Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 121. A Opportunist
Chapter 121: 121. A Opportunist
Adam clenched his fists as the urge to pull the ring off of Sara’s finger nearly overwhelmed him. His jaws worked, barely able to contain his anger. His anger soared higher when Alex leaned towards Sara as if to whisper something to her ears.
"Uncle...’ he called, unable to keep himself calm anymore. What he saw at the hospital that day struck a chord in him, and this sight before him snapped that. "What is the meaning of this?"
Alex paused and turned to look at it with a raised brow. While Sara acted as if he wasn’t even there.
"Answer me, Uncle," he demanded, his eyes meeting those of Alex filled with indifference.
Alex leaned lazily on his knuckles. He had expected a confrontation, and even his friends expected it too, but he still found it quite immature that Adam truly decided to do this here. Couldn’t be a little more mature about it?
"What exactly am I supposed to answer, Adam?" Alex asked, his tone, calm and lazy. "I can’t answer an unclear question." From the side, he could see people staring and mumbling, and he cursed in his mind. Not that he was afraid of what they would think. He just didn’t like how nosy people could become. "Let’s save this for another time, Adam. Do not disrespect the Romanovs in this way— you are causing a scene." He pointed out.
Adam took a moment to look around and found shocked gazes at them. Right... no knows that he and Alex were related. He thought but didn’t falter still.
"I don’t care what they think. I want answers from you and Sara. Why would you go ahead and marry my fiance?" He asked and shocked gasped filled the hall. Well, he just announced their marriage for them. He realized that a little too late.
"The nerve of you," Anne hissed from the side, her eyes glaring sharply at Adam. How dare he come here and claim Sara as his fiance? Had he no shame?
"The fact that they are married means she is no longer your fiance, but an ex, Adam. Don’t get that wrong again," Jessa said. Unlike Anne, she looked at Adam as if he’s got some screws loose somewhere up in his head.
"This has nothing to do with you," Adam said, glaring at the two women who didn’t know their place.
"Sorry, but it does," Sandra, who came over as soon as she saw Adam approach that particular table. She walked around him and went to stand behind Sara’s chair, her arm on Sara’s shoulder and eyes glaring sharply at him. "Who do you think you are to come here and claim any rights over our friend?"
"You lost that right a long time ago," Anne stood up and joined Sandra behind Sara. "So beat it."
"Do you still want me to answer that?" Alex asked. Although Sara’s friends taking it personally with Adam like this was a big surprise, he appreciated their support. They didn’t seem quite fond of their marriage earlier, so this was just unexpected.
"Sara...?" Adam turned his attention to Sara. He didn’t know what he was expecting, but he looked at her as if she were the one to pass the final judgment upon him.
"I would say stop this now and save yourself from further embarrassment, Adam. Everyone here knows that you and I have long broken up," Sara said. The indifference in her tone struck him hard. He felt his legs grow weak, but he struggled to keep them firm on the ground.
"After the many years we shared together, this is what you have to say? You marry my uncle as a means to get back at me, and now you say this?" Adam wanted to laugh, but he was too pained to do even that.
"Aren’t you just pathetic?" Sandra scoffed, but Sara shook her head, telling her to stop.
"I should be the one asking you that, Adam. After so long together, what did you do?’ She asked him. "You threw it all away like it meant nothing, thinking or perhaps... hoping that I wouldn’t find out. And now this?" She wanted to feel sorry for him, in his denial, which came late just like his realization. He was making a fool of himself.
"I did not marry Alex to get back at you. You don’t deserve that. Breaking up with you was all I did and put an end to whatever was between us. I would appreciate it if you would stop harassing me and my husband, because if you don’t, you might not like the consequences," Sara continued, her eyes turning a shade darker as she said that. The threat in her words didn’t go unnoticed either.
Hearing her call Alex, her husband, like that, pricked him. His ego couldn’t accept that. He should have been the one that she called so proudly as her husband. Had she not called off the engagement, they would have been married by now. That title of ’husband’ would have been his.
"I never knew you were such an opportunist. A gold digger," he uttered out of anger.
"I am glad you know now that you have nothing to offer me. Who sees a diamond and chooses a piece of rock instead?" Sara said without any remorse in her tone. Her eyes locked with thse of Adam, and challenging him to say something.
She knew her words could be easily misinterpreted, but who cares. She didn’t marry Alex for his money. As long as it gets on Adam’s nerves, that is fine. Whatever people chose to think, then it was their business.
Amber couldn’t hold back her laughter at Sara blunt remark. She puts her phone, which she had been using to film the whorl ordeal away and covered her mouth to muffle the sound of her laughter. "Sorey about that. I didn’t mean to laugh," she said smiling, but also barely holding back a full-blown grin.
Jessa smirked, the look of surprise and prude in her wyss while Anne and Sanra didn’t even hide the fact that they were enjoying Adam’s humiliation.
Adam opened his mouth, but as soon as the meaning behind Sara’s words struck him. He closed his mouth, losing all the words that were just at the tip of his tongue.
"You have disrupted the party, Adam. I would advise you to leave now and save yourself face. Don’t damage your reputation more than you already have," Sara said, showing him the door, but he stood there, staring at her and Alex. Still holding on to his shattered pride.
"And if I don’t?" He asked. He wanted to see just how far Sara would go to get rid of him. His expression. Twitched when Sara smiled and Alex smirked.
Without a word, Sara took out her phone and made a call. "Could you come here for a moment," she said. In less than a minute, footsteps were heard approaching the table. All eyes shifted to the dsrk haired woman, her steps precise and exoression, hard.
"You called for me, Miss Goldman?" Sady asked, but her stance remained respectful.
"Miss Goldman!?" A woman from the nearest table to them exclaimed. She was not the only one who seemed taken aback by the revelation as everyone who heard it appeared to be as shocked, too.
Even Adam, who had suspected it before, was also surprised. Hearing it for himself now served as a confirmation to his assumption, and it hit him harder than he ever expected it to. Sara was a Goldman, and he was only learning of this after she walked away from him, refusing to give him face. A second chance. How could he accept that?
"Yes, I did," Sara’s voice cut through the whispers around, putting a plastic to them. "Could be so kind as to show him out? I don’t want to see him anymore."
"Yes, of course," Sadie beamed as if thay was what she had been waiting for all night. But as soon as she turned and saw who she was asked to send away, her face fell. "It’s you again?"
"We are so sorry for the trouble. We will take him away now," Juliu said as he and Chris came to stand on either side of Adam.
"Please forgive our friend over here. He has yet to move on and its...well..." Chris said, leaving his wires hanging.
Sara offered a toothless smile but it didn’t reach her eyes. She kne these men but she didn’t know what to think of them. She had once considered them friends but kw she realized that all they did was cover up for Adam.
"Then get him out or will," Sadie said, keeping her voice down as she was sensitive of the many ears around them.
"Yes, please excuse us," Chris replied as he and Julius nudged Adam to move. Although reluctant, Adam allowed his friends for take hom away. He didnt think he could walk out of there alone.
Things didn’t immediately go back to normal but people did try to pretend nothing happened.
"You all seem to be having fun here, mind if I join?" Everyone turned to look at the blonde man who has now taken the place of Adam.
