Chapter 132: Lupin pack - 27
Damon’s POV
As I started driving, I glanced back through the mirror. While moving my hand on the steering wheel, I saw that group of wolves running behind the ambulance.
Man, are they planning to chase us all the way to the airport?
I was driving as fast as I could, but those bastards were racing alongside the vehicle now. Damn, I wish they’d trip on their own legs while running. That would be hilarious if it happened. Just thinking about it makes me want to laugh.
"Damon, what are you thinking about? There’s a creepy smirk on your lips... Wait, don’t tell me you’re planning to jump out of the ambulance to save us! No, I won’t let you do this!"
Theron and his drama.
One hand on his forehead, eyes dramatically closed, and his head tilted back like he was in some tragic scene.
And what the hell was I even thinking about those wolves?
I swear, living with Kael is starting to mess with me.
People say we pick up bad habits easily, and yeah—I believe that now.
"Don’t worry, I’m not thinking of anything stupid like that."
As we talked, I glanced back and noticed the wolves were no longer behind us. Looks like they couldn’t keep up with the vehicle’s speed. But their speed wasn’t that average either, so how did they all fall behind?
Or... don’t tell me this is some kind of trap.
Just as that thought crossed my mind, the ambulance suddenly jerked like something had gotten stuck in the tire. In the next second, the entire vehicle spun out of control and crashed onto the ground.
Luckily, even though the entire ambulance crashed like that, nothing happened to me or Theron.
Theron tried to open the door, but it was stuck. The ambulance had spun, but it was standing fine now, so why was the door jammed? With one powerful kick, Theron broke the door open and jumped out. I followed right after him.
As soon as we got out, we rushed to the back and tried to open the door, but it was also stuck. However, when we both pulled together, it finally budged. And when we opened it—
Lysander and Kael were on the bed where Silas was lying, both hugging him tightly.
"Are you guys alright?"
As I asked, Lysander broke the hug and glanced at me. Kael did the same. But when they moved away from Silas, I saw that he was holding the kid tightly, shielding him—just like they had been protecting him.
We helped them climb out of the ambulance.
"Mr. Damon, look behind you."
Hearing Lysander’s voice, I quickly turned around—and there they were.
The wolves stood in front of us, watching. My eyes darted around, scanning the area. That’s when I noticed it—sharp objects scattered all over the road. I glanced back at the ambulance tire. Torn.
So that’s what happened. Those sharp objects caused this crash.
And this whole trap... was set up by those damn wolves.
And to think that so-called king told us they had no sense?
Bite me. If I find out he was fucking lying to me, he’s dead.
But right now, the main problem was these wolves. What were we going to do about them?
Just then, a white gas started to spread through the air. As soon as those wolves sniffed it, they all collapsed to the ground.
But that gas didn’t affect any of us.
And just then, the military arrived.
"I’m sorry, Your Highness. We are late," one of the soldiers said, bowing to me.
"It’s alright. But this gas... and did you find the antidote?"
"No, Your Highness. We don’t know anything," the soldier replied.
Just then, some soldiers arrived, carrying a massive cage. One by one, they started throwing the wolves inside—like they were nothing more than trash.
We were safe now. I glanced around to check if anyone was hurt, but thankfully, everyone was fine. That was a relief.
"By the way, where are you taking them? And what are you planning to do with them?" I asked, watching the way they handled the wolves.
Because honestly, the way they were tossing them inside that cage... it was like they were dumping garbage.
"We will imprison them for now, and after that, they’ll be sent to the lab."
"And, Your Highness... were you perhaps heading to the airport?"
Hearing that, I pressed my glasses up with my middle finger and took a step forward toward the soldier.
"Care to tell me how you know where we were going? Because this is the first time I’m meeting you, isn’t it? So how exactly did you find out?"
I focused on his expression as I spoke. The moment he heard my question, he quickly made eye contact with me.
"Your Highness, I just guessed... because this road leads to the airport, that’s all," he replied.
I kept my eyes on him even after hearing his answer. Something felt off.
And since I’ve taken this pack under my influence, it’s my duty to protect the people who live here.
I was just about to leave, but not anymore.
Just then, I noticed the soldier’s expression—he looked like he wanted to say something.
"Your Highness, why don’t you get checked to see if you’re infected? People are shifting not just from bite marks—we still don’t know all the details. It would be best if you got tested."
Well, there’s nothing wrong with checking if we’re infected or not.
So, I nodded.
After that, we all got into the military bus, just like when we came here.
They took us to a different hospital where people were being tested.
There were a lot of people when we arrived. I glanced around, making sure none of us got left behind.
And when we went inside, they drew a small sample of our blood for the test.
I knew we weren’t infected, but I still took the test. When our results came out, it confirmed that we weren’t infected.
Since Silas was weak from the fever, the doctor examined him. It turned out he only had a cold. He was now sitting on the bed, holding the kid on his lap.
The doctors wanted to discuss something with us four brothers, so we all stepped out of the ward to talk with them.
