MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 156: Overlooked Situation
Chapter 156: Overlooked Situation
Kael stood in front of the servants with his hands folded behind him. The servant’s had their heads down, no one daring to meet his gaze.
"While I was away, a lot happened," he began. "My only sister was killed. May!" he called out.
Hearing her name being called, May jumped in fright, her eyes wide with fear. "Y-yes, Master Kael?" she stuttered, her head bowed.
Kael’s gaze fell upon her, his eyes piercing. "Tell me, what happened to my sister?" he asked, his voice low and even, but with an undercurrent of menace.
May swallowed hard, her voice barely above a whisper. "I-I don’t know, Master Kael. I wasn’t here when it happened."
Kael’s eyes narrowed, his gaze boring into her. "You’re saying you know nothing?"
May nodded hastily, her fear evident. "I-I mean, I don’t know anything about Miss Vivian’s death, Master Kael. I swear it."
Kael’s expression remained unreadable, "Come forward."
May hesitated for a split second before shuffling forward, her legs trembling with dread. She stood a few inches away from Kael, her head bowed so low that you couldn’t see her face.
"I pay you to keep an eye on my sister, not to let anything happen to her." Kael’s voice was low and even, but it sent shivers down May’s spine.
"I-I know, Master Kael. I’m sorry. I failed."
Kael’s gaze bore into her, his eyes seeming to pierce through her very soul. "Failed?" he repeated, nodding calmly as he closed the distance, one small, calm step at a time. "You owe her an apology. You’ll go to her and..."
His hand reached out, grabbing her by the neck as he forced her to look at him. "... Apologize, then serve her well."
Snap!
Her head fell to the side.
May’s lifeless body crumpled to the ground, as he released her, her eyes frozen in a permanent stare. The other servants gasped, their heads snapping up in horror as they beheld the scene before them.
Kael’s expression remained calm, unfazed by the violence he had just unleashed. He stood over May’s body, asking unhurriedly. "Anyone else who fails me will suffer the same fate," he declared, his voice devoid of emotion.
Out of over twenty servants, only one person gave him the right reply. And after that, he killed everyone, including the person who told him what he wanted to hear.
The courtyard fell silent. Kael stood amidst the carnage, his expression still calm, his eyes devoid of emotion.
"Kael?" His mother was stunned when she came out to see what her son had done.
"Look at their faces, mother, is anyone missing?"
The woman swallowed and glanced around and realized that someone was missing.
...
"About that," Reana began, her head on Ryder’s chest as she sat on her bed, while his arm wrapped around her waist. "I don’t think there’s a need for me to rule the West Wood Pack."
"Why?" He asked.
Reana stayed silent for a while. He already knew she was a seer, yet, ate was holding back from telling him her vision of the winter. It wasn’t because she didn’t trust him, far from it. It was because she wasn’t used to telling people about her gift.
"They have quite a bit of money and resources. And also manpower. You could use them to speed up the preparation for winter."
"That’s not what I’m worried about," she shook her head lightly. "The West Wood Pack would be destroyed in this winter fury. There won’t be a single soul left."
"Winter fury? What’s that?"
Reana paused. Seemed she had to tell him. After a bit of hesitation, she began. "I call this winter season, the Great Winter Fury. And that’s because it’s one of a kind we’ve never seen or heard before..."
Reana calmly told him everything she knew about the winter, the destruction, the deaths, and even her pack’s fate after unknowingly offending the Dark Snow Pack.
Ryder’s lips twitched. "Was I not in your vision?"
If he was, what was he doing while her pack was being destroyed? Clearly, he was already living in her pack as Ryder.
She shook her head, "I didn’t see you. I never saw you appear anywhere in my visions. Not even when I read Mirian’s future."
Ryder raised a brow, wondering what Mirian’s future had to do with him.
"What? Do you think I didn’t know you’re Mirian’s adviser, in regards to men?" she snorted, "You have a lot to answer to, Ryder, but right now, we have more important things to talk about."
Ryder chuckled. His woman was surely resourceful and smart. He should be careful before she pieced the puzzle and found out he was Alpha Snow.
Until he’d mended the broken life-long relationship between the Black Moon and Dark Moon Pack, he couldn’t tell Reana his true identity.
Now, Ryder couldn’t help but regret his actions of blacklisting the Black Moon Pack back then. Had he known that his women would become the Roughmans’ descendant, he would have been more patient with those back stabbers.
"At least, not in the beginning of the winter fury, right? Even if it’s one or two months into the season, you could do whatever you want with them."
Reana glared at him. "That’s malicious, Ryder. I have no bad blood with the members of that pack, only the Alpha, and you’ve already taken care of him."
She continued, "My thoughts previously, was to open the gates to the survivors from other packs that made it here for shelter. Considering the West Wood Pack is closest, I’m sure they won’t miss out on the opportunity."
"And the rogues and monsters?" Ryder suddenly asked, raising a brow at her. "Like you already said, the rogues and monsters would also be seeking shelter. Clearly, they’d be camping around the walls of your territories. How would you bring those people in?"
Reana stayed silent. She’d overlooked that part.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t the only thing she was overlooking.
"My suggestion remains, become the ruler of both packs. Then inform the West Wood Pack members of the dangers ahead. Those who trust you would come running to you, and those who don’t or have unresolved grievances over you taking over, would die. It’s also a measure to curb the bad eggs from the good ones." He added, "But if you ask me, they’d readily come under you."
