Chapter 133: Lupin pack - 28

Silas’s POV

My minor cold was making me feel so weak. This had never happened to me before.

For a moment, I even wondered—am I infected? But when I took the test, the results confirmed that none of us were infected.

Just then, the four of them went out to talk with the doctors since they had been called.

I remained in the ward, sitting on the bed with Velric on my lap. Some doctors approached me.

"We need to draw some blood from this kid too. We can’t exclude him, even if he’s just a child."

"Okay," I agreed.

I was worried about Velric too. He was silently sitting on my lap, but the moment the doctors came closer to take his blood, he tensed up.

He was still a child, so it was understandable that he was scared. I gently cupped his cheek.

"Velric, look at me. Tell me, do you like chocolates? Or ice cream?"

"Mumma... I like both," he answered softly, his eyes meeting mine.

At that moment, the doctor quickly took his blood sample.

Once they were done, they left, but Velric winced and clutched his arm where the needle had pricked him. Unlike us adults, he couldn’t endure the pain as well.

I pressed a cotton pad to the spot, applying gentle pressure.

"Velric, does it still hurt?"

"No... Mumma... I’m fine," he mumbled.

He buried his face against my chest, his tiny hands clutching my shirt tightly. I wrapped my arm around him, rubbing his back soothingly.

"I’ll take the pain away for you, okay? Watch this."

I pretended to grab his pain in my fist and then dramatically threw it away.

"Pain, pain, fly away!"

I looked down at him, and sure enough, a small smile appeared on his lips. Just as we were settling down, soldiers suddenly entered the room.

"Hand over that kid to us," one of them ordered.

I frowned, looking up at the soldier. Hand him over? What the hell was he talking about? Velric wasn’t some kind of object.

"What do you mean?" I asked coldly.

"This kid is infected. The doctors believe he must be sent to the lab as soon as possible."

I clenched my jaw.

"What the fúck do you take me for? A fool? He’s not even showing any symptoms, and you’re telling me he’s infected? And that you need to take him to the lab?"

I glanced at Velric and gave him a reassuring smile. Then I turned back to the soldier—expressionless this time.

"And what exactly do you plan to do after taking him to the lab? Don’t tell me you’re planning to conduct research on this little kid?"

Just the thought of it made my chest tighten. But these soldiers... they felt nothing.

"Don’t waste our time. Hand over the kid. We need him at any cost."

At any cost?

I tightened my grip around Velric.

Like hell I’d listen to them. Did they really think they could scare me? Not a fucking chance. I wasn’t letting them take this kid anywhere.

"Then don’t waste your time here. Did I tell you to? You can simply leave and focus on the other patients."

I remarked coldly, glaring at the soldier.

He glared back, like he was actually considering fighting me.

Fine.I was ready to fight too. Because for Velric, I’d do anything. He was just a little kid, all alone in this place. And if I, as an adult, couldn’t protect him—then who would?

That soldier aggressively extended his hand and grabbed Velric, like he was ready to take him by force if I refused.

The strength he used was too much—too rough.

Velric winced in pain, and suddenly, right before my eyes, he shifted into his wolf form. I froze for a moment. Shit.

He must have lost control because of fear. I understood that, but shifting here—right in front of these people—was going to cause a serious problem now.

His black fur shimmered under the lights as he nestled in my arms. His blue eyes, filled with unshed tears, looked up at me with a silent plea—Don’t let me go.

Even in his true form, his tiny paws clung to my shirt, refusing to let go.

And I didn’t feel an ounce of fear from him. So, even though he had shifted, I held him tightly, just like before.

"Don’t worry, Velric. I won’t let you go."

I whispered, holding him tighter. Then, I glanced at the soldiers. Their eyes were wide—like they’d just seen a ghost.

"Capture this beast now!" one of them barked.

In an instant, all their guns were pointed at me. But even in this situation, I felt no fear.

Because I knew one thing for sure—they wouldn’t dare shoot me. If they did, it would only bring trouble for them. I was from the Bloodfang Pack. And they were all under our influence.

"What are you all waiting for? Shoot me already! Because without dying, I’m not letting anyone touch this cub."

I threatened, my voice firm.

The soldiers glanced at each other, their eyes burning red with anger.

And then—one of them stepped forward, pressing the cold barrel of his gun against my forehead.

"WHAT THE FÚCK IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING HERE?!"

The moment those words hit my ears, I quickly turned toward the door.

The four of them had arrived—Damon leading the way.

His sharp eyes scanned the scene, instantly locking onto me and the soldier pressing a gun to my forehead.

Without hesitation, Damon rushed forward, snatching the gun from the soldier’s hands and throwing it to the ground with a loud clatter.

Without a second thought, Damon grabbed the soldier by his collar, his fist already swinging back, ready to strike.

But before he could land the hit, Lysander stepped in, placing a hand on his shoulder.

Damon exhaled sharply, forcing himself to calm down. His grip loosened, and he turned to me, his eyes dark with restrained anger.

"Silas, tell me what happened here."

I met his gaze and told him everything.
