Chapter 68: The storm brewing
For the first time in his life, Veyne got to experience the true meaning of luxury.
After messing with him for a few minutes, Roonie switched the car back to normal auto mode and shifted the control to manual to drive it himself.
The comfort of his car on the Normal mode was next level. It felt like he was still inside his home, watching the world from his sofa.
But Veyne did not let this luxury blind him. He quickly controlled himself and stared at Roonie in silence.
Roonie tried to ignore him for a few seconds, then asked in irritation, "What?"
"How come you are here?"
Roonie just focused on the road. "With you not there, there was no point to the party, so I decided to tag along."
Veyne just nodded and asked in a blunt tone, "What about this party?"
From their very first meeting, Veyne realized that Roonie was not some mindless party freak.
And sure enough, Roonie glanced at him and said with a poker face, "Well, don’t you think a party is a perfect place to announce our new arrangement to others?"
Veyne smiled and asked while pointing to the car, "And what about this extra generosity?"
A wild smile formed on Roonie’s face as he said, "Well, after that stunt you pulled in the city, how could I not reward you?"
Veyne tilted his head. "Just for that small matter?"
Roonie raised his eyebrow. "Small matter?! Geez, you might not know, but this small action of yours shocked even some people from the Akinu guild."
Roonie started laughing. "Hahaha. Dude, my sister almost went mad when she heard that not only did all the Spink members die, but they even had to compensate us. How the hell did you even manage to think of such an idea?"
Veyne now understood why Roonie was so excited. It was likely this was the first time Kiyon was not on the receiving end.
He sighed, "But it’s not like we recovered all our resources. Losing control over a wild zone was a much bigger loss."
Roonie clicked his tongue. "Well, it doesn’t matter. It’s not like we were gaining anything from the Wild zone, anyway."
Veyne turned to Roonie. "What are you talking about?"
Roonie sighed. "Even though the wild zone is officially under our Kiyon guild, Zack and the others could never manage it correctly. That’s why I decided to give control of the Wild zone to my sister, in return for Spink helping Kiyon with those dreaded tasks."
Veyne cursed. "Fck, that’s why they were able to start that monster wave."
He turned to Roonie and asked, "At this point, why do you even bother with the Kiyon guild?"
Roonie sighed. "It’s complex, man. Just know that the day Kiyon collapses, it’ll take a couple of lives with it."
Veyne rolled his eyes. "Hey, don’t be like that. Can’t you just create a second guild?"
Roonie shook his head. "Don’t even joke. This one guild is already giving me such a big headache."
"That’s why I’m telling you to enter the game."
Roonie paused, but then shook his head. "No, things would get much messier. Now is not the time."
Veyne thought for a while. To be honest, if possible, he didn’t want Roonie to enter the game, as it might limit his movement inside it.
But the big problem was that, without the Akinu connection, there was no point in being part of Kiyon at all.
And Roonie was the only person who could build the connection between Kiyon and Akinu.
After some thought, he decided to take a risk and said in a deep tone, "Roonie, what I’m about to say needs to stay between us."
Roonie just raised his eyebrow. "Why so serious?"
Veyne took a moment and said, "I can’t say for sure, but there’s a high chance that a big server-wide event is brewing inside the game."
"What?!" Roonie stared at him with wide eyes.
Veyne pointed at the road. "Look ahead."
Not bothered, Roonie just tapped and said, "I just started auto mode. Just tell me about this event."
Veyne stared at him for a moment and asked, "With how agitated you are, it looks like even you got some hint about this, right?"
Roonie clicked his tongue. "I just learned about some weird movements from the Akinu guild. Shit, those bastards must’ve had clues about it too."
Veyne paused. With how big the surge was going to be, it was likely that some of the mid-size guilds might get some hint about it.
He nodded his head. "There’s a high chance they had some clue. This must be the reason your sister decided to pull Spink out of the city. She must be gathering her forces."
Well, to be honest, now that he thought about it, there was a high chance that what he just said was actually true.
He could not think of Akinu as your average mid-level guild.
They might not be that strong in the game, but they do have massive backing in real life.
There was a high chance for them to get certain information that only top guilds would receive.
Well, one thing was for sure: the big guilds had already started to move.
The biggest proof was the Radiant trio. He knew for sure that those three weren’t the only ones.
After all, the Radiant guild was more central-continent-based, while the Rowali Kingdom was located at the bottom edge of the sixth server.
Roonie asked at this time, "So what kind of event is going to happen?"
Veyne shook his head and said, "I’m not sure, but it’s likely that all the big guilds are going to use it to create chaos again."
Roonie stared at him and started cursing.
If there was one thing that all players could associate with big events, it was guild wars.
It was the perfect time to expand your guild’s influence, but the problem was NPC factions.
There were certain factions within the game that wanted to expand the areas they controlled, and for that, they used the big guilds.
This gave those guilds a free pass to attack any city they wanted.
So basically, you had two choices: either face those guilds head-on or become part of them.
For an organization like Akinu, the second option was not possible. So it was likely that a visible war would happen, with some collateral damage.
With how bad the Kiyon guild was, it was likely Akinu would pull out its support.
Veyne realized this was the perfect time, so he decided to drop the bomb. "Roonie, this might be your last chance to join the game as a Kiyon member. It’s better to give your all than leave things behind for a possible downside."
Roonie went quiet.
For a moment, Veyne thought he’d struck a nerve.
Then Roonie muttered, "If I join, Kiyon might not survive 1 month."
