Chapter 306: Episode 13 Rainy Night_3
"I salute you, great Elf Queen." Lynch showed his respect to the elf in front of him. He did not use a mage’s etiquette but rather the greeting from his homeland. A mage’s etiquette was always full of endless arrogance, which seemed out of place in the presence of the "Master of Time".
"Welcome, my friend." The Queen nodded slightly. She moved half a step to the side, her right hand sweeping in an arc to make a gesture of invitation, without speaking further.
The two of them walked into the depths of the dense forest, encountering no other elves along the way, only the rustling of leaves accompanying them. The path beneath their feet was slippery after the light rain, but Lynch knew that before the first rays of dawn arrived, the heavenly dew would be completely absorbed by the Holy Forest, nurturing this piece of land.
The Queen stopped in front of a green hedge, waving her hand gently, the vines parted to open the path. A floating staircase approached and stopped in front of them.
"Are we going to the ’Secret Realm’?" Lynch asked in confusion, "It’s forbidden for outsiders to enter there."
The Queen did not speak, only stepping onto the transparent stairs. But the smile on her face and the expression in her eyes were encouraging the mage to follow.
Full of doubt, Lynch also stepped onto this airborne passage.
The so-called ’Secret Realm’ was at the top of a withered old tree, the only dead plant within the Holy Land. However, the elves believed that this tree used its own life to support the ’Secret Realm,’ therefore having no strength left to grow and expand, a perfect embodiment of self-sacrifice. Under this tree, countless poems of praise and sorrow had been created and spread to other realms.
Without a canopy, one could look up from here and see the brilliant night sky, dotted with stars. The moonlight seemed to be focused, turning this place into a snowy white expanse. At the tree top far from the ground, stood a giant stone pillar protruding from the tree trunk and erected in front of the mage.
This was one of the elves’ divine artifacts, the place known as the "Space-Time Marker." It was here that the Elf Queen performed her prophecy magic to foretell the future.
"Lynch, my friend, have you noticed the problem with this divine artifact?" Queen Hernfurry stopped in front of the stone pillar, speaking to the mage.
Lynch used the Eye of Insight, carefully scrutinizing the object in front of him. In his vision, only the Elf Clan’s Queen had not changed a bit; even the power to see through everything could not discern her condition. However, under the gaze of those black pupils, the "Space-Time Marker" revealed its true form, densely packed with magic arrays inside the stone pillar.
The entire divine artifact was undamaged, every part perfectly intact. Yet Lynch immediately noticed the anomaly: a divine artifact that should have been filled with magic power now appeared lifeless, like an ordinary stone, without any sign of activity.
Noticing the change in Lynch’s expression, the Queen said, "As you’ve found, this divine artifact has lost its function, and our Elf Clan’s prophecy abilities are significantly affected. Now, the future has closed its window to us, and like other races, we are engulfed by a vague mist, unable to see our path clearly."
"Yes, Your Majesty," Lynch said, "This will have a tremendous impact. If there’s anything I can do to help, I will always assist my elven friends as before."
"Thank you for your kindness, it is as warm and enchanting as the morning sun," the Queen said. "Before the Space-Time Marker lost function, I performed a prophecy spell, hoping to find the path the elves should take. By the blessing of the great Moonnia Goddess, that prophecy clearly unveiled much information."
"Your Majesty, using too much prophecy magic is a huge strain on your body and can even affect the entire Elf Clan’s strength. Please think it over carefully," Lynch said. "My mentor Caso was harmed in health by using prophecy magic."
"I understand, Mr. Lynch, but I am willing to bear this harm," the Queen slowly stated. "In that prophecy, I saw terrible things, darkness, endless darkness shrouding the entire land, even this Holy Land was not spared."
The Elf Queen placed her hand on the stone pillar, seemingly borrowing the divine artifact’s power to support herself. She closed her eyes, as if unwilling to see the vision she had witnessed. However, her words did not stop, continuing to flow like a stream, recounting everything she had seen.
"Countless lives perished in the darkness, ancient and splendid traditions turned to ashes in black flames. It seemed everything had lost hope, only awaiting the final apocalypse. I focused my mind, searching for light in the darkness, not letting even the faintest hope go unnoticed." She exhaled slowly and continued, "In the distant north, even beyond the reach of the beastmen, there is a faint glimmer. It is a half-elf man, a descendant of elves and humans. Around him, darkness cannot approach, and on his path forward, light will dispel the thick fog."
"Are you saying a savior appeared in the prophecy?" Lynch furrowed his brows. He was also a mage proficient in prophecy, though he seldom used such spells, yet his mentor Caso had taught him everything.
"If that’s your thought, it aligns perfectly with mine," the Queen said. "Afterwards, I foresaw your arrival and some other things, but the visions became increasingly blurred until they vanished. The Space-Time Marker has since revealed nothing, shrouding my eyes."
"When did this divine artifact lose its function?" Lynch asked.
"About four months ago, the Space-Time Marker lost all its power."
Lynch calculated in his mind, that was exactly when he was still in Ratris City. Batana was gathering strength, preparing to absorb the second family; and Lynch, at this time, was working hard in the Black Crystal Tower to decipher Drow magical language.
A flash of memory passed through his mind, recalling the words of the first matron Batana before her death, connecting the two events, which could explain the Space-Time Marker’s failure.
"Your Majesty, I once heard such a message from a Dark Elf. She said, the God of Prophecy is dead."
Hernfurry gazed into the mage’s face, her emerald eyes twinkling like stars. After a moment, she spoke, "If the first family of Ratris City says so, then the God of Prophecy is indeed dead."
She stepped in front of the mage, looking into Lynch’s pure black eyes, "Mage Lynch, what I am about to say next is extremely important. But please do not spread it. Some secrets, like a plague, could destroy everything in this world."
The mage nodded, a serious expression on his face as he waited.
