Chapter 88: 24 episodes Ice and Fire_2

Deluo, surprised, touched the Mage’s skin but didn’t feel any unusual heat. Lynch’s skin felt just like a regular person’s, not hot to the touch. Nimo grabbed another handful of snow, wanting to place it on Lynch’s forehead, but like the frost before, the snow dissipated before it made contact.

The Dwarf took a handful of snow and rubbed it on his own face. He clearly felt the sensation of cold snowflakes hanging on his face, and the snow didn’t disappear.

Deluo couldn’t understand what was happening and was unwilling to burden himself with pondering such a mysterious event. Since the snow would melt, there must still be a high level of heat accumulating in Lynch’s body. So, he lifted the Mage’s body and walked deeper into the icy tunnel.

Lynch finally climbed to the top of the hill. He straightened his back, exhaled softly, and rubbed his sore muscles.

Suddenly, a gust of cold wind came, almost knocking the unprepared Mage back down the slope. With this gust of wind, the darkness on the horizon was swept away. Lynch rubbed his eyes hard and looked again at the emerging gray world.

This was a colorless world. The horizon in front of him was an absolute white, while the world behind him remained pitch black. He looked down at his own hands and feet, which were a mix of black and white.

Below the slope in front of him were five gray iron cages. In four of the cages, something seemed to be glinting with a white light.

He quickly ran down and stood in front of the five cages. Only then did he see clearly that inside the cages were four books. The doors of the first two cages were half-open, and he could reach inside for the scrolls. As soon as he grabbed the first book, a glowing red Fireball appeared in the sky of this world, emitting heat that gradually drove away the cold around Lynch.

Lynch took out the second book, and the whole world suddenly regained its color: a few white clouds drifted across the blue sky, green grass covered the yellow earth, and his Mage Robe reappeared in its familiar black and purple hue.

The third cage had no door at all; Lynch looked up and down, left and right, for a long time, but still couldn’t find a way to open it. The book inside emitted rainbow-like light, quietly floating in the middle of the cage, beyond the reach of the Mage.

The fourth cage was completely empty, with no books, only a swirling black gas mass. Tiny bright points were scattered throughout the black mist, slowly turning.

The last cage was tightly closed, with a scroll inside emitting a blue glow.

When Lynch looked down at the two books in his hand, he was surprised to find that the cover of one read "Arcane Secret Scroll," and the other "Creation Law." As he flipped open the pages, both books suddenly vanished from his hands.

He frowned, beginning to ponder the strange happenings here. The two scrolls that disappeared were the greatest aid in restoring his spell-casting abilities—the Ancient Magic Scrolls. Moreover, according to the "Arcane Secret Scroll" records, there should be five in the set. Besides the two parts he held, there should be three other scrolls scattered in this world.

And indeed, weren’t there still three unopened cages, symbolizing the other three scrolls? But one of the cages was empty—what did that represent? Could it be that the scroll inside has been destroyed and is now lost forever?

Where is this place? Why are there cages representing five scrolls? How did I end up here? Is this a dream or reality? Most importantly, how exactly can I leave here?

Just as the Mage was pondering these questions, he felt a tremendous pressure emerging from behind him. The cold that had just been driven away by the sun rushed back into his heart. Lynch turned around and saw a figure standing on the slope he just climbed. Endless darkness formed the figure’s body; sunlight circled around him and never touched him. Massive dark clouds billowed from his back, swirling around that tall and strong figure, forming a gray-black gaseous armor.

In his hand, he held something like a scroll. It was also the source of all the black mist.

The man raised his arm, pointing at Lynch at the base of the slope. His right index finger extended and traced a gentle circle. Instantly, a ten-meter-high circle of fire ignited around Lynch, sealing his escape routes in all directions.
