Chapter 112: Lupin pack - 7

Silas’s POV

I thought something felt off, but nothing was actually wrong. We came home, and nothing happened.

After arriving, we placed the food on our plates and started eating the fried chicken. It was incredibly delicious—almost as if I hadn’t eaten it in ages.

While eating, we didn’t talk. Not a single word. We just ate in silence.

After we finished eating, Shine was exhausted. Since he hadn’t taken his usual afternoon nap, he eventually went back to his room to rest.

I took the dishes to the kitchen and started washing them. As I scrubbed, my mind kept wandering.

Thoughts kept popping up—what was that shadow? And was that blood or just water on the road?

I couldn’t help but dwell on those things, even though I knew it was just my imagination.

There was nothing there. Still... the thoughts kept circling in my mind as I washed the dishes.

When I stepped out of the kitchen, I noticed Kael was still sitting in his chair.

Why hadn’t he gone to his room? Was he waiting for me? No, of course not.

He was probably just sitting there because he didn’t feel like moving after eating. Or something like that.

I glanced at him and was about to walk past when he suddenly grabbed my hand. I turned back to look at him.

I didn’t say a word, but my eyes spoke volumes—What are you doing? Why are you holding my hand?

"How dare you ignore me and leave without saying anything?"

What does he even want me to say? Should I greet him with Hello, Your Majesty or something ridiculous like that? Why is he acting stupid again?

I know he just wants to pick a fight, but I’m not going to give him what he wants. If I stay silent, there won’t be an argument to begin with.

"Let go of my hand right now if you don’t want another slap from me. And it would be better if you watch your behavior. I don’t want to argue with you again and again like a child."

But instead of letting go, he suddenly pulled me onto his lap. Caught off guard, I tried to stand up, but he wrapped his arm around my stomach and held me down.

"Have you gone insane? Let me go right now!"

"Do you see the difference in our strength?" he smirked.

"I’m only using about 30% of my strength, and you still can’t get up. So, if I were to slap you, what do you think would happen to your cheek?"

Wait, what? He’s saying he’s using 30% of his strength, and I can’t get up? What an idiot.

I wasn’t even using my strength. If I had, I would’ve gotten up easily. I just didn’t want to hit him again.

But I guess I’ll have to show him how powerful I really am.

Without hesitation, I slammed my elbow into his stomach and got up from his lap.

"Oh? Looks like your 30% strength wore out, old man."

"You dare call me old man again? Do you have a death wish?"

I snickered at his words.

"I don’t have a death wish, old man, but I think you do."

No matter how many times I decide not to fight with him, not to argue, he always finds a way to provoke me.

He either does something or says something that pisses me off, and we end up fighting. Every. Single. Time.

"You should be grateful. I sat here waiting for you while you were washing the dishes so you wouldn’t feel lonely. And what did you do when you came out? You ignored me and were about to leave."

Wait... what? Where is this even coming from? He was waiting for me? So I wouldn’t feel lonely?

I just don’t get him. One moment, he’s looking for a fight, and the next, he’s saying things like this.

What does he even want? Seriously, this guy is impossible to understand.

"Hold on a moment. Why are you suddenly trying to be nice to me? Can you explain?"

It’s really suspicious. Just ten minutes ago, we were fighting. Maybe half an hour ago at most. Nothing has changed in that short time, so why is he suddenly acting all nice?

"Can’t I just be nice? Or do you only like it when I swear at you?" he smirked.

"Old man, do you want me to curse you? If not, then please don’t mess with me. It’s already past midnight. Shine is resting, so let’s save the fighting for tomorrow."

Hearing me, he remained silent, which meant he agreed with what I said.

After that, I turned off the kitchen light and was about to step onto the stairs when I noticed him standing up as well. Obviously, he lived upstairs too, so he was heading up now.

I decided to go upstairs faster, skipping two steps at a time while climbing.

Just then, we heard a knock on the door.

The sudden knock made my heart skip a beat. I was startled.

My eyes stayed fixed on the door. Who could it be at this hour? It was already past midnight—definitely not a time for anyone to be visiting.

Even if it was a human, who could it possibly be?

Did a neighbor come? But why would they show up in the middle of the night? If they wanted to greet us, they would’ve come in the morning. I was sure of that.

Still, I came down the stairs and walked over to the door. As I grabbed the handle, ready to open it, a hand suddenly stopped me from behind.

"Hey, step aside. I’ll check who it is."

Hearing Kael, I moved back, but my back bumped into his chest.

"Sorry," I mumbled, quickly stepping aside.

Kael moved in front of me, gripping the handle. He opened the door slightly, and when he did, Our eyes widened, and we froze at the sight before us...
