Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 120. We Nedd To Talk
Chapter 120: 120. We Nedd To Talk
Silas Romanov stepped on the podium as he accepted the microphone from the family butler, who was playing MC for the night. "Thank you, James," Mr. Romanov said, and James gave a respectful bow before stepping aside.
Before he started speaking, Alex and Sara walked to a table and sat down, Amber, Jessa, and Anne joined them.
Once everyone was seated, Mr. Romanov nodded his head as he started talking. "On behalf of my family and myself, I want to thank everyone for coming to celebrate with us. You have our heartfelt gratitude," he paused as the people nodded while others just smiled. "It wasn’t easy coming this far. Our marriage as many would think may appear to be perfect, but we all know that there is no such thing as perfection. We had our ups and downs and even times when it felt like we couldn’t go on anymore. But here we are, thirty years spent together. Thirty years of fighting, forgiving, and making amends. Making mistakes, some of which you can amend and others which you live to regret because you couldn’t change the outcome..."
As he spoke, Alex intertwined his finger with Sara’s. Was it a coincidence that today just also happens to be the day they got married? Here was a couple celebrating thirty long years of togetherness besides the odds. It was worth envying.
Feeling his hands on her own, Sara looked at him and smiled subtly while gently squeezing his hand. The guests clapped as Stella joined her husband on the stage, garnering their attention back.
"...But the one thing that we are very proud of, the evidence of our love and devotion, is none other than our beloved daughter, Sandra," Mr Romanov continued and once again everyone clapped as Sandra made her way up the podium to meet her parents. "Before this child came into our lives, it was not an easy battle for us. We faced ridicule and pressure from all angles. The thought of divorcing even crossed our minds, but in the end...Stella and Silas smiled, reminiscent of their past together. "....We are happy it all worked out, and today, we celebrate thirty years of marriage."
The audience clapped, smiles adorning their faces. Some were filled with envy and others with admiration as they looked at the family of three.
"It’s impressive how long two people can be together," Amber commented, clapping along with everyone else. "I guess she chose the right partner after all." Her gaze shifted toward the newly married seated beside, and she smiled inwardly. ’Maybe not all men suck,’ she thought.
"That is true," Anne nodded in agreement. "Uncle Silas has always been a good man and a wonderful father."
"Well, how long do you think you’ll last?" Amber asked, directing her question to Sara and Alex. A teasing smile played on lips as she arched her brow.
"A lifetime," Alex replied without a second hesitation. Amber gaped at how certain he sounded. She blinked numerous times and attempted talking but couldn’t form the words.
His reply didn’t only catch Amver off guard but Anne and Jessa, who whipped their heads towards him almost immediately as he uttered them. Just how certain was he to say something like? All three ladies instinctively turned their heads towards Sara, who was as red as a tomato.
"Ahem... I think that’s enough now. I know you love her, but you are willing to ledge your whole life to..." Amber started again but was interrupted by Alex.
"Isn’t that the point of marriage? Why get married if you can not commit?" He asked. Amber didn’t seem to have the answer to why he nodded his head. "You and I have different views on things, Amber. But you should know better by now. If others marry with the intent of marrying again, I am not like that."
"I know," Amber said with a nod. It’s just still unbelievable to me. I can’t picture myself with one person for life. It gets boring and..."
"True," Sara nodded in understanding. "Even love hurts most of the time, and when it doesn’t, you get bored. But then again, if you meet the right person, you wouldn’t get bored or as hurt," Sara said rberi g her own experiences. Falling in love has hurt her a lot more than she ever thought it would. It was why she still doubted that this thing with Alex would go on as smoothly like this forever, but what Silas said did touch her. There was never truly a perfect man, woman, or family. Couples fight. And when they don’t, problems arise, both external and internal, just to rock the boat. And if possible, sink it.
"Find the one thing for you, and when you do, you’ll understand " Alex added. Their hands under the table still remain intertwined, feeling more connected now than ever.
All three ladies stared at them, having no words to say and finding it hard to believe the words they were hearing the two people whom they never thought would say anything remotely close to that.
"Who would’ve thought you’ll become a love expert after marriage," Dave’s voice filled with sarcasm came to their ears.
"It’s good that you could join us, Dave, but save the sarcasm, would you?" Amber retorted, and he rolled his eyes.
"Storm’s coming. He is already on his way here. He didn’t want to.kiss whatever drama would unfold here later, and neither did I," he pulled a chair and helped himself. "It would be nice to have everyone seated together like this again even if it’s for something so ridiculous as seeing Alex I trouble."
"And you call that ridiculous," Amber said clearly, having other thoughts in mind.
"Always nice to see you, Sara," Dave greeted with a polite smile.
"It’s good that you could join us, Mr. Dylan," Dara said with a nod of her head.
"Mr Dylan?" Anne called, staring unblinking at the figure seated beside her.
"Hey there, beautiful," Dave gave a charming smile
"Eww...That’s so gross," Amber exclaimed, and everyone else laughed.
"What a jealous individual," Dave clicked his tongue.
While they were engaged in friendly banter, Sara, Jessa, and Anne just watched them. Although this wasn’t Sara’s first time witnessing them argue like this, she still found it hard to believe that people like them would be like this. If their fans and admirers out there knew of this, what would their reaction be?
"Save me the nonsense. When is Kyle getting here? He is taking forever," Amber dismissed all his remarks, a small pout on her lips as her eyes stared at the entrance.
"It’s impressive," Sara uttered, and they both turned and looked at her with furrowed brows.
"She meant it’s impressive how childish the two of you truly are," Alex said with a straight face.
"That’s not what I meant," Sara quicklybinterjected but couldn’t suppress the chuckle that had her shoulders trembling. Just how blunt could he be? These were his friends right here.
"Doesn’t look like it," Dave stated, and Amber nodded.
"No. I am serious,’ she calmed herself, putting on a serious expression. "It’s impressive how close you all are and how much you don’t care about what people think. I mean, everyone is literally staring here now." She tipped her chin to her right and left and then looked there too. "Do you see now?"
"They don’t know who I am, and even if they do, they don’t dare come closer or utter a word about this," Dave said, his words hinting at something that wasn’t so hard for them to grasp.
The chatter suddenly died when A the familiar figure of Adam approached the table. His gaze locked on the two people who had been in his mind for days now. With an expression as hard as stone, he stopped facing them, ignoring every other person seated at the table. His eyes locked on Sara fingers where the ring was and his expression hardened.
Everyone silently stared at him, all of them already knowing why he was there but chose to remain silent.
"We need to talk, Uncle Alexander," Adam said. Though his words were polite, it was obvious they were forced. Adam hated himself for still the title to that namey. It has become a force of habit to always call him uncle, that it slipped out of his tongue before he could control it.
