Chapter 131: Lupin pack - 26
Damon’s POV
We have noticed that Silas looks pale. Instead, I regret my decision to send Silas here, so we are taking him back to our pack.
I settled into the driver’s seat. Even though I had never driven an ambulance before, I knew I could do this.
Without wasting any time, I pressed the accelerator and started the ambulance.
It was surprisingly easy to drive—so smooth that I felt like a professional ambulance driver who had been doing this 24/7.
As I was driving, I could hear murmuring from behind. I knew they were talking, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying.
Lost in my thoughts, I focused on driving, having already memorized the route to the airport.
Just then, I saw a group of wolves standing ahead. They were attacking someone—around 15 or 20 wolves, all biting a single person.
Seeing that, I quickly pressed the brakes and stopped the ambulance.
I knew that if the sound reached those wolves’ ears, they would pounce on us like hungry beasts.
From what that man told us, these wolves had lost all sense of reason.
They were completely gone—driven only by a single instinct: to eat.
It was just like the zombies we had seen in movies.
Through the small window, I glanced behind. Silas was still lying there, while my three brothers sat nearby. That little kiddo was there too.
As soon as they realized the ambulance had stopped, Theron stood up from his seat and knocked on the window.
When he saw me looking back at him, he frowned.
"Damon, why did you stop? Don’t tell me you’re thinking of changing seats now... Don’t even think about it, ’cause I’m not driving!"
"Can you be serious and look ahead? Our ’friends’ are having their lunch."
As I said that, Theron glanced forward and finally noticed the wolves. Without hesitation, he opened the back door of the ambulance.
My eyes widened, and everyone inside panicked, thinking we had arrived.
But before anyone could ask what he was doing, he quickly shut the door again and came to sit beside me.
"What was that?! You know that was dangerous! What if any of those wolves had seen you? And what if you couldn’t close the door in time? Before doing anything reckless, think twice!"
Hearing me, Theron properly shut the door with a loud thud. Luckily, the wolves didn’t hear it since they were too busy eating.
I guess we’ll have to wait here... because I don’t want to fight anymore.
Folding my arms, I rested them on the steering wheel, then leaned down, placing my chin on my hands.
It was so boring just sitting there, watching those wolves eat.
If that person had been alive when we arrived, we might have been able to save him. But by the time I saw him, he was already dead.
With that many bites—once they tear you apart—no one survives.
But they were taking longer than usual. Normally, when a wolf hunts its prey, it doesn’t take more than five minutes.
What the hell are they doing? Are they even eating him or not?
These questions kept running through my mind.
Even though hunting was banned over 500 years ago, some people still did it—capturing lower-rank wolves and releasing them into the forest just to hunt them down. It was horrifying, and I was never into that kind of thing.
I know a few people who have invited me to join, saying, "We’re the big pack, we should do this. We’re the most powerful."
But just because we’re powerful doesn’t give us the right to play with someone else’s life.
Theron was also getting bored—he had leaned back against his seat, just staring at the wolves.
After five minutes, the wolves finally moved away from the body.
Theron and I kept our eyes on the person, expecting to see nothing but remains. But suddenly, that person sat up.
His body wasn’t torn apart—he only had a few bite marks on his neck and chest.
And then, right before our eyes, he changed.
He shifted into a wolf.
"Woah, so this is how they’re increasing their population," Theron said.
Just then, those wolves turned toward us and started walking in our direction.
I quickly told everyone to stay silent, not to make a sound.
I knew they could see us, but their senses were all messed up. It’s not like they were going to eat an ambulance. And even if they tried, their teeth would break before they could do any real damage.
As they got closer, they simply passed by. A few of them glanced at the ambulance, but none of them reacted—they just kept walking.
I let out a sigh of relief, glad we didn’t have to fight them.
But just then, something jumped onto the ambulance, shaking it so hard that the whole vehicle rattled.
"What was that?" I murmured.
I quickly glanced at the mirror and saw that the wolves hadn’t left—they had simply moved behind us to jump onto the ambulance.
That meant they did see us.
But didn’t that man say their senses were completely gone? Was he lying to us?
I’ll have to teach him a lesson later.
Right now, we have to deal with these wolves.
"Damon, what do you think? Should I go out and teach those wolves a lesson?" Theron asked with a creepy smile on his face.
"Control yourself. Do you want to expose your ability in front of everyone? If not, then stay calm. I’m sure there’s a way."
And there was a way—one that was ridiculously simple.
I just had to drive at full speed.
I knew the wolves would chase us even if we tried to run, but still, I started the engine.
The moment it roared to life, I suddenly heard more wolves howling.
Great. Looks like I’ve caught some extra attention.
But I didn’t care about these uninvited guests—I just stepped on the gas and drove.
