Melting Her Cold Heart -
Chapter 112. Not Easy To Take Down
Chapter 112: 112. Not Easy To Take Down
Adam returned to the Crawford residence, his brooding figure imposing. Every step that he took was filled with rage. His clenched fists and hardened jaws could be seen by anyone even without them trying.
Mr. North had come to receive him as always, but he snorted at him and walked by him as if he was of no significance. Although he took no offense to the young man’s offensive behavior, he was quick to find Williams.
Adam made his way to his parents’ room. He didn’t bother knocking and opened the door. Someone needed to share in his anger and pent up frustration.
And just as he thought, Lilly was furious.
"Have you lost all respect for your parents now, Adam?" She uttered with a deep frown on her face. It was as if she couldn’t see the many emotions he was going through all at once. "I don’t remember raising you this way."
Adam didn’t even stop to greet her or apologize to her. He just went straight to where Dominic was seated, pretending to noy hear his wife yelling as he glued his eyes in the newspaper that Adam was sure he was not reading. It probably outdated already, but she still kept it around for times like this.
"Are you sure you are his older brother, Father?’ He asked, his tone cold. There was a hidden threat in the way he said that Dominic could not ignore even if he wanted to.
"Who and what do you mean?" Dominic asked. The first name that appeared in his kind was Alex, but he didn’t want to jump into conclusions.
"Alexander. Are you sure that he is your little brother?" Adam repeated, and the crease between Dominic’s brows deepened. Even Lily, who had been so furious at his barging in, now stood confused.
"Yes,’ Dominic replied, wanting to see where this would lead to. Adam was obviously furious, hell, he looked as though he was ready to commit a massacre right now, but somehow, he was still holding back.
"Then tell me why he would marry Sara of all women?" He balled his fists as his eyes darkened even further. Both Dominic and Lily were taken aback by the information but with the seriousness in his tone and expression, they didn’t think he was joking around. "He could have any woman he wanted, so why her? Why would he choose her despite knowing we had something going on between us?"
"I am sure there is a misunderstanding here, Adam. We all know Alex wouldn’t date just anyone, especially not someone with a past like Sara’s," Dominic said, trying to reason with his son even though he also found it hard to believe.
"I would agree to that, Adam," Lily, although shocked by the news, tried to speak as a mother should. "You once said Alexander had a woman. A Goldman. We all know Sara has no relationship with the Goldmans."
Even after she said that, Adam’s expression didn’t ease. He remembered the female bodyguard who was nothing but a pain he wouldn’t forget yet, telling him that he didn’t even know the woman he called his fiance. She even addressed Sara as her young miss. As much as he wanted to say the bodyguard was someone Alex hired, Alex barely had dealing with women. He surrounded himself with men.
Was Sara truly a Goldman? If she was, why didn’t he know about it? Then how come Alex knew it all?
"I want you to help me investigate Sara, Dad," he said to Dominic, who didn’t quite get what he meant. They already did before and found that there was nothing special about her. "I mean more than just the surface information like the last time."
"Why?" Dominic asked. Things were moving you quickly, and it was too much information to take in at once .
"There was a bodyguard with the Goldman family crest guarding Sara," he revealed, and the room fell into pin drop silence.
"This is a joke, right?" Lily couldn’t believe her ears. How come the girl with no background at all now suddenly has the strongest background after the family lost her? "That is a very expensive joke, Adam."
"I am not joking, Mum," he said through clenched jaws. "I won’t let Alexander have her so easily. So warmln you brother," he said to Dominic who didn’t react for a while until Adam was about to leave.
"Alexander is not a simple person, Adam. He wouldn’t care if you are family, kin, friend or a foe. Cross him and he will eliminate you with a second thought," his words successfully made Adam pause his steps. "Don’t do something that we would al regret."
Adam turned abruptly to face him and opened his mouth about to say something when Dominic continued.
"Trust me, if he was that easy to take down, he wouldn’t be where he is now. I would have done that long ago. And if Sara is truly a Goldman, there is even more to consider. You are about to tread on dangerous waters, Adam. Watch every step."He stood up and walked over to Adam, he placed a hand on his shoulder and squeezed it but not too harshly. "I will conduct the investigation, but you must remain low for the time being until everything is confirmed. Take no action without comsideringbuts consequences."
After saying that, Dominic left the room. Adam remained standing. The thought is his father failing in dealing with Alex nearly ate him alive. If he thought Chris and Julius were over hyping Alex and his influence, then whatever his father’s words?
"Your father is wrong," Lily finally found her voice again now that she was certain she heard right and Adam was not messing with them. "Your father would have long been killed by Alexander and that happened a long time ago. Don’t do anything that will take your from us. From me."
Adam stood there, clenching and unclenching his fists. His anger soaring to new heights.
Alexander this. Alexander that. Why was it always Alexnader?
