Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 129. Bad luck
Chapter 129: 129. Bad luck
"Where is your daughter, woman?" Dominic asked. His expression mirrored his frustration and anger. First, it was Adam making a fool of himself in the presence of many influential people, and now, it was his daughter who had just disappeared without a trace.
Just how much more trouble were they planning on stirring before they were satisfied?
"She was here this morning. She must have just stepped out for reasons unknown to us," Lily said, but the unease that she felt didn’t allow her to believe that. She doubted even her own words, and it scared her.
"Tell me whether you believe that yourself," Dominic hissed as he walked past her. He could ignore it because he was a grown man, but Olivia was still a minor, a child under his care. Losing her was unimaginable.
Dialing a number on his phone, he ordered after it was answered, "Find my daughter and report back to me at once. If she is in any danger, do what’s necessary and bring her back to me," he said and heard an affirmation from the one he was talking to before disconnecting the call. He then turned to face Lily, "if she does anything stupid, she will be disciplined accordingly."
Lily wanted to speak, but he refrained herself. Dominic was mad. Everything has been falling apart lately. Olivia’s sudden disappearance was a big cause for concern, and that has only added to his worry as her father and further served to provoke him further.
If Olivia left on her own, she would be disciples, but if she was taken from within the household, Dominic was willing to do anything to get her back.
"I don’t want to imagine the worst happening, so I am hoping she left the house on her own accord and will return once satisfied. You know how our daughter is. She is very much aware of what’s going on, and it must have gotten to her as well. Let’s give her some time and try not to be so harsh on her, please." Lily pleaded, her hands placed on Dominic’s arm.
"..." Dominic didn’t speak. He just gave some thought to her words but didn’t react either. She was right, and as Lily’s mother, she was bound to understand the child’s emotion better, but he just couldn’t help that Olivia was doing something she shouldn’t or something was happening to her.
"The search will proceed, we will discuss further on this once we have her location and what she is doing," Dominic said, and Lily nodded.
"Thank you," she said but still couldn’t help feeling pained. Was she so bad a mother to her children that they couldn’t share their troubles with her? She was indulgent and pampered her children, especially Olivia, as the younger girl. So where did she go wrong?
"Father is probably waiting for us. Come let us go now before he also gets angry," Dominic said, calming himself before walking for the door.
Once seated at the dining table, the empty seat of Olivia didn’t go unnoticed, but they wished that Williams would ask because they didn’t have any explanation why she was not seated with them.
"I received a call from Kayden today, he wanted me to inform you that Olivia was seen at his place this morning," Williams said and the couple frowned "...in case you were worried and looking for her," he added.
Why on earth was she at his place? Dominic and Lily asked themselves. They exchanged glances with each other and realized that they were thinking the same thing.
"That is a relief then. She left without telling us where she was going, and now... I am just glad that she is alright," Lily said, and Williams nodded. But Dominic’s expression became even more complicated.
"How are you doing today, Selena?" Williams asked. She could be so quiet that you could easily forget her and her husband was no different. Talk about an introverted couple. But then again, it was this lifestyle that had kept them at peace with others. Although some might think negatively to their silence, the couple knew how to maintain and balance a relationship with others.
"I am doing fine, Father, thank you for your concern," she replied with a smile that had Williams smiling back at her. "I hope you slept well, too?"
"I did," he replied despite that being a lie. Well, this and the famous ’I am fine’ were lies told every day, and no one ever questions them. So it works.
"I am glad to hear that." Said Selena.
Meanwhile, somewhere far away from the crawford residence stood Jocelyn and Ash. They were currently at the border breaching Amberfell with its neighboring city but didn’t dare to go any closer than they already were.
"Why are we stopping?" Joeclyn asked, feeling frustrated that after everything that they had done, they were still hiding. A flight out of the city would have done wonders, but for some reasons, Whiplash was yet to tell her they could not and opted to take a bus. When was the last time she ever rode on a commercial bus?
"Look closely and observe, then tell me what you see," Ash said, while pulling the baseball hat on her a little down to cover her face a bit more.
Jocelyn did as he had instructed, but all she saw were officers checking for passes. Nothing out of the ordinary. "What exactly am I supposed to see? This happens everywhere."
"We manage to sneak in here with passes so we wouldn’t risk being identified and those chasing catching wind of it. What do you think would happen if we are discovered to be with and pass an ID and / or anything of that sort? Ash asked, feeling a headache coming.
Hearing his words, Jocelyn’s heart dropped to her stomach. Was all the effort in vain? How come she never thought of this outcome before? Everything around her suddenly started to spin, and she felt she would collapse soon, but before anything could go out of control, she felt his hand on her head, followed by his voice, still calm and collected.
"Don’t worry, I promise to get you out of here, and so I will. So calm down, okay?" He assid while she nodded her head, clutching his arm. Had she not been foolishly jealous of another person, she wouldn’t be in this position. Running away like a criminal. Maybe she was, but still...
"It’s all my fault," Jocelyn uttered. Her eyes welled up with tears. "I should have listened to you when you said i shouldn’t do it, but now look at how things have turned out," she was regretful, but of what use was it now? "I dragged you into this. I took advantage of your feelings and dragged you into this mess. You would still have your life right now had it not been for me."
Ash listened to her without stopping her. As much as he wanted to tell her to stop, to wipe away those tears, he also knew this was a realization that was long overdue. She has finally seen her mistakes, and maybe if they get a second chance, she wouldn’t repeat the same mistakes again.
"I want to blame Sara for this, but I know she did nothing. All she got was a promotion while I wanted to kill her," she looked up abruptly, her hand gripping his arm tightly. "Am I an evil person, Ash?"
Ash was taken aback by her sudden question like he blinked and smiled softly at her. "Jealousy can make even the kindest person to do something selfish and maybe wicked. But you, sweetheart, you are not a bad person. I know because ii didny fall in love with a wicked woman."
"But..." He pressed a finger on her lips and shook his head.
"It is good enough that you have realized your mistakes. Don’t beat yourself too much," he said before staning and held her hand in his own. "We must find a way to leave now. I have a and feeling something is about to happen."
Jocelyn quickly wiped her tears with the back of her hand, her heart racing at his words but not in the good way. She looked up at his face and saw him scowling. His jaws worked and his grip on her hand tightened. "Ash...?"
"They are here too," Ash said, he balled his free hand so hard he almost bled. It was such bad luck that they were in a bus with very limited exits.
