Chapter 122: Lupin pack - 17

Silas’s POV

I was listening silently since it wasn’t my place to say anything. But when that kid suddenly started warning the prince of the Lupin Pack, I couldn’t hold myself back. I had to speak up.

"Velric, come here."

As I spoke, Kael also glanced at me. When Velric looked in my direction, I made a serious face—kids shouldn’t talk to their elders like that, especially not for Kael, who wasn’t even his father.

I don’t know anything about being his mother, but I can’t abandon this kid. Who knows what might happen to him if I do?

"Mumma, are you angry at me? Did I do something wrong?"

His cute voice and innocent face were practically begging me to let it go, to allow him to do whatever he wanted.

But I had already made up my mind. Once we return to the Bloodfang Pack, I’ll do a paternity test to find out if he’s really my son or if I’m just getting caught up in my own imagination.

"Velric... Is this how you talk to adults now? Do you think that guy is your age or something?"

As I spoke, Velric grabbed Kael’s hand.

"Papa, Mumma is angry at me."

Seriously? What does he expect Kael to do, even if I am angry? Does he really think Kael can calm me down? Obviously not. No one can calm me down when I’m angry.

"Don’t beat around the bush and come to me right now, or else I’m not going to talk to you."

I knew that if I said something like this, he would come to me right away.

And just then...

"I think I should leave from here."

That guy left. I took Velric from Kael and stepped out of the room, with Kael following behind.

As we exited the waiting room, I glanced around. There were so many patients—too many. But the soldiers were all following the king.

Of course, they had to protect him. That’s why they all went with the king and his son, escorting them to their mansion.

I placed Velric on the desk since no one was sitting there. Because...of this disaster...

"Mumma, are you mad at me?"

My eyes were drifting around when I suddenly heard Velric’s voice. I glanced at him. He was looking at me with those big, adorable eyes.

I stepped closer to the desk, placing my hands beside him as I leaned forward.

"Where did you learn to talk like that?"

"What do you mean?... Mumma?"

"The way you were talking to that guy—who taught you that?"

"Daddies."

Daddies? Is he saying he has multiple dads? Like, does he call Kael Papa and have other dads too? Or is he talking about Kael and his real dad? I don’t understand anything.

"Mumma, where are the daddies?"

How would I know where his daddies are? I don’t even know who his parents are. So how could I possibly know where his daddies are?

"Umm, Velric, do you remember what your dad looked like? I mean... your parents?"

"Mumma, they’re all handsome."

Sigh. I don’t think this kid can help me find out anything about his parents.

Just then, Kael stepped forward and leaned on the desk beside us.

He reached out his hand to Velric, offering it for the kid to play with, and Velric happily grabbed it, giggling as he played.

Watching him smile like that, a small warmth spread through my heart. When I glanced at Kael, I realized he was already looking at me.

His eyes were fixed on my face, making me uncomfortable. I averted my gaze, glancing around to avoid his intense stare.

That’s when I noticed a familiar soldier standing in the corner—the one I had seen back at the villa. He was trying to cover his bite mark again.

His face looked deathly pale, and his body seemed frail. Without thinking, I took a step toward him. The closer I got, the worse he looked.

I had a strong feeling he might be infected, but he hadn’t turned into a wolf yet. I couldn’t be sure. Still, if he was infected, we needed to isolate him before it was too late.

I knew approaching him was risky. He had a bite mark. He could turn at any moment.

But if I ignored him and he transformed suddenly, he could attack everyone here—including Velric.

"Excuse me, are you alright?"

At my question, the soldier slowly lifted his head and looked at me. His lips were dry and cracked, his eyes void of life.

His entire body was trembling, despite the fact that there was no cold in the hospital.

"I... I feel weird... I don’t know... I feel like... I’m going to die."

The soldier’s trembling voice barely made it out. Hearing him, I quickly glanced around, searching for a doctor to examine him.

But there was no one. When I turned back to him, my heart dropped—he was already transforming.

Before I could react, his body twisted and shifted in mere seconds. Then, with a monstrous growl, he lunged straight at me.

The sound of his transformation and his piercing howl sent shockwaves through the hospital.

Panic erupted. Patients screamed and ran in every direction, desperate to escape.

They pushed past me in a frantic rush, trampling over each other in their attempts to flee.

But not a single one stopped to help me. Everyone only cared about saving themselves.

My hands pressed against the wolf’s chest, desperately trying to push him away.

But he was too strong. His mouth opened wide, fangs gleaming, ready to sink into me.

In a last attempt, I grabbed his jaw from underneath, using every ounce of my strength to hold him back.

But it was useless—I was no match for him. My strength failed me.

I could feel death creeping closer.

Just as his teeth were about to tear into me—bam!

A powerful kick sent the wolf flying off me.

When I looked up to see who it was, I saw Kael.

He extended his hand toward me, his eyes filled with concern.

"Are you all right?" he asked.
