Chapter 102: His Sole Purpose

Everything happened so fast that Sara was unable to properly process what was happening. How did the conversation about her supposed engagement to a stranger resulted in this. To her being proposed to by someone who she only just confessed her feelings to just a few hours ago?

The sound of her pounding heart resonated within her ears. The look of shock and disbelief could be seen in her eyes and expression as she stared at the man kneeling before her with an engagement ring.

Sara had not in her wildest imagination imagined that he already had a ring prepared for her or that he would go to such great lengths to prove that he wouldn’t allow another man to take her from him. When she said he should prove his words with his actions, she never expected this.

"Alex...." She could only manage to utter his name. Her brain and mind are unable to think straight or communicate properly. After several seconds of searching for words, she finally spoke again, "You don’t have to rush this...or force yourself to do this... Ma...marriage isn’t something to joke about."

"I came back here with the intention to marry you. Everything else came in because it was convenient. Marrying you is my sole purpose for coming. It didn’t matter how long it would have taken me to put this ring on your finger. As long as it was eventual, I wouldn’t mind. So this is not a decision made on a whim," Alex said to her, and her breath caught in her throat. "So, will you marry me?"

Sara’s breathing became ragged as the weight of the decision she was about to make came on her. Was this what she wanted? How would he feel if she rejected him today? The last time she so much rejected his touch, he was so hurt he didn’t want to see her. How much more now? But if she accepted his proposal, would she be happy with it? But the idea of rejecting him also hurt her. Her heart ached, and the fear of losing him gnawed at her.

"...Yes," it was a gamble. This might turn out to be just like her previous engagement. Or it might be even better than she imagines it to be. He might be the one for her. The only one. Rejecting him now might deprive her of all future happiness. "Yes, I will marry you," she repeated with much more confidence and certainty.

Alex was someone who made her feel at ease, comfortable, and has seen her at her lowest. She might not remember it, but he had been in her life longer than anyone else. He knew better than even she knew herself. And marrying him now will put an end to all the plans of the Goldmans and Scotts had for her.

She nodded her head and smiled at him. He still had his eyes on her face. There was this look of disbelief in his eyes as if he didn’t expect her to say ’yes’ to him. She couldn’t blame him. She never expected herself to say it either.

Alex snapped out of his trance and quickly slipped the ring on her finger as if afraid that she would change her mind if he were to delay for a second longer. Once the ring was around her finger, they both stared at it, both of them still unable to believe it.

Alex rubbed his thumb on the ring, a small and slow smile formed on his lips as he raised her hand to his lips, placing a tender kiss on the finger with the ring. He then looked at her with all the love and admiration in the world.

Being engaged was nothing new to her, having just recently been engaged to someone else. But this... this was overwhelming. Not just because of how unexpected it was, but the way he looked at her. The pure happiness and admiration in his eyes as well as the gratitude, it was–overwhelmingly beautiful and gratifying.

Her heart hadn’t calmed down yet, and the longer they held each other’s gaze, the more frantic it became.

Alex wasn’t any different. Staring at her, holding the hand that had his ring on it. It was overwhelming for him, too. His heart beat rose significantly. She had always got his heart racing, but today, right now... nothing could describe it. Slowly rising to his feet, he cupped her cheek. His face was drawn close to hers, and she didn’t move away. She just sat still, anticipating his next move.

Slowly, he pressed his lips on hers while she closed her eyes, parting lips to let him in. But the kiss was brief as he pulled away just when she thought he would deepen it.

"Can I kiss you?" He asked, and she blinked. Was there a need to ask that now?

"Are you serious right now?" Sara frowned. Did he just kill the moment to ask that when she was already more than willing to let him in? She was at a loss for words when she saw that he wasn’t joking. She decided to take the initiative and gapped his collar, and slammed her lips on his. She kissed him hungrily till he was left with no choice but to respond with the same urgency and fervor.

His went around her waist as he guided her to lie on the bed as the heated and passionate kiss continued. She moaned onto his mouth, and she would more than pleased to swallow her sensual moans, muffling them.

Eveeythingbwas spiraling so quickly that nothing else seemed to matter to them anymore. Though this was their first kiss, it felt so much like that. With so much raw emotions mixed with pure passion and desire.

"Mmm..." she moaned as his nibbles her neck and trailing kisses down to her collar bone. Sara wound her hands around his neck.

As the tension betwennthem rose, transforming into something erotic, the sound of Alex’s ring tone sliced through the atmosphere, successfully breaking the spell binding moment.

Alex groaned in displeasure while Sara was kinda relief for the timely distraction. His hand slipped under her shity as he stroked the bares skin of her waist. He only stared into her eyes without saying a word, but she could immediately understand what he was trying to convey to her.

"Go. It must be important," she said in understanding.

"Thank you," he said as he kissed her forhead before straightening his built. "I will see you at dinner." Sara nodded her head before he walked away with his phone raised to his ear.
