MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 153: Meeting Gone Wrong
Chapter 153: Meeting Gone Wrong
"Well, thinking about it again, a war between our packs wouldn’t be nice. How about we avoid whatever would cause war... Like this crystal whatever?" Alpha Killian didn’t let her speak and immediately added. "Let’s do this instead..." he watched Reana intently, fearing she might attack him for suddenly changing his mind, even though it was unlikely.
Reana’s expression remained neutral, but her eyes grew colder. "Go on," she said, her voice measured.
Alpha Killian took a deep breath, "I was thinking we both go there and see what the crystal... What did you call it?"
"Crystal mine," his beta whispered.
"Yes, let’s see what that thing looks like. If it’s an important asset to my pack, like the west bank is to your pack, then, it will not be mine to give." He smiled, finally having power over this conversation.
If the mine was important to their pack, his Pack’s council and high-ranking warriors would be mad if he gave it out, and it could lead to war between both packs. Also, he could use the mine as leverage to get whatever he wanted from Reana.
Alpha Killian’s heart swelled with glee as ge relaxed into his chair, finally getting his ego and pride back. His mind and every working system in his body became to scheme for the best ways to milk Reana and her pack dry for the money and manpower he was forced to give her.
Seeing a subtle smirk on his Alpha’s face, a scowl settled on his beta’s face. He wanted to scream. How could his Alpha still have the heart to mess with Luna Reana? They’ve lost roughly five hundred warriors in the space of days!
Who knew if the Nightwing monsters had returned for another round as they sat here?
"Alpha–" he tried to speak but Alpha Killian shot him a glare, silencing his beta.
The guy clenched his fist, his jaw tightened, trying his hardest to suppress the urge to snap the man’s neck – it would be easier anyway, since he was standing behind him.
Reana saw it all. She was sitting on the other end of the table, so nothing went past her eyes. Her lips raised subtly into a sneer. But the scene jolted her to reality.
Would her people one day, when they thought she was making the wrong decisions, turn on her like this? Would they wish they could snap her neck and replace her?
Reana didn’t know why she was thinking in this pattern lately, but she was truly getting restless. And it began from that day she broke the bed with Ryder.
"But I’m willing to share."
Alpha Killian’s voice snapped her out of her reverie and she locked eyes with him.
He continued, "And I think it would be best if our packs form an alliance. We can work together to defend against the Nightwings, and in return, I’ll give you unlimited access to the mine and also...let’s say, a share of the spoils?"
"Tch." Reana gave an unamused chuckle and leaned back in her chair, steepling her fingers together. This this fool think she was stupid? He wanted them to form an alliance, so her pack warriors would sacrifice their lives for them, while his own pack warriors act like little pups on the battle field?
"A share of the spoils, you say? You mean the dead bodies of the Nightwing monsters?" Reana was angry. He seemed not to have learned anything yet.
"Tsk. tsk. tsk." She clicked her tongue and shook her head. "Alpha Killian, you didn’t tell me you have strange ideas about humor. What am I supposed to do with monsters? Eat them?"
Her eyes lit up and she smiled, "Ah...is that your delicacy? Seems that’s why you have little brains?"
"Reana, how dare you!" Alpha Killian roared, his palm slapping down on the table with a furious bang, causing cobweb-like markings to spread across the surface of the wooden table.
His beta’s eyes widened in alarm as Alpha Killian’s rage seemed to reach a boiling point. Reana, however, didn’t flinch, her small smile still plastered on her face, her eyes never leaving Alpha Killian’s face, as if daring him to make another move.
The air in the room seemed to vibrate with tension, and for a moment, it seemed like the fragile truce between the two packs might shatter into a thousand pieces.
Then, in a voice that was almost bored, Reana spoke up, "Oh, do calm down, Alpha Killian. You’re making a scene."
"Making a scene?!" he roared, chest heaving with fury. He couldn’t hate this snake more than he already did. She’d stripped him off his pride as a man, stomped on it and left it to rot.
Even though there were just the three of them in the dining hall, Alpha Killian knew that Reana’s pack members were just outside that closed door. She would mindlink them to storm in at any time. And secondly, who was to say the pack members didn’t hear her call him brainless? What would his reputation be like after today?
Reana watched him with an air of detachment, her expression a mask of calm amusement. She seemed to be enjoying the spectacle, her eyes sparkling with a hint of mischief. And her reaction only made the Alpha more furious.
His face was purpled with rage, his eyes bulging like they might pop out of their sockets. He wanted to reach out, to slap her across the face. But just as his hand was about to obey his thoughts, a hand gripped his wrist from behind.
It was his beta.
"Theon!" he growled.
"Alpha, we’re here to seek help, not to fight. Our pack members–"
"I don’t care!" he thundered. "Let them burn, I don’t care! Reana has insulted me!" his chest vibrated with a guttural growl, his anger and wounded pride threatening to consume him.
The beta’s grip on his wrist tightened, eyes flashing with irritation, but he couldn’t do anything to disrespect his Alpha in a foreign pack. "Alpha, please," the beta implored, "our pack members are dying. We need Luna Reana’s help to defeat the Nightwings. Let’s not jeopardize this alliance over personal pride."
"I said, I. Don’t. Care!!" With a burst of power, he punched his beta in the face. It was him who kept convincing him to meet this bitch.
Another punch.
It was him who made this bitch insult him again and again. This beta of his was not on his side. He was his enemy.
