Chapter 242: Episode 88 Changes
Lynch looked at the already deceased Batana, unsure how to express his feelings. That hand always reaching for the sky and Batana’s final despairing expression were deeply etched in his heart.
Priests, their power comes from faith, from God. They pray daily and live according to the teachings of God to gain the ability of Divine Arts. However, if they act against God’s will, that power can be stripped away at any time. In the end, Batana should have been able to heal herself, but she didn’t. Her divine arts didn’t work. It can only be said that her god abandoned her.
Lynch silently pondered what kind of power could truly be called one’s own. The most powerful mortals—ancient Great Arcanists—didn’t they launch a campaign against the gods to free themselves from the shackles of the magic god’s power? In the end, the Arcanists died, and many gods vanished along with them. That true power remained beyond human grasp, and the Magic Network still existed.
As a Mage, Lynch also hoped to find power that he could freely control. When he used to study magic, he thought that the magic obtained through constant practice and accumulation of knowledge was his own and was thrilled by it. But Mage Quizzman could easily erase that ability, reducing him to a state like a cripple. The Primal Magic he was now learning ultimately was still the wisdom of others. Didn’t the ancient Arcanists all use this system? Yet they still remained constrained by others.
At this moment, Zilvra emerged from the Black Crystal Tower, holding her thin sword. Even though it was already scarred and barely usable, Zilvra was resolved to fight. She didn’t want Lynch to face Batana alone. But surprisingly, in such a short time, the first matron was already dead, which took Zilvra by surprise. She stood behind Lynch, and just as the Mage was staring dazedly at Batana’s corpse, she too fell into deep thought.
Lynch sighed and turned around to see Zilvra, who was lost in thought: "Why did you come out? There’s nothing wrong here, go back into the tower."
"Okay!" Zilvra readily agreed, sheathed her weapon, and turned to enter the Black Crystal Tower.
Once the tower door closed, Lynch shouted loudly outside: "Regula, come out! I’ve already seen you."
"Haha, you’re still as vigilant as ever. So it seems, the first family is indeed completely finished." The Martial Monk jumped down from the wall with a smile, standing in front of the Mage. "Truly formidable, even the first matron fell at your hands."
"No, Regula, she merely died because the Spider Goddess abandoned her." Lynch knew that Batana at the time was not without the power to fight again. His victory was thanks to the "Great Goddess."
"Regardless, she died in front of you, there’s no doubt about that." The Martial Monk spread his hands: "Now, I believe it’s time for you to help me."
"If you want to bring that Spider Elf now, I have no objection," Lynch said. "But what do you plan to do in the future? Swear allegiance to the new Dark Elf Family?"
"No, Mage, I have other plans." The Martial Monk laughed, showing a cheerful demeanor, a stark contrast to his usual stern face.
"Alright then, where is Zarra?"
Spider Zarra scurried in from outside, appearing very agitated, perhaps intimidated by the atmosphere of Ratris City. After all, a Spider Elf would instinctively fear the Drow. But upon seeing Lynch, she straightened up, forcibly suppressing her trembling, adopting her former proud demeanor as she stood before the Mage: "Human! Was it you? Do you have a way to restore me to my former self? Regula, do you really think this person can help me?"
"Yes, Zarra. I have a way. But you will endure tremendous pain. Are you ready?" Lynch had no particular fondness for Zarra; he was merely fulfilling his promise. And the Martial Monk assisting Zilvra’s escape was also an important reason.
