Chapter 127: Lupin pack - 22

Silas’s POV

"Little fighter... You have great eyes. Do you want to know how it feels to float in the air?"

Now, Theron is going to create more stories since Velric has shown interest in them.

"Yes, Daddy, of course!"

"Shorty, give that little fighter to me."

I hand Velric over to Theron, and as soon as he grabs him, he starts spinning him around in the air, holding him by the waist. Velric giggles loudly as he spins, his laughter was echoing in my ears . I guess he’s happy.

As we stood there, listening to Velric’s giggling, his laughter suddenly started to echo in my ears, muting all the surrounding sounds. All I could hear was his giggle. A strange feeling washed over me, and I instinctively turned my head toward Theron to see if he was experiencing the same thing.

Theron was saying something to Velric while laughing, but all I could see were his lips moving—his voice never reached my ears. Only the giggles echoed. For a moment, it felt like I had gone deaf or as if I were trapped in some kind of dream.

I covered both my ears with my hands because I didn’t want to hear that giggling anymore—it had turned terrifying.

Without realizing it, my knees gave out, and I dropped down. Yet, the giggles still echoed in my ears.

Then, I suddenly felt a touch on my shoulder. I opened my eyes, which I had clenched tightly shut, and saw Theron and Velric standing in front of me. Both of their faces were filled with worry.

Their lips were moving, I could see that, but I couldn’t hear them. Velric was no longer giggling—he just stared at me with a concerned expression. But those giggles, the ones I had thought belonged to Velric, were still echoing in my ears.

And then, all at once, I could hear everything again.

"Shorty, what happened? Can you hear me?"

"Mumma, are you okay? Are your legs hurting?"

As their words reached my ears, I sighed in relief. I had truly thought I might never be able to hear again. But I could hear—everything.

Still, I couldn’t shake off that eerie feeling. The fear of being deaf lingered in my mind. Even as the two of them spoke to me, their voices reaching my ears, I couldn’t bring myself to respond. My mouth wouldn’t open.

Then, suddenly, Theron shook me hard, snapping me out of my daze. That was when I realized—it had all been in my head.

"Shorty, how come you tripped on your own feet while walking?"

When did I trip? I remember just standing still, and when I heard those giggles, my legs weakened, and I dropped to my knees. But when did I actually fall down?

I extended my hand and grabbed Theron’s. His hand was warm. As I glanced up at him while holding it, he suddenly pulled me up with one hand and effortlessly picked me up in his arms, carrying me bridal style.

But instead of resisting, I wrapped my arms around his neck. Because the moment I touched him, all those strange feelings vanished, and a sense of calm washed over me.

"Shorty, you know you have a high fever right now."

Huh? Fever? What is he saying?

Wait... I have a high fever? So that’s why I’ve been feeling so strange since earlier?

"You’re literally burning right now."

I guess my fever was getting worse because I started feeling pain all over my body. I didn’t know what was happening to me today—why I was feeling this strange. Then, I noticed the sky; it looked like it was going to snow again.

Wait... I got a fever because I was out in the heavy snowfall for too long.

As Theron walked, he suddenly stopped. I glanced around to see why, and that’s when I saw an ambulance parked in front of us. Theron gently placed me inside.

As soon as I lay down, my body felt light, as if it had been ages since I last rested like this.

My eyes closed on their own, and when I opened them, I saw doctors examining me. Then, my eyes shut again, and when I opened them once more, I saw Theron talking with a doctor outside the ambulance.

Just then, I felt a tiny hand on my forehead. I flinched and quickly looked up—Velric was sitting near my head. He was the one who had touched me.

"Mumma, are you sick?"

"Not at all, Velric. I’m totally fine. It’s just a mere fever."

I knew that whenever I got a fever, it would go away in just two days. Having a fever was no big deal.

"Don’t worry about me, Velric," I said softly.

Just then, Theron got into the ambulance and sat beside me. The ambulance was big enough to fit more than four or five people. After sitting down, Theron gently held my hand.

"The doctor said your fever is serious, but if you rest, you’ll get better in no time."

When Theron said my fever was serious, my heart skipped a beat. For a second, I thought the doctor had told him I was going to die soon. But here he was, still joking around.

I turned my head in the other direction instead of looking at Theron and closed my eyes to avoid him. I knew that if I pretended to rest, he wouldn’t talk to me—and that’s exactly what happened.

But even though my eyes were closed, he was still sitting beside me.

And just then, a whisper reached my ear.

"Little fighter, why the sad face?"

"Mumma is sick because of me, right?"

"Of course not."

Yes, I’m not sick because of Velric at all. It’s just the weather, of course. I just hope Velric doesn’t blame himself for my fever.

Because I know that little guy tends to overthink things, which isn’t good.

And just then, I heard—

"Shorty, why don’t you open your eyes if you can’t sleep?"
