Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 132. She loved me

Chapter 132: 132. She loved me

Moments later,

"How is she?" Alex eagerly asked Dr Walter once he was done examining Sara. Only he knew that he nearly got a heart attack from having her fainting just like that. Was it wrong of him to let her see the picture of them together? Or was there something else? Alex couldn’t help questioning himself.

"She is alright, but it will take some time before she wakes up," he paused, thinking whether he should or shouldn’t ask. He looked up at Alex, who wasn’t even looking at him. His brows were pulled together. His worried and concerned eyes locked on his wife on the bed. "She must have tried to remember something, and that led to her fainting."

Alex’s frown deepened. The picture did trigger something after all. He thought. "Will she be alright?" He asked.

"Physically, yes. She will be fine. But we will have to wait until she wakes up for further examination. There’s very little I can do with the limited resources and equipment available here," Dr Walter answered.

Alex nodded his head all the while, fighting to keep his cool. Right now, there are two possibilities. One word and the other was something he didn’t want to imagine.

"I believe you were advised not to force her memory. What happened?" Dr Walter asked. He faced Alex squarely and saw the self blame in his eyes.

"I didn’t. But something triggered it," he replied, but Water needed more explanation than that. "A picture," Alex replied. He blamed himself for it and wished he could change things, but that was too late now.

Hearing that, Dr. Walter nodded in understanding. "I will inform Dr. Anders. As her psychologist, he should know," he said, and Alex nodded.

As soon as Dr. Walter stepped out of the room, the others walked inside. All of them worried as they feared for the worse.

"She will be fine," Alex said before anyone could ask. It was already written all over their faces. He walked to sit by the edge of the bed, and his eyes locked Sara’s face. Even though he had told them that she was fine, he wasn’t at ease. He wouldn’t be until she opened her eyes and looked at him again.

"What happened to her?" Amber asked. She drew closer to the bed and looked at Sara. She was fine just minutes before they all saw Dr. Walter walked in, and Alex panicked.

"Something triggered her condition. Right now. We can only wait for her to wake up before we can be certain of anything," Alex explained, and they nodded.

"Don’t beat yourself up too much. Something like this is quite common amongst people with amnesia. What we don’t know is if it’s permanent or just temporal," Kyle said as he made himself comfortable on the sofa.

"You said it yourself. She will be fine. Just calm down and relax a bit," Dave said, but Alex didn’t reply to any of them. "She might wake up with all her memories returned to her. I mean she did remember a few since tye last ordeal." Dave added but Alex still didn’t ease up.

His focus was on his wife lying on the bed, her eyes still shut, and every second that passed by only added to his fear.

Standing by the door was Olivia, who found it hard to believe that Sara was suffering from partial amnesia. The Sara she knew didn’t seem like someone who had forgotten anything, or maybe it was because she wasn’t close enough to know that much about her.

While the tension at Opulence Oaks thickened, the world outside was thrown into a frenzy as Alex’s post went viral. The photo of their younger selves had been shared so many times that by now, almost every soul within the city of Amberfell would have known of its existence already.

Among these people were Adam, Chris, and Julius. They stared at the image, unsure of what their reaction should be. How come they never knew that Sara and Alex had dated before? The photo wasn’t that old because Sara was still in her teens. Their eyes instinctively found Adam whose gaze and expression were as complicated as their own.

"Adam..." Chris called, but he was unintentionally interrupted by Adam, who chuckled. It started softly but then grew into a full-blown laughter that drew attention to them.

"Sara and Alexander fooled me," he said, and he believed those very words. His eyes darkened as he repeated, "They fooled me."

Julius looked at his brother, hoping he would have a solution, but Chris had the same expression that he did. He was lost and confused.

"Do you believe it now?" Adam asked. His fist on top of the table clenched tightly, and his lips quivered as anger threatened to consume him. "She dated him for only God knows how long. Yet, nobody knew about it. She got engaged to me and continued to pretend to care about me. And once she was done with me, she walked out, and he came out of nowhere and married her. In the process, it ruined my life."

Adam laughed again this time, pulling on his own hair. By the time he was done, he picked up a glass with strong whisky and dawned all of it and emptied it into his mouth but it didn’t seem enough and he grabbed the bottle.

"First she left me and then she married Alexander. Then it was revealed that she was a Goldman by blood and that it’s sole heir. And now what? Her relationship with Alex in the past is also made public and you all think this is a coincidence?" Adam said before popping the cover and drinking directly from the bottle.

"Even that slut, Malerie had the guts to leave me too. When I am at my worst, they all leave me. When I have it all they stay. I won’t even be surprised if you would leave and go join Alex too. After all everyone else is—"

"Adam," Julius called no longer to get bear to hear him talk like that. They had already drawn too much attention to themselves and his words now were just belittling them. "That is enough Adam. You’ve been drinking a lot lately and it’s not good for your health."

"You say that like you care," Adam spat. When they reached for the bottle. He withdrew his hand.

"Maybe we don’t care. But we do care about our reputation and you are ruining it. Stop drinking before you end up in the hospital. You will only make more headlines if that happens and it won’t be in a positive light," Chris said and Adam snorted.

They both sighed. Why were they the ones left to take care of him now again? Right, they were his friends and they couldn’t abandon him when he was like this. Had they told him to stop cheating back then? Yes. A lot more than they could count. But did he listen? No. He never did. He only did as he pleased and now everything has fallen apart. In his denial, he blames everyone. In his pain and heartbreak, he suspects everyone too.

"Tell us something, Adam, do you regret losing Sara at all or are you just mad at the fact that the man she is married to now is your little uncle?" Julius asked.

Adam didn’t reply. He just stared at them as if they had grown an extra head.

"Did you ever love her? Or was she just a means to help you secure your family’s fortune?" Chris tried another approach.

It was wrong of them to ask him this while he was drunk but it was the only way to get a sincere answer from him. And talking about his feelings might just help him hit the realization that they needed him to.

"She loved me. She said she loved me," Came Adam’s reply. He smiled subtly as if reminiscing pleasant past memories. "Did you know she told me how much she loved me many times?" He asked, looking at the siblings.

They nodded their heads without speaking. Hopefully, he will get to where they wanted him to.

"I tried to love her," he said again. He took another big gulp of the whisky and emptied the bottle. "I wanted to love her but I couldn’t," a tear trickled down his left eye as his shoulders shook. "I thought I loved her before," he paused due to a cough.

"Does it make sense? I wanted to marry her even though I wasn’t sure of my feelings and..." he sighed tiredly. "It doesn’t matter any more now, does it?" He asked.

The both shook their heads and he laughed.

"I regret losing her though. Alexander wouldn’t have had the chance to marry her if I had. And grandfather wouldn’t have given everything to him. I still blame Alex and I hate him for that. I hate Sara too."

Chris and Julius just listened to him vent without interrupting him. Adam will most likely not remember this by once the alcohol was out of his system but for now, it might provide some sort of solace to vent like this.
