Chapter 82: Episode 21 Rise_3
A few crossbow arrows flew over, and Deluo dodged by lowering his head. His arm muscles bulged like small hills, and his hands alternated rapidly, rhythmically pulling the rope. He kept his gaze fixed, focusing only on the tunnel entrance they had come from, dozens of meters away.
The Snake-men also started boarding the other elevators, pursuing them. Although none had the strength of Deluo, they were not slow at all—5 or 6 Snake-men were pulling the ropes like a tug of war, quickly lifting their comrades high.
Lynch frowned; these Snake-men were indeed fast. He pinpointed the fastest elevator and directly cast the Oily Technique on the rope used for pulling it up.
Nimo also picked up his crossbow and began shooting down. With the elevation advantage, the Snake-men struggling below to pull the ropes were nothing but immobile targets. Arrows shot out with high frequency from Nimo’s custom-built rapid-firing crossbow, pinning into the Snake-men’s heads below with a loud thud. Every arrow caused a scream below.
At this moment, a massive figure charged out from the tunnel entrance, crashing into the ice wall Lynch had created, shattering it instantly. Box-sized ice chunks flew everywhere, causing the Snake-men around to howl in panic, further adding to the chaos.
The Mage looked down and drew a sharp breath. A gigantic four-legged monster with five serpent heads stood on the ruins of the ice wall, glaring at the Mage and his companions. Its skin was covered with cuts, each one appearing burnt black, clearly the result of repeated lightning attacks. It stared with ten eyes at the slowly rising cart, and its entire skin immediately turned red.
"Five-Headed Flame Snake Lizard!!" Lynch immediately recalled the records in books about this monster. Besides their formidable bodies and terrifying combat skills, they had the ability to breathe fire, making them extremely difficult to kill. They definitely could not catch up now, or the five heads would bite them to death, leaving him and his two companions with no chance of survival.
The Snake Lizard clamped its four sets of claws and sharp teeth in its four mouths onto the stone crevices in the well wall, beginning to climb vertically upwards, pursuing the Mage and their elevator.
Thinking quickly, Lynch used the Cloud Mist Skill beneath himself. These Snake-men could navigate the dark Underworld without light, surely having excellent Dark Vision, but they certainly couldn’t see through mist like with an Eye of Insight. After releasing the mist, the Mage immediately erected an iron wall at the boundary above the mist—a final barrier to escape and block the enemy.
Meanwhile, the Snake-men pursuing on the elevator were getting closer, and they picked up their crossbows, aiming at Lynch and the others. Just a few meters higher, and they could shoot the intruders dead with dense crossbow bolts.
But they would never climb those few meters. The rope, made slippery by Lynch’s Oily Technique, slowly reached the hands of the "tug-of-war" Snake-men below. The smooth surface made it impossible to hold, and the weight-bearing rope slipped from their hands.
A group of Snake-men let out "Ahhh" or "Awoo" sounds as they fell from dozens of meters high. Deluo watched the "Heavenly Snake Scattering Bloom" across from him, spat lightly, and said, "Die! Serves you right!!"
The Five-Headed Flame Snake Lizard continued climbing rapidly, and once inside the mist, it could see nothing. Lynch heard a "bang" from below, knowing it was the Snake Lizard crashing into the iron wall blocking the stone wall. He peeked down from the elevator, seeing the Snake Lizard poking its heads out of the mist, clamping its limbs and several heads tightly to the iron wall’s edge, trying to climb over it directly.
"Idiot! Don’t you know the iron wall will fall?" Lynch muttered, and with a thought, the connection between the iron wall and the stone wall immediately broke. The Five-Headed Flame Snake Lizard, losing its only point of support, began falling, clutching a large iron plate tightly in its claws.
The Mage was about to sigh in relief, glad to have escaped the greatest enemy, when the Flame Snake Lizard launched its attack. The five long snake heads swung in the air, spewing five streams of scorching flames, fiercely burning toward the Mage’s elevator. The air around became unbearably hot, making breathing feel like consuming hot coals, burning their lungs painfully; Lynch’s hair tips began turning yellow and curling, and the sudden increase in temperature made it impossible for Deluo and Nimo to open their eyes.
Fortunately, with the creature falling, the Flame Snake Lizard couldn’t aim accurately, and the flames missed the elevator; unfortunately, one stream of fire hit and set the rope at the top of the elevator aflame.
With a "snap," the rope snapped, and Deluo, Nimo, and Mage Lynch let out a cry of "Ah!!" as they plummeted from the elevator...
