Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 44. Will you talk or die?
Chapter 44: 44. Will you talk or die?
Everything around her froze as soon as those words left the man’s lips. All her hopes of getting it easy were so quickly flushed down the drain. Sara wondered what she had done to the said woman to hate her to the point of wishing her demise.
"Heard, pretty little lady?" said the bulky man with a sadistic smile. The way her face paled and twisted brought him delight. He squatted to her level and said, "I don’t know what you did to that woman, but it is quite unfortunate," he reached out his hand to grab her hair but she evaded it.
Sara looked for anything that could serve as a weapon, even if it wouldn’t do much harm. But she couldn’t find anything, and she cursed at herself for being so orderly.
"What do you have to say, little lady?" He didn’t mind that she evaded his touch and rather looked her up and down, and a newfound interest surfaced as his eyes glimmered with something dark and dangerous; it sent a shiver down her spine.
"...I did nothing to whoever sent you. I don’t even know who she is," she ulternated her gaze between the Gian man in front of her and the door.
A low chuckled rumbled through his chest, his smile widening. "But she seems to know very well," he drew closer, and she stood up immediately and retreated backward.
"What are you, Jack? We didn’t come here to play with her. We have a job to do," the other seemed to have had enough of the delay, said, his tone laced with irritation and eyes glaring at his companion’s back.
"What’s the rush? We have the whole night to play," Jack replied.
Although Sara didn’t like the way they spoke, about her, like she was some object that they could play with and discard or as something totally insignificant, she hoped they would keep talking until Alex arrived. She didn’t know what he would do, but it would certainly be much better having him around.
She didn’t know if he could still hear them since she left the phone inside the closet so they didn’t suspect anything.
"How about we make a deal?" Sara proposed, and they both raised a brow at her.
"Do you have any idea what you just said?" Jack asked, visibly amused by her words. Her little attempt to negotiate was amusing.
"I am serious. Name your price, and I’ll you’ll get it," Sara said, sounding as serious as she could be. Her as tone and expression firm, but they couldn’t find it hilarious.
"You truly do not know who she is, do you?" Jack shook his head as he rose to his feet.
"Can you fish out a million right now if you wre ask?" The smaller man asked with a raised brow. He was starting to understand why Jack wanted to play with her a little. She was beautiful but seemed to lack brains.
"Not me, but I can make some calls and have it available immediately," As she spoke, she could hear cars parking outside. They must have too as they turned to look at each other. But they didn’t think much about it, assuming they could be her neighbors. "Just nake your price, and you’ll have it," she pressed again.
They looked at each other once again but laughed.
"What if we want you?" Jack asked and lucked his lips in a motion that he must assume to be seductive, but it only made Sara want to throw up. "Backing out now?" He approached her, and so did the other guy whose name she had she didn’t care enough to remember.
"Anything but that," Sara said, glancing at the door inwardly praying the cars they heard belong to Alex.
"But that’s what we want. You," he stopped in front of her and Ace by her side. They looked at her lasciviously. "What are you...?" He trailed off when the phone in his oants pocket vibrated. He frowned as he reached for it. It was a warning message from those that they left outside and his gaze hardened.
He looked up at Sara, the lustful gaze from earlier had completely vanished, replacing the killing intent that sent chill through her body as the sense of dread enveloped her. And before she could deccern what was happening, a harsh slap landed on her cheek and he barged angrily at her but she couldn’t hear a word that he said due to the after effect of the unexpected slap.
The slap was so strong it split the side of her lip, and blood trailed down to her jaw. A palm visibly imprinted on her cheek could.
"Who do you call?" Jack angrily yelled and even pulled her by the hair despite her already bleeding from her lips. His sudden outburst took Ace off guard, but he was quick to realize that something was wrong. "Answer me, you little whore," he urged again but she could only wince at the force with which he pulled her and gripped her arm. It was as if he wanted to sever her arm from her body.
He dragged her towards the door with large strides and she stumbled trying to keep up with him and maintain her balance.
Ace was already at the door, listening for any footsteps.
"Answer me, did you call the police?" He asked although he highly doubted that was it. The police would go around taking out his men permanently. This was something else.
Sara pressed her lips together, and when he saw her silent defiance, his grip on her arm grew stronger, and his gaze colder. He didn’t know what he was dealing with, and this woman might prove useful if kept alive. Otherwise, he would have killed her the moment he saw the warning from his men.
"They’ve breached the front door, Jack. What now?" Ace said, turning and glaring at Sara who was still in visible pain.
"Kill anyone you see," Jack instructed. He pulled out a gun and pointed it at Sara, going behind her and a hand around her neck with the gun pointed at her head.
"Will you talk now or die?" He asked and Sara gulped.
Right after his question, Ace fired and she gulped as dread washed over her. Her mind went blank as she thought of who thay could be.
