Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 58. Kai’s delima
Chapter 58: 58. Kai’s delima
Although the sun was yet to set, here, in the underground cells holding the captives, it was dark and cold. Freezing even. The hallways were dimly lit, and the cold from within the cells sipped pleading around the hallway.
Within the cells, one is two people, which could be seen either crouching on the floor, hugging themselves, and attempting to keep themselves warm from the biting cold or strapped against a chair awaiting interrogation
Alex moved within the hallways, his expression as cold as the temperature around them and his eyes even like so. His jaws hardened as he remembered the way Sara shivered in his hands. The state he found her in when he escorted Jessa to her. His fists clenched at his sides, and his teeth gritted as he tried to rein his anger.
Beside him was Max, whose expression displayed much anticipation. Had Alex not been right there, he would have been skipping to the cells holding the prisoners from last night like a happy little girl. Those behind them could imagine this already.
The silence between them was thick and the air tense, but no one dared to make a sound, not even to cough. But the beeping sound of a phone erupted the silence temporarily stilling everything around them. Alex’s foot halted as he glanced at Max who had an apologetic expression on his face.
Looking down at the phone that had just received the notification, it was Alex’s. He felt like a heavy weight had been lifted off his shoulders as he gave the phone back to its owner.
"It’s yours, Boss," he said. The crease between Alex’s brows deepened but he took the phone. Seeing the message displayed on the screen and its sender, he tossed the phone back to Max.
"Don’t give it to me again unless it’s something important," he said and resumed walking. He clicked his tongue in irritation leaving Max puzzled. Curious, he raised the phone. The screen was still lit and the message he had opened still displayed.
"Kai?!" He was surprised to see that his boss had casually ignored s message from the man and he gave into temptation and read through the message.
KAI: "When you get there, don’t over do it. Or better yet, wait till I come. I am on my way."
Max shook his head and put the phone aside. Like Alex would be waiting for anyone to do something or as if he would over worry about over doing something. Max thought.
"Here we are," Max said and walked ahead of Alex. He pulled out a key from his pants pocket ready to open it on command.
Alex stopped beside Max, his eyes staring at the four men inside. He couldn’t be more pleased than seeing them like this now and then also at the fact that he had this place prepared on time. Keeping them would have been a hassle.
"Open it," he ordered.
Max didn’t need to be told twice as he quickly and happily unlocked the bars . He stepped inside furst and Alex followed and after them were the two bodyguards behind them.

Meanwhile, at Legend Corp. Kai rushed out of the president’s elevator with hurried steps. He ignored most of the staff as he headed for his car which was parked beside where Alex’s was always parked.
He was determined to catch up to Alex before things went too far. He knew the prisoners would die and he didn’t feel anything after imagining their deaths, but he was concerned for the man himself. He couldn’t lose himself to it.
As he drove, he cursed at every traffic light that turned red on the way.
"Have there always been so many traffic lights on the road?" Kai wondered. It was as if these lights were set on making him reach there late, turning red the moment he got there and whenever he intended on braking traffic, another car would appear in front of him making it impossible to drive ahead while the lights were on.
Irritation mounted over Kai’s countenance but there was nothing that he could do about it other than to curse and murmur. He let out a disgruntled sound as he stepped on the pedal again and began moving but the truck in front of him broke down right in the middle of the road causing a traffic jam.
"Oh... come on!" he exclaimed, throwing his hands in the air. Was a torturous day at work not enough? Kai felt that at the current pace, he would do a little better going on foot. But thinking about the distance alone and the strain it would have on his body, not to mention the fact he wouldn’t get there even after nightfall, he sat back in the car while searching through the map to find other routes that he could take.
After a long search. He found one that was relatively close and it had hom wondering how and why he didn’t see it earlier. Were his eyes also failing him now?
Pushing the thoughts aside, he drove but still didn’t get far wgen he noticed the empty fuel tank. He could go any further without having refilled but there were no fuel stations nearby. "I want to say you are responsibility this Alex. But I don’t want to give you credit for something you didn’t do," Kai muttered to himself. Dislike. Irriattionas well as annoying all in his voice and his body suddenly felt heavy.
Luck was against him and nature determined to stop him from getting to Alex in time. He would have trusted Max to stop Alex if he was over doing it but that man was a sadist in his own rights. He wouldn’t think of stopping anyone, especially not Alex.
"Oh.. well. I bet find mind myself a fuel station first. Better late than never," he said to himself and started the car only to lark it at the side if the road. He’ll have to go and buy the fuel and come back for it.
