Chapter 83: Season 22 Fleeing

Five Flame Snake Lizards started falling from the sky, and the Snake-men below screamed, scattering in all directions to avoid the massive falling figures. Some other Snake-men saw the destroyed elevator and noticed the three intruders—two large and one small—also starting to fall. They quickly picked up their weapons and gathered around, waiting by the possible landing spot of the three—they planned to give these uninvited guests a "feast."

Lynch had no interest in such a feast. The moment the Flame Strike hit the support rope, Lynch began thinking of a solution. Today, he didn’t have any more Feather Fall Spells prepared, and he hadn’t even considered preparing a flight spell. As for spells like Floating, he usually never used them. The Teleportation and Dimension Door spells were good options, but on one hand, Lynch hadn’t yet recovered to the spellcasting level akin to a Great Mage, so he couldn’t use these spells; on the other hand, even if he could, these spells could only be used for self-preservation and not to save the other two.

Now, looking at the nearly hundred-meter height difference below, Lynch thought that even if he didn’t die from the fall—which was a very slim possibility—he would be drowned by the swarming Snake-men. Thinking of those corpses hanging on the wall, Lynch could only choose to take a risk using that method, a method he had never tried before.

"Spider Web Technique!" Lynch cast this spell at the space beneath the three of them, and a twenty-foot (about seven meters) radius web suddenly opened in mid-air. Lynch controlled the spell’s point of eruption to perfectly hit a platform on the next level, allowing one part of the web to appear in mid-air while the other part stuck securely to the platform.

The sticky white spider silk instantly entangled Nimo’s feet, and he naturally landed on the web, holding on tightly; Deluo immediately understood the mage’s intention and spread his arms to hold onto the web securely. The web itself was not a wall; it couldn’t support the weight of several people in mid-air. Now, it resembled a net pouch, beginning to swing the two towards the adjacent wall.

Lynch just managed to grab the end of the web.

Thud, thud, thud! With these three sounds, the three of them struck the stone wall at once. Seeing the silk he was holding was about to loosen, Lynch punched the stone wall along with the swinging force, with the Refined Gold sinking deep into the rock face, hanging the mage in place.

Deluo tore off the spider silk on himself with brute force and quickly climbed up to the platform above him. Then he began to pull at the web with both hands, and in no time, Nimo, like a little fish caught in a net, was hauled up, his whole body tightly wrapped in white spider silk, unable to move at all.

Deluo ripped open the web to free the dwarf, and he rummaged through Nimo’s backpack for a long rope, throwing it to the mage still hanging on the cliff. The little dwarf, terrified moments ago, now leaned against the inner side of the platform, fervently patting his chest and taking deep breaths.

The mage was also pulled up to the platform, and only then did he have the time to look at the five-headed Snake Lizard that fell into the deep pit. The unlucky creature first suffered from the lightning damage, then fell from mid-air, and to its misfortune, was clutching an entire iron wall. Now, no trace of the Snake Lizard could be seen below; Lynch could only see a large iron plate with blood pooling underneath it.

A safe landing, but in reality, they were far from safe. The height they were at wasn’t the same as the platform at the cave entrance they initially came from. The entrance next to them led to unknown destinations. Dozens of Snake-men were chasing up the spiral staircase, and several more elevators stopped at a higher-level platform, with plenty of creatures starting to run down from above. They were about to be surrounded from above and below.

"There’s nothing we can do, staying here would only see us trapped to death. No matter what’s inside this cave, we have to move forward now," Lynch turned to the other two, saying. Nimo and Deluo nodded, and the three dashed into the unknown cave in unison.

Just as they entered, several crossbow arrows whistled through the air, nailing the spot where they had just been standing.

This passage was just like the one they entered earlier, with thick slime on the walls. Lynch had a flash of inspiration and placed an illusion spell behind them, creating the image of a corridor corner on the originally straight path, the destination leading directly to the extremely sticky walls.
