MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 155: Kael Is Back
Chapter 155: Kael Is Back
Ryder’s heart sank, and he pulled her closer, holding her tight. What had triggered this reaction? And how could he bring her back? He buried his face in her hair, inhaling deeply, trying to calm himself down. His anger would not touch her. Never again...
And yet, this was not the height of his anger.
Subtly, he felt her move in his arms and his heart skipped a beat. "Reana?" he whispered again, his voice full of hope.
She didn’t respond, but she didn’t need to. Ryder felt her hands wrap around his waist, holding him tight. It was a gentle touch, but it was enough. He felt a wave of relief wash over him, followed by a deep sense of tenderness.
He held her close, his face still buried in her hair, and let out a slow breath. "I’m sorry for frightening you. I tried my best to make it subtle," he whispered.
’Subtle?’ Reana’s mind registered. ’He called that subtle? Was that subtle?’
He suddenly appeared from nowhere with an aura that knocked air out of her lungs. It suffocated her even though she tried to fight against it. She didn’t mean to be stunned or scared of him. It was a natural response to what she saw and felt.
She’d never seen, or heard of anyone appearing out of thin air, let alone exuding such an intimidating presence and casually tearing off an Alpha’s arm.
They were were-wolves. The most powerful of creatures. And Alphas, no matter how weak, were stronger than average monsters. Their bones were stronger too. For Ryder to casually tear Alpha Killian apart like he was tearing off a roasted chicken’s leg, how could that be normal?
Yes, he’d told her about his mind-blowing powers, but there was a difference between hearing and seeing. And what she just saw, her survival instinct dictated that she should be afraid.
Her face pressed against his chest, her body trembling slightly. It was beyond her control. She knew he wouldn’t hurt her, but she couldn’t control how her body reacted to what she’d just witnessed. And the smell of blood on him didn’t help matters
She slowly looked up, meeting his gaze. "Y–you," her voice quivered and she frowned. She didn’t like that, so she stopped talking and just continued to hug him. She hoped he wouldn’t think that she was scared of him. It was just her body.
Ryder smiled as he hugged her tight. He didn’t like how she was trembling in his arms, but he was relieved that she didn’t run away from him. Unlike in their previous life when she (he) called him a monster and ran away.
"I didn’t kill him, sensing you might not like that. Is that okay?" He asked and she nodded.
"I ordered them to change their Alpha and submit under your rule, with a quarter of their pack’s bounty yearly. Do you like that?"
She didn’t answer immediately. Her hug grew tighter.
Reana wanted to speak but she feared her voice would shake, considering her frazzled nerves had just begun to subside. She’d wait until her confidence was back before she spoke.
Meanwhile, she had no problem ruling two packs, except that it would disturb the order of things and other packs wouldn’t take it well. Also, she would likely lose the West Wood Pack to the winter’s fury, so she saw no need for that pack.
After a while, she pulled back and looked around, only to lock eyes with Alpha Killian’s blood pooled or scattered on the floor and table. His torn arm was nowhere to be found.
Seemed Theon took it along.
"There’s too much blood," he sighed and held her wrist as he pulled her out of the hall.
The yards at the door were stunned when Ryder walked out, pulling the Luna behind him. They didn’t see him go in, or was he inside before?
Anyway, that wasn’t their problem. What they were concerned about was the state of Alpha Killian after leaving the hall.
Who hurt the Alpha? The only person they could think of was their Luna. Although they feel proud, but the Luna’s actions could only mean war.
The members of the West Wood Pack would not sit around after their Alpha was attacked by their Luna and disabled. No disabled individual can become a leader, or hold important position in a pack, so in other words, Alpha Killian was no longer an Alpha. And for that reason, they won’t be able to avoid this war.
...
"Kael!" Madam Katherine cried when she saw her son.
Kael stood by the entrance to his mother’s room. He hadn’t changed much from three years ago, except that the aura around him was sharper, his eyes brooding, and his person exuded an air of quiet power.
He looked wicked.
Madam Katherine’s eyes welled up with tears as she took in the sight of her son, her gaze drinking in every detail. In just a few days, she looked older, her face lined with sorrow and age, but her eyes sparkled with warmth and love as she beheld Kael.
"My son," she whispered, her voice trembling.
Kael’s expression remained stoic, but a hint of emotion flickered in his eyes as he gazed at his mother. He took a step forward, his movements fluid and controlled, and Madam Katherine’s eyes never left his face. It was almost as if she couldn’t believe that her rock and pillar was back.
"Mother," he said, his deep voice low and soothing, as if calming a storm.
Kael wasn’t one to care about emotions and certainly not this level of weakness that his mother was showing. But after finding and losing his mate, he finally understood that these things could not be helped.
He’d searched high and low, turned the Mainland upside down for the past two years, still, he’d failed.
The feeling was suffocating, a constant weight that pressed upon his chest. Sometimes, he woke up, startled. Sometimes, he dreamed that he found her. It was almost driving him crazy m
"You don’t look pleasing to the eye. Go wash up and get dressed, you’re returning to the packhouse." With that, he turned and walked away.
His mother was stunned at first, then, her lips broke into a smile as she watched her son leave.
Kael is back. My son, is back!
