Chapter 123: Lupin pack - 18

Silas’s POV

I grabbed Kael’s hand and stood up. The wolf was still lying on the ground, but we knew the moment we moved, he would come after us.

Without wasting time, we dashed toward the desk where Velric was sitting.

But just as we were about to reach him, the wolf suddenly sprang to his feet and let out a deafening howl.

His deep, guttural growl echoed through the entire hospital, sending shivers down my spine.

I risked a glance behind us. The wolf was only a few meters away. And then—he jumped.

I knew that once he leaped, he would attack someone—me or Kael. And Velric was right there. I had no time to think, no time to react logically. My instincts kicked in.

I grabbed the kid and pulled him into my arms, shielding him with my body. If that wolf was going to bite, then let it be me. As long as Velric was safe.

Tightly shutting my eyes, I screamed, "Run, Kael!"

But then—two howls echoed through the room.

I hesitated, my breath hitching. Slowly, without breaking my protective hold on Velric, I loosened my grip just enough to glance up.

A massive white and silver wolf stood there. His fur shimmered under the dim hospital lights, his piercing blue eyes glowing with an almost otherworldly presence.

And he was much bigger than the other wolf.

Then it hit me—Kael had been standing right there. And now, instead of Kael, there was this wolf.

Which meant... Kael had shifted.

But how?

Was Kael also infected? Had he been bitten too? How did I not notice? Or... was he hiding it all along?

Right in front of my eyes, the two wolves clashed in a brutal fight.

It was an unimaginable battle—pure, raw aggression. I glanced around, but the hospital was completely empty now. Everyone had fled. The only ones left were me, Velric, Kael, and the other wolf.

Kael, now in his wolf form, fought with terrifying strength. Their snarls and growls filled the air, their claws tearing at each other. It was a fight to the death. For a moment, I thought one of them wouldn’t survive.

But then—suddenly—the other wolf collapsed.

Kael had knocked him out.

Slowly, Kael turned toward me and Velric. His piercing gaze locked onto me, sending a cold tremor down my spine. His entire presence radiated dominance, an aura meant to instill fear.

I swallowed hard, about to say something—

But before I could, Kael suddenly staggered and collapsed. His body shifted back into human form as he hit the ground, unconscious.

Thank God his clothes were still intact after shifting back. How? I had no idea, but I wasn’t about to question it now.

I quickly put Velric down from the desk and rushed to Kael’s side.

I tapped his cheek, my voice urgent.

"Hey, are you alright? Kael? Wake up!"

Kael didn’t wake up. He wasn’t even responding to me.

I shook him lightly, calling his name over and over, but there was no reaction.

Even Velric ran over, his small hands tugging at Kael’s sleeve as he called out, "Papa! Wake up!"

But Kael remained unconscious.

There were no soldiers in the hospital—they had all followed the king and his son.

That meant no one had seen Kael shift into a wolf. If they had... it would have been a huge deal.

I didn’t have any other choice. I couldn’t just leave Kael like this.

So, I grabbed his arm and struggled to lift him up. He was heavy—as heavy as a mountain. Still, I forced myself to support his weight, draping his arm over my shoulders.

Walking was difficult, every step a struggle, but I kept moving forward, helping him as best as I could.

Velric, determined to help, grabbed Kael’s other hand and walked beside us. Though his small strength didn’t make much of a difference, I didn’t have the heart to tell him that.

Instead, I gave him an encouraging smile, nodding as if to say, Yes, you’re doing great.

As we struggled forward, I spotted an elevator.

Thank God.

Without hesitation, we stepped inside. The moment the doors closed, I let out a small breath of relief. At least I didn’t have to drag Kael down the stairs.

When we finally stepped out of the hospital, I saw something unexpected—

A large number of soldiers and buses had just arrived.

Now? Now they were here?

Everything had already happened. The danger was over. The wolf was unconscious inside. And the one who had saved us all?

It was Kael.

If he hadn’t stepped in, I would have died back there. And who knows—maybe everyone in the hospital would have been slaughtered too.

I carefully placed Kael onto a chair—he was still unconscious.

Staying by his side, I glanced around, hoping to spot a doctor. But there was no one.

Just then, I saw Shine running toward me, accompanied by the soldier who had helped us before.

"Silas! Are you okay? You’re not hurt anywhere, right? And what happened to Kael?" Shine asked, his voice filled with worry.

I could tell he was genuinely concerned.

"I don’t know," I replied. "He just collapsed like this. Can you call a doctor?"

Of course, I couldn’t tell him the truth—that Kael had shifted into his wolf form and collapsed when he shifted back.

Thanks to that soldier, a doctor was finally called.

Without wasting time, the doctor had Kael moved into an ambulance since the hospital was now off-limits. The soldiers were busy securing the area and capturing the unconscious wolf inside.

With the hospital restricted, doctors had started treating patients outside, using ambulances as makeshift medical stations.

Kael’s ambulance was parked in the corner, away from the chaos. The doctor examined him carefully, and after a moment, I finally got an answer.

"He just collapsed from exhaustion. He’ll wake up soon. Nothing serious."

Hearing that, I let out a breath I didn’t realize I was holding.

Velric was standing beside me, holding my hand tightly.

Now that I knew Kael was fine, I finally turned my attention to Velric.
