Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 128. Why Her?

Chapter 128: 128. Why Her?

"Olivia, right?" Amber asked, her chin propped on her palm. She had an amused smile on her lips and her shine with something that Olivia couldn’t quite understand.

Seated at the dining table, Olivia couldn’t take her eyes off of the three people seated along with her. She never expected to meet some bug shots here and was not at all prepared to face them. "Y...Yes, I am.." she tried not to stutter but barely made it.

"I thought as much," Amber nodded her head, a smile on her lips. While Olivia couldn’t help blushing. Who would have thought that the nation’s goddess knew her name?

While she drowned in her thoughts, the eyes of the other three shifted to the entrance where the house’s masters approached.

"Good morning everyone," Sara’s voice was the first thing that Olivia heard, resulting in an abrupt pause to her train of thoughts as her brows pulled together.

What was she doing here? Olivia asked herself before turning to see Alex standing beside her. His hand draped possessively around Sara’s waist, and her eyes widened while her heart skipped a beat. It isn’t true, right? She asked herself again.

She had heard her mother and father going on about Sara and Alex getting married the day before, but she never believed but seeing them together now... What was she supposed to think of it? "It can’t be true,"she muttered in a low voice.

On the other hand, Sara raised a brow in amusement. She had to admit that she only came to know of Olivia’s visit while descending the stairs, but she never thought watching her expression change so drastically would be this amusing. "Hello there, Olivia."

Sara waved her hand, a smile stuck to her face as she greeted, but Olivia was too stunned to react to it. Slowly. Her eyes shifted to her uncle, the look of disbelief filled her eyes and expression, and she opened her mouth to speak but ended up clamping it closed without uttering a word.

"Oh... is there something we missed g here?" Dave asked, his eyes alternating between Sara and Olivia. Sparks seemed to fly between them, although Sara had a smile on her face as she looked at the young girl.

"This family sure is an interesting one," Amber said with a light chuckle. "Good morning, Sara dear. I hope we didn’t intrude on anything?"

Sara’s attention shifted to her, and her smile softened as she shook her head. "Not at all. I didn’t know you were coming here. It would’ve been a better host," Sara said, but her words further rubbed in Olivia’s wounds and pride.

Sara Ambrose was the host of Opulence Oaks. While she could only claim to be related to its owner, Sara could rightfully say she owned it. Why did all of her efforts kick the nobody out of the rich society in vain now? She worked so hard to make her brother hate Sara, although her plans didn’t work out as expected, he still dumped her in the end and she was happy with that. So, what happened now. Why was her uncle, the family’s genius, standing beside her and holding her like she was his precious treasure?

"Nah, never mind that, it’s our fault," Kyle brushed it off with a wave of his hand. "If we wanted to be properly hosted, we would have sent a notice beforehand."

"I am glad you realize your mistake," Alex said as he pulled a chair for Sara. Once seated, he pushed it back before taking the seat beside her at the head of the table.

We are aware of that. You don’t have to emphasize," Dave said, almost rolling his eyes.

"I hope you had a good night’s rest?" Sara asked, and they nodded and hummed.

Olivia watched their little exchange with a prickling heart. How come Sara was all so familiar with them? She didn’t deserve such treatment. What was it that was so special about this plain looking woman that attracted men? Sure, she had the curves, height, and face that was a little beautiful, but Olivia couldn’t see anything special in her.

"We did. I know I did," Amber replied.

"This house seems a lot warmer compared to the last time I spent the night here. Although it’s not surprising why it’s like that," Kyle said, his warm gaze locked on Sara, who blushed at his words. "It is quite impressive what the presence of a single woman can do in a place," he added.

"Uncle Alex," Olivia interjected before anyone else could speak. She was young, the youngest at the table and should have waited for her elders to stop talking before she spoke but she had so many questions to ask and the shock of the truth before didn’t let her remain silent.

Alex turned to her. He isnl didn’t mean to ignore her, but he could disrupt the flow of an already ongoing conversation. "How are you, Olivia," he asked. His tone is calm and collected. Her brother may have gotten on his last nerve last night, but it had nothing to do with her.

"I am fine, Uncle, but..." her eyes darted to Sara who was now looking in her direction too. "Why is she..." she was unable to complete her words afraid of the answer that she already knew but di t what a confirmation to.

Alex looked at Sara who she was looking at and understood her question but what bothered him was how bothered she was. The shock and pain in her eyes was so evident that it puzzled him. Was their relationship that bad?

"I am sorry we have come for a proper introduction yet. But you guessed it right. Sara is the mistress of this house, my wife and your aunt," Alex said, watching her expression as he eyes widened. Well, she would have to accept it sooner or later. There was nothing that she could do to change that.

"But, Uncle Alex, she was... how could you...?" Olivia clenched her fists under the table, clutching the hem of her dress so tightly it would have torn had her nails been any sharper than they were. "She was Adam’s fiance. He still..."

"Olivia," Sara called, her hand held that of Alex to stop him when he wanted to speak and he refrained from speaking. She smiled softly at the girl, Sara didn’t know what the girl didn’t like about her but she always was just a smiling little brat. Too pampered and entitled. "Why don’t we have a co versatile later? Just us two. Alex can join us if you wish. You can speak your mind then," she proposed.

But Olivia furrowed her brows.

"Mrs Lawson is here with the girls to serve breakfast, let’s keep the bad blood aside first shall we? It wouldn’t be nice eating while angry. I hear it’s bad for the mind and body," Sara added.

Olivia looked at Alex who nodded his head and she nodded hers in agreement. "Okay," she uttered.

"Thank you," Sara said with yet another smile that put Olivia in a tough and awkward position.

"Young Master, Madam," Mrs Lawson greeted with a curt bow.

"Good morning, Mrs Lawson. Please go ahead," Sara said and the woman nodded befire stepping aside for the maids to serve the dishes.

Once done, the maids left while Mrs Lawson waited a little longer.

"How is Saidr, Mrs Lawson? I know she can be a handful. I hope she isn’t giving you much trouble?" Sara asked and the middle aged woman smiled.

"It was a little difficult for her to adapt to the way things are done here but she is doing fine now," Mrs Lawson replied.

"I am glad to hear that," Sara said, pleased to hear that despite Sadie’s personality, she was doing alright and was adapting well. "You may leave now."

Mrs Lawson gave a little bow to her before leaving. "Enjoy your meal," she said.

"Someone’s doing a fine job bossing true servants," Amber teased. "By the way, where is she? Sadie. She is the bodyguard Mr Gildman sent to you right?"

"Yes, she is," Sara replied, her cheeks still a hit red for being told she was bossing people around.

"You did good," Alex said softly, his thumb caressing her arm reassuringly.

"All this tall and no one’s eating, the food would get cold soon," Dave said, picking his silverware. "I can, right?"

"No, it’s poisoned," Kyle said with an eye roll while Dave glared at him. And just like that they began their usual banter, the tension from earlier once again forgotten.
