Chapter 307: Episode 14 Past

Secrets, like a prairie scorched by a wild fire, leave behind a blackened expanse, with decaying dust covering the land, seemingly devoid of life. Yet when the moment arrives, vibrant new buds stubbornly emerge from beneath the soil, blooming with bright flowers, unveiling a nearly forgotten history before everyone’s eyes.

If the rumors about the Elf Queen’s age are true, then the woman standing before Lynch is a legend holding the most secrets.

"Mage Lynch, you should be very familiar with the war a thousand years ago. As a member of the Mage Association, there must be many documents that recorded in detail what happened during that time."

"Yes, Your Majesty," Lynch replied, "I have read in detail some related records."

"Do you know why, during the battle that swept across the entire continent, Heather, as a Holy Land, remained unaffected?"

"It should be because the elves were blessed," Lynch said, not having a precise answer in his mind, but he continued, "or perhaps because Heather’s elves did not participate in that war, the flames of war didn’t spread to this land."

"No, that is not the case." Empress Hernfurry paced slowly around the stone pillar, seeming to awaken her past memories this way. "Our Elf Clan was actually the first to challenge the gods."

Lynch took a half step back in surprise; the revelation was truly shocking. If what Her Majesty said was true, then for a thousand years, the mages who bore the responsibility for initiating the war were actually shouldering it for the elves.

"Within our Elf Clan, there are also many highly skilled mages who can wield extraordinary power with ease. These elves have very close ties with your Mage Association." The Elf Queen sighed. "Because of our elves’ inherent pride, and the unruly nature of those mages, my control over the elf mages diminished increasingly. Their closeness with the Great Arcanists surpassed the bond of elven blood. Prior to the Great Arcanists’ challenge against the gods, the elf mages had already chosen their target to attack."

"If I’m not mistaken, it would be the God of Prophecy," Lynch said.

"Yes, events unfolded as you expected." The Queen’s speech grew slower, as if millennia of secrets had become a burden, gradually weighting on her shoulders. "A total of thirteen hundred and twenty-one elf mages lost their immortal bodies, and another hundred and seventy-two never saw the light again. The flesh of these comrades decayed under the scorching sun, never having the chance to mingle again with the gentle streams of Erutalon. Even with my abilities, I couldn’t bring peace to the souls of these pitiful compatriots. They are eternally tormented, drifting across the Anriel World with the curse from the gods before their deaths. I will always remember all of this."

"Truly terrifying," Lynch said. "In that war, too many races paid an immense price."

"Yes." The Elf Queen said, "The God of Prophecy also fell, but he had already foreseen his own death and preserved his physical body in advance. When his Divine Power returns to his body, he will once again descend upon this world."

"I suppose the Great Arcanists of that time would not have let such a possibility become reality. They must have taken measures."

The Elf Queen offered Lynch a slight smile, but due to the painful atmosphere stirred by the story just now, the smile carried more bitterness.

"The body of the God of Prophecy was imprisoned, and a strong barrier separated him from the world. The powerful force of prophecy, scattered across the world, was sealed within this ’Space-Time Marker’ as the elves’ trophy. By relying on the power of future prophecy, while the Great Arcanists battled the gods, the elves were able to avoid harm and survive that dreadful war unscathed."

Lynch frowned, looking at the massive stone pillar before him. He never expected that this single divine artifact could imprison a god’s power, truly showcasing the Ancient Great Arcanists’ mastery.

"If that’s the case, why did a group of elves move underground?" Lynch asked, puzzled.

"Even though the power of prophecy guided us forward, the tide of history was stronger; where would there be a true paradise in a world ravaged by war?" Her Majesty gradually regained her composure, breaking free from the painful memories. "To prevent the complete destruction of Salantir, a part of the elves’ land inevitably became a buffer zone. The compatriots there faced the frenzied enemies alone for the sake of the entire race’s interests. It was thanks to them that our bloodline was preserved."
