Chapter 120: Lupin pack - 15

Kael’s POV

From last night, ever since I first saw that kid—what was his name again? Yes, Velric—I’ve had this strange feeling.

Like I’ve seen him somewhere before. That feeling kept lingering in the back of my mind.

But another part of me kept insisting—No, he’s not an ordinary kid.

He could be one of them, one of the wolves that would eventually get infected like the others.

And yet, when I woke up, Shine and the others were already there, rescuing us.

I glanced at the kid, expecting something unusual, but he looked completely normal. Just a freezing, helpless child on the brink of death.

When we brought him here to the hospital, for some reason, he kept clinging to Silas.

Even while the doctor was checking silas, he was literally sitting near Silas’ legs, clutching onto him.

Later, I even caught him sneaking under Silas’ blanket, curling up against his feet while sleeping.

Maybe he just misses his parents—that’s why he’s calling Silas his mom.

But what truly shocked me was when he called me his father.

Like, what?!

I don’t know. He’s so small—it’s not like anyone could’ve taught him that. Unless... Silas did? But I can’t say anything for sure. Anything is possible.

And then, just as I was about to leave with the king, he suddenly burst into tears, crying and calling me his father.

And now, when I denied that he was my son—that I wasn’t his father—he suddenly started crying even harder. His face turned red, and no matter what, he wouldn’t calm down. Even when Silas tried to soothe him, it didn’t work.

Watching Velric cry like that made my chest tighten with an unfamiliar pain.

Without thinking twice, I stepped forward, took him from Silas, and hugged him.

The moment I held him close and gently patted his back, his sobbing stopped—just like that.

When I looked at his face, it was as if he had never cried at all. He was smiling.

He hugged me back, wrapping his tiny arms around my neck.

"Papa, I’m so happy," he whispered while giggling.

Suddenly, he gave me a small peck on the cheek.

"I love you, Papa," he said with a bright smile.

For some reason, just hearing that from a kid made me feel... happy.

But I couldn’t let this misunderstanding continue. "Ric... you can’t call me Papa, okay? I’m your uncle, not your father."

I tried to explain it to him. The way he behaved, I could tell he was a smart kid—he would understand.

Or so I thought.

The moment I said that, his eyes turned teary in an instant.

Great. He’s about to cry again.

And if he started, I knew he wouldn’t stop.

"I was kidding, just kidding! Ric, you can call me whatever you want," I quickly said, surrendering to the inevitable.

What else could I do? He wasn’t going to listen to me anyway. So, I gave up on trying to correct him.

And just like that, he became happy again, his teary eyes instantly lighting up with joy.

" Prince Kael, if you’re done, should we leave? This matter is very urgent."

Hearing that, my attention shifted to the man speaking, while the kid remained in my arms. I glanced at Silas.

"Silas, can you hold him? I have to leave now."

But the kid wasn’t ready to let go. His tiny fists clutched my clothes so tightly, as if his life depended on it. Wow.

If I used my strength to pull him away, he’d definitely start crying again.

And if he cried too much, who knows? He might end up getting sick. Then Silas would blame me, saying it was my fault.

Since he refused to let go, I had no other choice.

"Silas, let’s go."

I took both of them with me.

As we left the room and stepped into the waiting area, the man’s son closed the door behind us.

I took a seat, and the kid in my arms immediately started waving his tiny hands at Silas, signaling him to sit beside me.

Even in this situation, he was acting differently—almost like he was trying to matchmake me with Silas.

I didn’t say anything. I just sat there, curious to see what this little troublemaker would do next.

The man and his son sat across from us on the sofa. As they settled in, I suddenly noticed the son smiling at me.

I knew he was flirting, but I didn’t really care. However, his smile quickly vanished, replaced by a sudden look of anger.

He was glaring in the kid’s direction. Curious, I followed his gaze—only to find the kid glaring right back at him.

And not just glaring. The little guy was making a hand gesture, as if he was threatening to gouge the boy’s eyes out. Seriously?

Did this tiny kid really think he had the strength to intimidate someone so much bigger than him?

"So, what is happening here? Care to explain?"

At my question, the man hesitated for a moment but then spilled the whole tea.

Turns out, it was entirely their fault.

In the scientific research lab, they had been experimenting with shifting.

Normally, we can only shift during a full moon, and it’s impossible on any other day. But in that lab, they were researching a way to shift anytime, anywhere—at will.

I’m not saying their research was wrong. If they had succeeded, it would have been groundbreaking. But they failed.

And now, the people they experimented on have turned into some kind of zombies.

It’s like a virus, spreading through wolf bites.

They didn’t know what to do, so they kept it hidden. But what they didn’t realize was that one of the test subjects had escaped from the lab.

And after escaping, that wolf went on a rampage—literally eating people.

Anyone he bit or devoured turned into the same kind of monster.

Now, they’re desperately trying to capture these wolves, but it’s already out of control.

There were only five test subjects in the lab at first, but now half of the pack is infected.
