Chapter 308: Episode 14 Past_2
"However, not all elves can endure such a brutal situation. After all, war goes against our nature. A small group of elves decided to leave their monster-ravaged homeland, willing even to enter the dark, cold, sunless underground. They used a long staff to take a part of the God of Prophecy’s power, and even stole the essence of the Ancient God."
The Empress paused, seemingly realizing she made a mistake in her words: "I should say, the things they took originally belonged to the elves who sacrificed their lives. Using the term ’steal’ isn’t entirely accurate. They fought hard underground, but due to their lack of numbers and strength, they abandoned the Moon Goddess—Moonia, and turned to the Spider Goddess of the Underworld, thus becoming Dark Elves."
"I see," Lynch asked, "Then why didn’t the Great Mages of the past destroy the God of Prophecy’s physical form?"
"That would be impossible," the Empress said. "The Great Arcanists separated the god and his power, but as long as that divine power exists, the physical body will remain forever."
Upon hearing this, Lynch was now more concerned about the fate of the Magic God than the death of the God of Prophecy. If the Magic Network consisted of the remaining divine power of the Magic God, was his body waiting for rebirth somewhere?
"When the power of the ’Space-Time Marker’ disappeared, we elves, like other creatures on the continent, faced an unknown future. Fortunately, at the last moment, the prophecy of the Savior brought us inspiration," Her Majesty said. "Even now, I cannot be completely sure what the scenes that appeared under the influence of the Spell truly signify. But there’s one thing I am sure of: the appearance of that Savior may be related to you. If there’s any power in the world that can provide a more detailed explanation, I believe only your mentor, the Great Prophet Caso, possesses it. Only mages can foresee the future without relying on the power of the God of Prophecy."
"How may I serve you, esteemed lady?"
"I will soon inform the leaders of various nations on the continent about the detailed scenes from the prophecy. Before that, I sincerely hope for the assistance of a Great Mage. Before darkness descends, this may be the last trace of twilight. While we can still see the road ahead, we should take a few more steps."
"Alright, esteemed lady," Lynch said. "I will speak to my mentor about this."
"Thank you very much, Mage Lynch. You have built a bridge of communication between us and the Mage Association," said the Empress. "Now I can rest assured. Young mage, do you have any other requests?"
Lynch frowned in thought, considering whether he should do something for Zilvra. He evaluated the potential consequences and dangers this matter might bring, finally deciding to reveal everything in this setting.
"Your Majesty, I have a friend for whom I’d like to apply for Salantir residency, so she can have a place to belong in this world," Lynch said. "To be frank, she is a Dark Elf. Although she only has half Drow blood, I cannot deny her origin from Ratris City."
The Empress’s expression remained unchanged, as if she had long been aware of this matter. Her flickering emerald-green eyes seemed to be pondering something, standing motionless before the ’Space-Time Marker.’
Lynch did not move either. He would not leave until the Empress spoke. A gentle breeze blew through this "Secret Realm," lightly stirring their robes: one as pure and white as snow on mountain peaks, the other as deep and dark as the tranquil night sky.
Even half-elves with partial elf blood experience exclusion among elves; most half-elves traveling the continent are unable to return to the Heather Holy Land. The hatred towards Dark Elves has long surpassed mere exclusion. For a thousand years, the Drow’s raids and killings against surface elves have sown the seeds of ancestral enmity.
Lynch kept his head down and avoided looking into Hernfurry’s eyes, even bypassing the Elf Queen’s area with the Eye of Insight. He waited, like a solitary rock standing by the vast, boundless sea, silently awaiting.
"Mage Lynch, we the Elf Clan welcome friends and their friends. The exception is the Dark Elves, who are difficult for us to tolerate. This history carries too many past events and painful memories," the Empress said. "We know a person by what they do, but for Dark Elves, we won’t take that risk. In judging the character of some Dark Elves, we have lost too many outstanding souls. Thousand years have taught us this lesson: no pardon for Dark Elves."
