MATED TO THE SECRET ALPHA -
Chapter 115: The Visit
Chapter 115: The Visit
"Why does Vivian come to me, instead of returning to the dungeon?" Reana asked as she took her seat at the head table, her gaze on Vivian, who stood with her head lowered.
She slowly lifted her head and tears appeared in her eyes, as she suddenly dropped to her knees. "Forgive me, Sister, I was wrong. I let my ambition cloud my judgment, and I betrayed your trust." Vivian’s voice cracked as she spoke, her words laced with desperation and remorse.
Reana’s expression remained unreadable, her eyes fixed on Vivian, "Oh? Did Vivian betray me?"
Vivian’s eyes widened, how could she pretend to not know, when Ryan and the others were said to have confessed everything?
She swallowed. If Reana wanted to play, she too would play with her. With that, Vivian nodded fervently, tears streaming down her face.
"Yes, Sister... I– I was blinded by my desire for power and status. I allowed others to manipulate me, so I conspired against you, and I’m deeply sorry for my actions." Vivian’s voice trembled, and she bowed her head, awaiting Reana’s judgment.
The air was thick with tension as Reana’s silence stretched out, her gaze piercing and unyielding. "You conspired against me with who? Ryan, your mother, or your brother, Kael... Which of them?"
Vivian’s body trembled not from fear, but rage. How dare Reana talk about her family like that?
But she couldn’t let her anger be known. As she hesitated, as if weighing her options, Reana sneered. She’d seen this scene in her vision.
"R– Ryan," she stammered, her voice barely audible. "He was... He was my boyfriend, and he promised me power and protection if I helped him overthrow you, Sister."
Vivian’s eyes darted up, filled with a mix of fear and pleading, as if hoping for mercy. "My family don’t have such intentions, Sister. They would never harm you!"
Reana’s expression remained icy, her gaze fixed on Vivian, but a flicker of anger danced in her eyes. She was already in a bad mood. She thought this little drama might help her mood get better, but alas, it was boring and it added to her frustration.
The tears, the pleas for forgiveness - it was all so fake, so... tedious. Reana’s eyes narrowed, her patience wearing thin. "Enough," she said, her voice cold and detached. "Why exactly are you here?"
Vivian was stunned, clearly not expecting this reaction from Reana. She stuttered, "I-I came to apologize, to beg for your forgiveness..."
Reana’s gaze cut her off, her expression unyielding. "Spare me the theatrics, Vivian. You’re not here to apologize. You’re here because you want something. What is it?"
"I swear, I’m here to apologize." She rose to her feet, then turned to the entrance, "Where is it, Susan?" a servant entered, holding a porcelain bottle of wine.
Vivian’s eyes lit up, and she rushed towards the servant, her hands outstretched. "Ah, perfect timing. Pour a glass for the Luna, please."
The servant hesitated, glancing at Reana, who raised an eyebrow. "What is the meaning of this, Vivian?" Reana asked, her tone dripping with skepticism.
Vivian’s smile was saccharine. "A peace offering, Sister. A rare vintage, one that I hope will help to... smooth things over between us."
"Hah..." Reana laughed, the sound sending chills down Vivian’s spine as her heart skipped a beat. The laughter was low and husky, with a hint of menace that made Vivian’s blood run cold. "Sure," she gestured to the goblet on the table.
Vivian, pretending up be calm, smiled, taking the wine from the omega as she opened it and poured some for Reana and herself.
The omega handed Reana’s goblet to her, but Reana didn’t reach out, her gaze remained fixed on Vivian.
Vivian cowered under Reana’s hard stare as she poured her own drink, her hand slightly shook, spilling a few drops on the table. "I didn’t poison it, Sister, rest assured," she smiled without lifting her head.
Reana’s gaze never wavered, her eyes boring into Vivian’s very soul. "I’m not worried about poison, Vivian," she said, her voice dripping with malice. "Because you can’t kill me even if you want to."
She took the wine from the omega, and didn’t miss the way Vivian stiffen for a split second before putting the porcelain bottle down and picking up her own goblet.
"To new beginnings, Sister," Vivian said, lifting her goblet with both hands.
Reana lazily raised an eyebrow, her gaze flicking to Vivian’s slightly trembling hands before meeting her eyes. "Indeed," Reana murmured, her voice dripping with sarcasm, as she lifted her goblet to Vivian in a mock toast.
Vivian watched as Reana tilted her head as she took a sip of the wine. Her eyes followed the movement, her gaze fixed on Reana’s lips as they touched the rim of the goblet, then her gaze trailed down to Reana’s throat, seeing it bobbing as she swallowed. Before Vivian threw her head back and downed her own wine in one swift motion, the liquid crimson spilling down her chin as she struggled to swallow.
Reana’s eyes snapped back to Vivian’s face, her eyebrows arching in surprise at the sudden, almost desperate gesture.
"It’s indeed a fine wine," Reana said, twirling the drink in her cup before taking another sip, her eyes glinting with amusement at Vivian’s obvious unease.
"Kael bought it years back for a special occasion, but I suppose it’s fitting that we’re drinking it now," Vivian smiled, but her eyes held a decree of coldness that didn’t go noticed by Reana, who drank another mouthful of the wine.
"Hm," she hmmed, "I’m sure Kael will throw a fit when he finds out we’re drinking his precious wine." Reana’s gaze snapped back to Vivian’s, her eyes glinting with a knowing spark. "But I suppose that’s the point, isn’t it, Vivian?"
Vivian suddenly chuckled, "He’s always territorial, treasuring what’s his and never willing to share."
Memories flooded Reana’s mind. Years back when they were still kids and innocent, Kael was the calm and indifferent one, like a heavenly scholar. He didn’t like the presence of people, always finding solace in books and plants. They’d thought he’d become a healer some day.
