Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 45. Unpleasant memories

Chapter 45: 45. Unpleasant memories

She knew guns were loud but this was more than anything. The sound along with the tense atmosphere and the dread just made the sound of the gun seem to amplify a thought and tomes sending another wave of gear through her. The knowledge that he must have shot at Alex who had come to rescue her from this.

Her body trembled as the strength started to leave her.

He fired again and she screamed,

STOP!!" Tears broke loose as she struggled to break free from his hold. "Don’t, Please..."

Her sudden outburst seemed to have startled them as even Ace turned to look at her, stunned. Jack’s hold on her went loose but only for a second as he regained his composure.

But the little moment of lost focus was all it took for a counter attack. A bullet was fired from whoever Ace had been trying to get and he dropped to the ground, falling backwards with a hole on his head. His blank eyes met hers and her heart nearly dropped to her stomach.

Sara would have jumped back had there been a man’s weight on her, keeping her in place. Instead, a hand quickly shot to her mouth covering it to prevent a scream of pure terror even closing her eyes as if that would make her unsee what she had seen.

Jack was so infuriatd that his body trembled, now regretting not killing the little woman long ago and left the place. Just who the hell had she called and when?

"Listen up," he pressed the nuzzle of the gun more on her head as he spoke. "You are going to tell whoever he is to leave if you don’t want to die," saying that, he placed his finger on the trigger and she knew he was more than serious this time. "Understood?"

Sara nodded vigorously, knowing she couldn’t do or say anything that opposed him.

Deliberately slow ans steady footsteps were heard approaching the room and with each step, Sara’s heary skipped a beat and Jack’s hand pressed the nuzzle further thay she feared it would bite a hole on the side of her head even with pulling the trigger but her eyes remained strained at the door praying to any God that it should be Alex and who ever they were shooting at it was also alright.

As the door was pushed opened from the other side, Jack stepped back taking Sara with him, insictively pointed the gun at the man who had just appeared before returning it to Sara’s head as he threatened, "Stand back if you don’t want her to die," but the man’s eyes were on Sara.

Sara stared at him, her heartbeat calming slowly. She was both received and worried as well as fearful.

Alex dared at her, his eyes trailing down to the cut on her lips and the palm print on her cheek, the fear in her eyes and how her hand desperately clung to the arm that held her in a futile attempt to pry it off of her. His gaze darkened in a silent rage that threatened to consume him.

The woman he had loved so much was manhandled like this? Not only did uttered a bunch of disgusting words to her earlier, they also had the guts to lay their hands on her.

"Did you hear me?" Jack said when the man didn’t make a move at all but just stared at the woman. He was right to have kept her alive after all.

"Alex..." Sara called and looked at him, her eyes literally begging him.

Alex still said nothing and didn’t move an inch. His rage is only visible in his eyes. Seeing the man holding her hostage pressing the nuzzle more onto her head causing the skin on that part to turn redder, he raised his gun and fired without a second thought.

Before Sara made a sound, she felt the hand holding her go loose and the gun slipping off the fingers of the man. And then there was a loud thud.

"AARHH!" She screamed, jumping away from the body and then quickly stepping aside once her eyes came in contact with the body of Ace.

Alex finally rushed to her side, first placing a hand over her eyes before pulling her in ans wrapped his arms around her in an embrace. He knew her scream was an after of the shock she must have received.

"It’s alright now," he whispered reassuringly. Her body was still trembling and he was starting to regret shooting so suddenly.he didn’t mean to scare her. But then warning her would also warn the enemy. "You are safe now," he whispered while stroking her back soothingly.

Sara was still shaking and couldn’t get the sight of those blank eyes off her mind. It was haunting her and she couldn’t bring herself to relax. But her hands held tightly to him as if if her grip was a little less tight, he would slip away and leave her there.

"Alex...I..." she couldn’t form complete words.

"It’s alright now," he said in an understanding tone. "Trust me and let me take you away from here."

Hearing Hon say he would take her away, she nodded her head, wanting to be far away from the dead bodies as much as possible. They were revoking memories she didn’t want to remember. Memories long buried and forgotten. She needed to be far away from them.

She raised her head and looked at him as if to confirm that he would truly take her away.

"I’ll take you far from here, right now," he said, understanding her unspoken words.

Hearing his reassurance, Sara allowed herself to relax and in that instant, she lost consciousness as darkness consumed her and Alex quickly picked her off the floor.

"Everyone has been taken care of, sir," Max appeared behind him and stood with a respectful stance, but his eyes curiously tried to make out the woman in his boss’ hands but he could catch a glimpse of her face.

"Good," he said and strode out of the room. "Clean up the mess in there," and with that, he was gone.
