Melting Her Cold Heart
Chapter 110. The Painful Reality

Chapter 110: 110. The Painful Reality

Meanwhile, Adam, who had drunk himself senseless the previous night, finally woke up. A migraine hit him hard as he sat up, clutching his head with a hand while the other supported his weight. He hissed as the pain became unbearable.

He looked around once it eased up a bit and frowned, unable to recognize the room. He stood and nearly tripped on the bed sheets but was able to get his footing in time.

A knock on the door had him groaning in frustration as it managed to trigger his headache. With annoyance, he matched the door and yanked it open. He paused momentarily as soon as he saw the twin looking at him with concerned gazes.

"Where am I?" He asked. The place did not look like any of theirs, and it certainly wasn’t his.

"A hotel," Julius replied with his hands tucked inside his pockets while Chris leaned against the wall, silently observing their mess of a friend.

"You need a hangover soup," Chris said once he was done with his observation. Adam frowned, but he quietly pushed himself off the wall and walked inside the room. "I’ll order for one."

Julius followed behind while Adamnwatched them enter without his permission. Once they were seated, he closed the door before joining them. Chris did as he said as he called the hotel staff for a hangover soup.

"I know you didn’t just come here because you care about me," she held his head as he sat because it felt as if it would fall off his shoulders if he wasn’t careful enough. "Why did you come here?"

"We booked this room, Adam. Of course, we would come back to check on you," Julius said, a small frown tugged on his face, but Adam didn’t seek to buy it. His rough and unkempt appearance made him look haggard and exhausted.

"But you are right, there is another reason," Chris chimed in, and Adam sighed. He already knew that.

"Although this information got to us while we were on our way here," Julius added. Adam closed his eyes. They still felt heavy, and the rightness around him was only making his headache worse.

Why exactly did he drink so much because of someone who wouldn’t even come to check up on him even if he called and begged her to? "Please tell me I didn’t say or do anything stupid while drunk last night," he said, finding that to be more important than whatever they had to say.

"You called Sara a bunch of times, but her number was always unreachable. You even asked us to do it too," Chris said. Adam opened his eyes and looked at him and found him looking at him with a serious expression. He shifted his gaze to Julius, who also nodded.

"You wouldn’t even let us take you home, so we ended up booking a room near the bar for you. You said she’ll come, and you’ll wait for her," Julius uttered, and Adam’s face twisted.

’Shit!’ He cursed inside his head.

He wanted her back, but he didn’t want to show her such weakness. It was a food thing her phone didn’t go through. He wouldn’t know what to do with himself had she seen him that way.

"Don’t worry, we didn’t call her and she has no idea that you were a mess," Julius added to ease his worries a bit even though what they would say to him next would probably shatter him once again.

Adam nodded in gratitude. Nothing scared him more than appearing vulnerable before a woman. Especially not one he was interested in. "Then what did you come to tell me?"

His and Julius exchanged glances before coming to a silent agreement.

"Have the soup first, and then we’ll tell you," Chris said, and as if on cue, a knock on the door was heard, and she grinned. "That must be the room service."

Adam narrowed his eyes at them, but none uttered a word. Chris opened the door and accepted the soup before he returned and handed it to Adam. Adam reluctantly took the soup and ate it under the watchful gazes. It was uncomfortable eating while being watched like that, but these weren’t just anybody. They were his friends, and their presence wasn’t something new to him. Besides, if he wanted to know what was wrong, he had to do as they said.

"I am done, now tell me what you learned," Adam demanded even before he put down the spoon after taking the last sip of the soup. The soup was already taking effect, although just a little, but it was working, and he was starting to think probably again.

"You won’t like what we tell you," Julius warned just to have him prepared for possibly the worst news he would hear yet.

Adam didn’t reply or react. His gaze remained nonchalant, but his heart did pick its pace, and numerous thoughts of different possibilities and scenarios rushed through his mind.

"It’s about your uncle and ex," Adam narrowed his eyes. He hated being left in suspense like that, especially regarding this matter, but he also didn’t want to appear impatient just because he heard their names. "They are registered. As in married," Chris dropped the news on him.

"What!?" The headache he thought had subsided suddenly hit him harder than ever before as soon as he uttered that word.

"Calm yourself, Adam. You are yet to recover," Julius held his shoulders to keep him seated.

"They can’t be. Yesterday, they... they were only just..." he trailed off. Nothing was right. No relationship could move that fast. This revelation threatened to shatter the little hop3 he had that maybe Sara was only doing that to get back at him.

"They got married today," Julius said after seeing the look of disbelief in Adam’s eyes. He couldn’t ame him, they were as shocked as he is now when they heard it.

"That can’t be true," Adam felt his heart twist painfully along with the nagging headache. He refused to believe that Sara was married to Alexander.

"If you don’t believe us, you can ask her tonight at the Romanov banquet. She will be there for Sandra," Chris said.

Adam looked at him, lacking words to say but only nodded his head, quickly deciding to do just that.
