Chapter 123: 123. Enough strength to last a night
A few minutes before tue guest started departing, Jessa received a text message from Jaxon telling them to meet them upstairs, where they had earlier been when they came in. She excused herself and left the chatty group.
"Did you find them?" She asked as soon as he was with them. Kaxon smirked and walked around her while Bernice felt a headache coming.
"Why don’t you take a guess?" He said, his smirked still intact.
"We did," Bernice said, putting an end to whatever Jaxon had in mind. She was in no mood to be fed dog food.
"What a killjoy," Jaxon said, but Bernice smiled. "Look over there, at the extreme end, just beside the window," he said to Jessa, even guiding her face in which direction to look. "That’s him. Dane Scott is your man."
Jessa’s eyes narrowed as she tried to get a better view of the man’s features. He was blonde, but thay was all she could put to his name at the moment.
"You say that like you did all by yourself. You’ll wouldn’t even know his name had ut not been for me," Bernice said, giving a hard glare to Jaxon.
"What are you trying to say, Bernice?" Jaxon asked, confused what she was trying to convey.
"Give credit to where it is due. I deserve that much, at least," she replied.
"Fine, Bernice got his name," Jaxon said with a flat tone, but Bernice didn’t seem to mind. Rather, she smiled and nodded her head in appreciation.
"Did you find out why he is after her? Jessa asked, not at all bothered by the little banter, although it was starting to get to her. She just left one at the table qhere she was seated only to face another.
"They are engaged," Bernice replied with a thoughtful expression. "Apparently, the Goldmans and The Scotts have an engagement between their children and since she happens to be Mr Goldman’s only daughter and child, that falls on her."
"This is ridiculous," Jessa sighed, now finding Jaxon’s body behind her useful and helpful as she leaned backward. "Sara is married now, so what would this lead to now?"
"More conflicts and possibly heartache," Jaxon replied. His hand at her side, holding her firmly. He loved how she leaned on him, and he wanted to comment on it, but he was smarter than that.
"What do you mean?" Jessa asked, not sure why he would say something like that.
"Alexander and Dane are not the best of friends. You could even call them mortal enemies," Bernice replied and smiled as if the thought of two men fighting each other was sight to behold. "How nice it would be to have two rich and hot guys fight over me," she uttered in a dreamy tone.
"I think there’s something wrong with you," Jessa said with a frown on her face. While she was worried for her friend’s safety, Bernice was daydreaming about men fighting each other.
"At least I am not involved in a love rectangle... or maybe a square?," Bernice shrugged. "Do you think any of her exs will appear again? That would be fun. I should start digging up dirt on them too incase we would need to put them back in place."
"Aren’t you being too excited for this?" Jaxon asked, his eyes narrowing at her. "Ignore her remarks, Jess. I don’t think they would be so foolish as to try anything now that she is married."
"Thers something about a poweful man’s belonging that entices others too. What if now that she is married, they realize what they have lost and try to win her back?" Bernice continued. "I have heard that it happens."
"Then they are fools," Jaxon replied.
But Jessa thought seriously about what Bernice said. "Go on with your plan, Bern. It is better to be prepared than be taken off guard." She said, and Bernice smiled. This was her speciallty and she would do it in a way that no one else could."
"Got it."

"Aunt Stella, Aunt Claire, I think it’s time for us go now," Sara said wanting to free Alex from the human trap he was in but didn’t want to escape knowing she was still having fun.
"So soon? Sigh... it was nice to have you join us here," Stella said, and Claire nodded her head.
"It’s not often we share something like this to you young people," Claire added while Sara just smiled.
She just got married, but they talked as if she had been married for years now. "I did learn a lot from you. I’ll put that to practice when necessary," she said, and they smiled pleased by what she said.
"I guess we can’t keep him any longer," Silas said, shaking hands once again with Alex, and then Mr Snow, Anne’s father, followed.
"Yes. It’s their wedding night. Let’s not exhaust them anymore. Save some strength for later," he said, hinting at what had Sara’s face flushing a deep red.
"You don’t have to worry about me, I still have enough strength to last a night," Alex said. They laughed, but Sara couldn’t be redder than she was now. Even her ears have taken a crimson shade.
"Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it soon," Stella said, placing a hand on Sara’s shoulder but didn’t hide the smile on her face. "You married a good man, Sara. That is what truly matters."
Sara couldn’t agree more. She thought she would regret it but until now, there was no such thing as regret. "Thank you for your kind words and advice, Aunt. I’ll keep them all in mind."
"We will see you to your friends," Claire chimed, and they all started for the other table, which their children abandoned them for.
Seeing them coming, everyone stood up
Sandra an Anne became embarrassed and unable to meet their parents’ eyes.
"At least you still have a conscience," Claire clicked her tongue but smiled at their childish act. No matter how much older they become, they just couldn’t let go of that one simple act.
"You don’t blame us, do you?" Anne asked.
"Of course we don’t. In exchange, we had these two with," Silas replied, looking like a proud father. "We wanted to thank you l for coming tonight. Your presence here was quite...unexpected but very appreciated." he said to Amber, Dave, and Kyle.
"Sorry we nearly ruined your event. But I must admit, it is enviable how long you have been together," Amber looked at Sandra and smiled. "And your daughter, she’s quite a lovely person too."
"You make this shy soul proud," Stella said, smiling from ear to ear.
"No, she isn’t wrong. Thirty years is not an easy thing. I mean, that’s my whole life, and it’s a lot ," Dave agreed once again, making them laugh.
"And I am the late comer. I hope you don’t mind?" Kyle said with an apologetic tone, and they shook their heads.
"We are just gkad that you all could make it. Thank you," Stella replied, truly grateful to them. They would have never thought of inviting these set of people. Even Alexander, who was also in the business world with them, they were unable to reach him, but somehow, because of a connection they didn’t even know about, he was here with them.
"That makes us glad. We wish to be back here to celebrate more years with you," Amber said.
"And by then, you should have your spouse with you," Alex chimed in, and her expression froze.
"Ignore him. You can’t force something special like this," Claire went to her aid.
"Be patient and wait for the right one," Mr Snow added.
After exchanging more words, Jessa joined them before they said their goodbyes.
Leaving the hall, Sara’s heary suddenly started to race. She didn’t know why but she had a bad feeling about it. As if sensing her distress, Alex wrapped his hand around her waist and drew closer to her, walking at her pace.
"Are you all right?" He asked, his tone laced with concern.
Sara didn’t reply immediately, but then she nodded her head. "Yes, I am fine."
Alex didn’t immediately look away as he took a moment to study her. Once he made her sure, she was not physically hurt. He assumed she must be exhausted. After all, it had been a long day. So he nodded and looked ahead.
"It seems I missed all the fun. His nephew came but I missed it, and now, Dane chickened out. What a bummer," Kyle said, and Amber agreed with him.
"I don’t think we missed it just yet. look..." Dave said as he tipped his chin to the front where Dane could be seen leaning against a car, obviously waiting for them.
