Chapter 38: I Might Break Your Heart
Chapter 38: I Might Break Your Heart
Drevon instantly halted his steps. It took a minute before he veered his gaze to me; he uttered no words of reply.
"Careful, my liege. I might break your heart," I said before sealing a kiss on his lips.
I threaded my fingers in his hair, letting my mouth taste his blissfully, and then Drevon kissed me back, not in a haste, slow until it stole my breath away.
The sensual stir of our lips sent powerful shivers up my spine to the back of my head, a moan buzzing from my throat.
This wasn’t just a kiss; it felt like he was stealing a bit of my soul from me and transforming it into something unfamiliar. Simple words couldn’t describe how this one moment felt.
I pulled my lips moist away, just an inch, allowing myself to breathe. My eyes were on his glistening under the moonlight, and then they came for mine again, far deeper this time, but passionate, as if he wanted to detail every feel and softness.
I allowed him control, caving entirely to the weight of his vigor transcribing through the skillful movement of his lips.
He was a wicked kisser. The kind that makes you hunger more when you have no idea what you might get. Whereas at this point, all my reasoning and warnings shut down, allowing myself this one cheat.
His tongue worked its way into my mouth, lining my teeth and fondling with my tongue. I felt something warm and slick sliding down the corner of my lip as the our motions intensified.
My hand stroked the back of his neck, carrying some of the outgrown strands of his silky hair before digging fully into it, gripping when he angled his head just to deepen our advances.
Drevon suddenly readjusted me in his arms, and I slipped down to his massive frame, my legs locking tightly around his waist.
In a heartbeat, our lips locked again, slower, until it felt like we were just feeling lips out of covetousness, even though we both needed to catch our breath.
My grip tightened against his broad shoulders when my back met the wall, and Drevon blessed me with wet kisses on my chin, down to my neck, lingering there, and my body flinched.
I moaned as the strangest feeling swept my body, and suddenly the urge to have his mouth everywhere was deeply overwhelming.
"Goddess..." he purred. "The sound you make." He licked through my neck, and I melted beyond reckoning, my breath shuddering until it became difficult to breathe.
His kisses brushed my collarbones, which were always so prominent, and I was conscious of them. I wanted to tell him to stop, but the way he trailed gentle kisses to the bone, lingering, sucking and licking, I found myself awed.
My mouth came apart as the back of my head met the cold wall behind, my grip tightened further until my nails hurt. One of his hands traced my bodice, stopping just to cup one part of my breast.
His warm hand glided up, stopping just where my chest pulsed as if to measure my heartbeat.
I felt his lips on my throat, smooching up to my chin before grazing on my lips as he watched me with an intensity that almost made my entire vision go black.
"If I keep going, Eloise, I might not be able to control myself for much longer," he confessed, huskily.
I tried to speak, but I just shuddered in response, unable to catch my breath. A coiling sensation squeezing my insides.
"Eloise?" he asked, worried, cupping my cheeks.
My eyes stung as I tried so hard to focus on breathing, but I couldn’t. It was too difficult.
"Eloise."
I moved my glassy eyes to his, but I was tempted to look away, but he wouldn’t let me.
"Focus on me, on my voice. Breathe with me."
And so I did, trying to count through my breathing, until I could finally expel air properly.
"I-I think it’s the wine."
"I told you not to take too much."
"Or maybe you’re the problem."
His eyes softened. "That’s not fair."
I covered my mouth as the urge to vomit came forth like a wave, and I was this close to smearing everywhere with watery fluids if Drevon hadn’t grabbed a vase and positioned it.
I dropped to my knees and let out what had been thrashing to break free. I braced my hand on the vase and buried my face into it to relieve myself.
I felt Drevon’s hand stroking my back, making it easier for me.
I have never taken wine before; this night was my first time, and greed had made me take too much despite not having anything to eat. Gods! I felt horrible, and my vomiting spree is yet to be over.
What will be left of me after I finish? I would certainly dissolve into dust.
I couldn’t register when I was done until I felt something soft wiping my lips, and I opened my eyes. Drevon was using a handkerchief to clean my mouth. He doesn’t look disgusted at all.
Gods! He was the most confusing man I have ever met!
I looked away in shame, my humiliation knows no bounds. If Drevon hadn’t acted quickly, what would have been a passionate kiss would have turned into a disaster.
It was already a disaster.
"Eloise?"
"Please don’t make this worse for me and go away," I muttered, eyeing the vase. "Just look at it. It’s all ruined now."
"How’s the vase the pressing issue?"
I snapped my gaze to him. "Then what is? I have tainted what’s worth a fortune, aren’t you angry?"
He rested his elbow on his kneecap and leaned toward me. "Something like this can’t make me angry."
"Then what can? Maybe I’ll die in peace when I finally see you get furious."
He chuckled. "Trust me, Eloise, you don’t want to see that side."
I tipped my head. "I attended the ball without your knowledge."
"I never wanted you to, but your attendance made my night."
"I kissed you and almost threw up all over you."
He leaned closer until our faces were inches apart. "Kiss me again."
This damn beast! Was there truly nothing that could make him angry?
"You’re far more alien than I thought."
