.

When Kai walked in, he paused upon seeing Sara seated on the sofa with Alex squatting in front of her. He took a moment to decide whether to interrupt them or leave and come back later.

He knocked gently on the door to draw their attention. Once they turned to look at him, he took his steps towards them. "Miss Ambrose," he greeted with a gentleman bow. "How are you doing today?" he asked. His eyes assessed her and felt relieved that she looked much better than when he saw her that night.

"I am much better now, Mr Wilson," Sara replied, realizing he knew about her condition as well. What surprised her was the look of genuine concern in his eyes.

"That is a relief–"

"When is the doctor coming?" Alex interrupted Kai’s displeasure but he decided to give him some face knowing he was worried about his woman.

"They’ll be here in a few minutes, Boss," he replied, causing a frown to appear on Sara’s face.

"What do you mean? And...they?" She asked. She was supposed to go to him when it was time but now she is hearing that the doctor was coming to her and not one.

"Yes, they. You doctor and the psychologist. They will come here to check on you. You can decide whether to keep the therapy yourself and schedule your next appointment," Alex explained.

Sara just nodded her head. She didn’t know the doctor who attended to her before but she was still surprised that he agreed to come here just to see her. "Okay," she said, deciding that the next appointment would be at the hospital.

"Make the necessary preparations," Alex said to Kai who didn’t need to be told twice.

At Atlas University,

Olivia walked through the school with a huge scowl on her face hating the fact that she had to take a cab to school and walk in like those she always looked down upon. It was even a miracle that she was still able to pay for a cab because her grandfather confiscated even her allowance.

"Since you can’t afford the fine, then your punishment will be different," he had said and she didn’t know what he meant until this morning.

As everyone’s eyes gazed at her walking into school, she wished the ground would open and swallow her. Their not so low whispers didn’t help her feel any better either.

"Isn’t that Olivia?" Someone asked and she turned to glare at the person only to be glared back at and she cowered.

"Yeah. We have to pay for something that we were never responsible for," the beside the first one replied. The anger in their voices was enough to make her heart grow weak and feet heavy.

"Looks like she was also punished. I guess Mr Crawford didn’t pick favorites after all. He meant what he said," a boy whom Olivia could barely recognize but remembered that they shared a class or two together said with a smirk on his lips.

"At least he is fair," his partner replied and they laughed when she walked past them.

She could see her three friends up ahead but they didn’t look pleased to see her. The glares they threw at her had her stopping girl a second to contemplate on whether to approach them or leave for the meantime. But that decision was made for her when she saw them walking in her direction.

Olivia didn’t know whether to be happy or scared. They looked angry but they still came to her. Would they make fun of her Just as everyone else was doing? She didn’t know but she braced herself for the worst.

"..."

They stopped in front of her but no one said a thing. They just looked at her, taking in her appearance and then looked behind her.

"Charlotte..." Olivia caller wanted to be the first to break the silence. She understood their anger. It was her family that had made pay money they shouldn’t have and she would too if was in their position.

"Where is your driver?" Stacy asked Looking behind her even though they had clearly seen Oliva walk inside after leaving a taxi.

Olivia pursed her lips feeling embarrassed. She couldn’t tell whether Stacy was being concerned or just mocking her. Her tone was so neutral it was impossible to tell the difference.

"Grandfather, wouldn’t allow him to take me here for a week," she said, feeling a new surge of anger rising in her. Her fist clenched at her side, while the hand that held the bag grew tighter.

"Such a shame," Charlotte said, a sad expression adorning her face. "Oh, well, Mr Crawford stayed true to his words.

Olivia’s heart sank. She didn’t sound remorseful at all and that scared Olivia thinking she would lose her friends

"At least it’s only for a week. You’ll be back to being the young lady of the Crawfords soon. Then you can make it up to us. We have suffered unjustly," Maddie, the third girl said and Stacy and Charlotte agreed.
