Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 133. Obsession

Chapter 133: 133. Obsession

Meanwhile, at Jessa’s apartment, she stared at the last screen of her phone with the photo of Sara and Alex holing each other. Her brows pulled together in a frown, still finding g it hard to believe that Alex had even a part of Sara’s life even longer than she had been. But then...

"What happened?" She muttered. Sara never spoke of him. Not even I ce by accident. Even when Alex returned, she didn’t seem to know him.

But that wasn’t the case for Alex. Jessa has suspected his reason behind moving Sara from the PR to his assistant the moment he returned and discovered that she worked for his company, but she never thought of this ever.

"What in the world is going on?" she asked but couldn’t provide an answer, and there was no one else to do so either. Seeing this photo had given rise to many more unanswered questions, and she knew just who to ask, and that was Sara herself, but her line was unreachable.

Jessa almost thought she had intentionally turned off her phone just to avoid them, but she was doubtful about that. Sara wasn’t like that. Saving the picture to her phone’s gallery, she switched to her contact list as she once again called Bernice, who she was certain was already expecting her call.

"Took ya long enough," Bernice said, picking up immediately the called and went through.

Jessa sighed inwardly, knowing she had expected nothing less. But it still surprised her how predictable Bernice has become. "Were you just waiting for my call?" She asked.

"Who knows? Maybe I was, maybe I jusy coincidentally had my phone in hand when you called. Who knows for certain?" Bernice uttered, and Jessa rolled her eyes.

"You’ve seen it too, right?" Jessa went straight to the point. There was a little paus on the other side before Bernice hummed a reply. "Any thoughts on it?"

"There are onmy two possibilities that I can think of at the moment and I beleive you must have already thought about them too," silence followed her words and with every passing second thay Jessa didn’t reply, it confirmed Bernice’s suspicion. "it is either Sara lied about everything, pretending to not know Mr Legend and kept it all hidden from you and the girls all along..."

"Sara is nit like that. So that has already been ruled out of the options," Jessa said even before Bernice could finish speaking.

Bernice clicked her tongue, but other than that, she didn’t comment on the matter.

"That’s why there’d a second possibility," she said after Jessa had calmed down. "and that would be that she truly didn’t know. I meant she doesn’t remember the time that they knew each other. In this case, she never lied but would rather be as confused and clueless as you are at the moment."

Jessa already thought about that possibility, but she still found it odd and hard to believe. "Is there a way to get our hand on her medical reports?" I don’t want to do anything that ciuod cause her harm later on." Jessa said.

"You know, you care and concern for her is quite... mm what’s the word again? Right, questionable. I think that’s the word," Bernive said, and Jessa’s frown deepened.

"What do you mean by that?" Jesaa asked, feeling both wronged and bashful.

"You care for her more than she cares for herself, Jess. Even now, you are worried that you would do something that could harm her, and so you want her medical reports. Perhaps I should charge you for my services so you would know what I am talking about," Bernice said.

Was her frienshio with Sara a questionable one? Jessa didn’t think so. She protected those she loved, friend or family. As ling she cared, she took care of them. Sara was no different. She was her best friend. "Bernice?" Jessa called.

"Do you agree to my charges?" She asked.

"Is this jealousy speaking or what?" Jessa asked. She couldn’t think of a better reason why Bernice would suddenly bring up something like that.

"I am not jealous but concerned. You seem a little—obsessed. Sara is no longer just an Ambrose but a Goldman, too. She is more than capable of taking care of herself. I understand that you are worried about your best friend but you can’t overdo it. That’s her husband’s job to do." Bernice replied.

Jessa massaged her temples. She was not in the mood for and not at a time like this. "Fine,’ she said.

"You won’t be obsessed anymore?" Bernice said, sounding rather happy.

"I will pay you according to your demands. Every task will have its paymen. Is that all right?" Jessa asked.

Bernice frowned, not very happy that everything she had just said went into deaf ears. "Fine," she said after releasing a deep sigh. "This will cost a hundred thousand."

Jesa frowned but didn’t comment. "I will be looking into her hospital records unauthorized. What I’m charging is reasonable," Bernice added.

"All right. Hundred thousand it is," Jessa relented. She could imagine Bernice smirking now, but she didn’t care. She just wanted to know. If Sara indeed had amnesia, she wants t9 know the cause of it and when. Then, she would investigate the relationship between Alex and Sara in the past. There were many unanswered questions, and she wanted all the answers.

"Looks like I’ll be getting rich soon," Bernice uttered in a lively tone. While Jessa rolled her eyes and disconnected the call.

"Why are sudden surrounded by Mystries, Sara?" Jessa said to herself. Her eyes one again glued to the image displayed on her phone. Sara looked genuinely happy to from the angle of the shot, Sara was the one holding the camera while leaning on Alex. He looked indulgently at her, with a subtle smile on his lips.

"If you were that close, then why did break up?" She wandered aloud. "Why did it take him so long to return?"

Dane stared at his phone. Although his expression was blank, his gaze hardened, staring sharply at the photo that had caused a sensation on social media.

Learning I’d Alex and Sara’s relationship in the past was a shock that he was not prepared for. He had thought Alex k ew of his engagement with the Goldmans and Sara being the one who was engaged to him and decided to marry her just to spite him, but this right here was entirely different.

There was no way Alex would have know along which meant that he married his childhood sweetheart.

But it still irked him nonetheless. Seeing how possessively aaled hand rested on her waist pushed buttons that it normally wouldn’t have.

"Young Master," Heath walked in. His head bowed, and his eyes cast downward.

Dane looked at him but didn’t say a word.

Feeling his gaze on him, Heath resumed speaking. "The old master called again. He wants you to return immediately. He says he doesn’t see any reason left for you to prolong your sta here anymore," he swallowed hard after saying that.

"I know," he finally spoke, but his he still never said he was ready to leave. He then shifted his gaze to the window, staring into the distance. Many tboughts crossed his mind, but none provided the needed answers. All were nothing but more questions left unanswered.

"Sir," Heath called again but paused as he contemplated telling him or leaving out the infraction. Heath turned his gave and looked at him briefly. But that was enough to give him the needed answer. "Miss Amber and Kyle want an audience with you."

Dane looked at him, a bit taken off guard by the information. But he was quick to compose himself and ask, "And Dave Dillon?"

Heath shook his head. "Mr Dylan wasn’t included, air," he replied.

Dane’s expression fell at that, but he still nodded his head. "Let them. I want to hear what they want to talk about," he said, and Heath, although puzzled and surprised that he ranted their request, bowed his head.

"Understood sir,’ he said before turning to leave.

"Heath," Dane called, stopping him from advancing further. "The next time my father calls, tell him to call me direcy. I want to hear whatever he would say directly from him," he instructed.

Heath blinked, not sure why he was given such an order, but he nodded his head. "Yes sir,’ he said. Waiting for a few seconds should in case Dane had other instructions, but when none came, he thought it was safe to leave. "I will take my now then."

Dane only nodded his head and hummed softly. Once left alone, his mind drifted to the past. He couldn’t say Dave’s refusal to talk with him didn’t hurt. It did, even more than it would have had Kyle been the one.
