Chapter 116: 116. Home
The grand banquet hall was lavishly decorated, and the tables decorated with white and red clothes had empty glasses scattered across the hall. Although it was still quite early, everything seems to be in place already.
Looking down from the top second floor, Sandra and Anne eagerly awaited the moment their friends would walk in. They couldn’t wait to see them even though they had already been told that they would come.
"You two need to calm down," Mrs Romanov, Sandra miter, said as she walked to where they stood.
"But..." Sandra was about to complain when she shook her head.
"Haven’t they told you that they would come?" She asked. She cupped their faces and smiled knowingly. They had been raised in a way that they didn’t have much patience, and she was to blame as Sandra’s mother, but other than that, they were good kids. "Trust them and trust their words. You know better than I do, and I am certain that they will be here and on time."
"You are right, Aunt," Anne said with a nod. "They always keep to their words."
"See?" Mrs Romanov smiled. "Exercise a little patience, okay sweethearts?"
"You don’t have to say it that way. We are not kids, Mama," Sandra said, making her mother chuckle lightheartedly.
"No matter how big you become, I’ll still be your mother. Our age difference doesn’t change," she said, smiling meaningfully while they pouted but didn’t refute her words. "I will leave you girls alone now. Be a dear and inform me when Claire comes around," she said, looking at Anne at her last statement.
"Of course," Anne nodded with hesitation. Their mothers had always been friends. It was through their friendship that Anne and Sandra also became friends. They had often joked that had either of them been a male, they would have had them married, although Anne and Sandra were more than happy that none of them was a boy.
As soon as Mrs. Romanov left them, Jessa walked in with Bernice and Jaxon. They stopped at the door and looked around. Jessa nodded in satisfaction, and a small smile curved on her lips, knowing how much perfectionist Mrs Romanove could be.
Looking up, she found her friends staring down at them. They gazed curiously at Jaxon, who was confused. What were they thinking now? Jessa thought.
"Come, let’s go before those two start making assumptions," she said, resuming her steps again, and they followed her.
"They seem quite interested in you, Jax. They don’t even know you, yet they are already wary of you," Bernice teased and got a glare from Jaxon.
"Maybe they are captivated by looks. Not many guys are as good-looking as I am," Jaxon counted, and she raised a brow.
"Just walk, you two," Jessa said at the front. She was used to bickering like this, but there should be a time and place. Although she had to admit, they always liven the mood some when needed.
"See, I told you, didn’t I? She actually brought along a boyfriend," Anne nudged Samdra a little with her elbow.
"You don’t seek to see the other woman with them. What if she is his girlfriend and not Jessa?" Sandra said, knowing not to take her hopes too high.
Knowing Sada and Jessa, they had a thing against men. Although Sara was always ready to try, Jessa never bothered. If they didn’t know her, they would have thought that someone must have hurt her before and thus her dislike towards them.
"Didn’t you see the way he looked at Jessa? He was glaring at the other lady, but his gaze softened when he laid his eyes on Jessa. He definitely likes her," Anne argued, refusing to believe otherwise.
"True," Sandra agreed with a nod of her head. But that doesn’t mean Jessa likes him. You know as well as I do."
Anne wanted to say something, but she closed her mouth. Sandra was right. This made her frown. The guy didn’t look bad, and the fact that he was already close to her, it meant he was bad as a person either. Or at least someone Jessa could stand.
"She is friend zoning him. Poor guy," Anne said as she looked sympathetically towards the approaching Jaxon.
"Yeah. Now, let’s stop before they get close enough to hear us. Jessa wouldn’t be pleased."
"Mm-hmm," Anne hummed and started moving towards the trio.
"What were you discussing?" Hessa asked. She had tried to read their lips but failed because they were being careful, but she knew that they were talking about her and the new friends. Especially Jaxon since they didn’t hide their gaze at all.
"We were just wondering who you have with you. Is that wrong?" Sandra said, looking between Bernice and Jaxon.
"There is nothing wrong with that. Especially since we know a lot about you guys, and you probably know nothing about us," Bernice said before Jessa could speak, which Jessa gave her a sharp glare.
Anne and Sandra looked at Jessa with accusations in their eyes, and Jessa sighed as she massaged her temple.
"I am Bernice, by the way. And this big oaf right here is Jaxon. He can be quite a grumpy fella, but Jessa doesn’t think so," Bernice said as if she didn’t notice the tension between the friends.
"Can you just let her talk?" Jaxon said. He looked displeased, but Bernice knew that he was that way because he was introduced by her rather than Jessa instead of the way she had been introduced.
"Our names remain the same no matter who introduces us," Vernice clicked her tongue while Jessa just stared at them.
Sandra and Anne had smiles on their faces, but for some reason, Jessa didn’t think she wanted to know. When they shared a knowing gaze, she felt a headache coming. Why was she surrounded by these kinds of people? Where was Sara when she was needed?
"There was nothing to know about them. That’s why I never told any of you about them. But on the other hand, you guys are much more fun," she said even though she could now see the similarities between them four.
"It’s nice to meet you. Since you know about us already, I guess there’s no need for an introduction," Anne said while stretching her to Jaxon first. "You and I need to talk about Jessa," she mouthed inaudibly to him.
His brows furrowed, but in the end, he nodded. The hand shake had gone on for much longer than it was supposed, so he had to do what she wanted before she let go of his hand. Anne beamed as she then turned to Bernice.
"You look like a fun person to have around."
"What can I say, I am one of a kind," She uttered.
"Yet I find more than just one of the people standing in front of me," said Jessa, but the others only smiled at her. "When did Sara say she’ll come?"

Sara and Alex returned to Opulence Oaks. As much as she would love to go early to spend some time with her friends, she couldn’t do that without considering Alex. She knew he had no reason to go there other than to accompany him, and she wasn’t going to exhaust him by making him wait for the party to begin at another’s home.
"Welcome home," Alex uttered, placing his chin on her shoulder as he hugged her from behind.
Sara smiled subtly as her gaze swept around the room. She leaned her back on his chest. The word ’home’ repeated in her mind many times, and each time, she felt her smile widen. "Yes, this is home," she agreed.
Now that she thought of it, she had long accepted this place as her home even without realizing it. She never made a fuss to leave, nor did she even think about it. Not even when she thought that Alex was ignoring or maybe tired of her. She never left his bedroom either. But he never did anything that she would consider wrong or improper.
"You know, I have yet to know what the other rooms in this house are like," she said with a serious and contemplative look.
"Hmm?" Alex gazed at her, his brows pulling together. "Are you planning on abandoning me on our wedding night? It’s nit even a day yet, but you want another room?"
