Chapter 67: The new car
Veyne just stood at the college door, lost in his thoughts, when he saw a sleek 2-seater, matte black Zenith Stryke stop before him.
The car windows rolled down, and to his shock, he saw Roonie in the driver’s seat.
Roonie smiled at him and said, "Come on, hop in."
Veyne stared at Roonie and then at the car. Even with his limited knowledge of cars, he knew the Zenith Stryke was not something a beginner should drive.
This thing was a beast that could hit 300 miles per hour in less than 10 seconds.
He took a deep breath and calmly opened the car door.
Even though he was trying his best not to freak out, he could sense his leg shaking. What the hell? He never imagined he would get to sit in a Zenith car so soon.
As he entered the car, Roonie tapped on the floating projection to his side, and the next moment, the car door automatically closed, and a seatbelt strapped around his chest for safety.
Roonie smiled at him and said, "This baby is the Zenith Stryke MK3, the latest Onyx black variant that can easily hit 500 miles in sport mode. Do you like it?"
Veyne scratched his head. "Are you sure a beginner should have a Zenith? Don’t you think a Tydax Mobility or Voltas Automotive suits me more?"
Roonie stared at Veyne with an open mouth. "Dude, even beggars don’t drive those cars. And don’t worry—this car has the Rockus.9 AI road assistant with 0.3-second reaction speed. So as long as you don’t drive over 450 miles per hour, you won’t even be able to crash this thing."
Veyne stared at the interface in front of Roonie in awe.
He knew that Rockus.9 was the latest road assistant available.
It was much more advanced than the Ruzeki Engineering his father used.
Roonie said with a smile on his face, "Not only that, it even has 3 modes."
Roonie tapped on some buttons, and the next moment, Veyne felt his seat tilting back.
The side windows turned a thick black hue, then he saw the roof of the car light up and transform into a giant screen.
Suddenly, everything inside the car became quiet.
From the front windshield, he could see they were moving, but inside the car, everything was extremely silent.
Roonie explained, "This is the Automatic Normal mode. Just set the location and you get to enjoy the ride."
Veyne stared at the roof, which now had stars on it.
He felt like he was lying under the night sky in some grassland.
From the surrounding speakers, he even heard the sound of insects crawling and birds chirping.
Roonie tapped on the front panel, and the next moment, the top of the car became transparent so he could see the bright sky.
Even the sunlight entered from outside.
Veyne stared at Roonie and said with bright eyes, "Dude, this is cool."
Roonie started laughing. "Haha, this is nothing. Let me show you the other two modes."
The next moment, the screen disappeared, and it became your usual car roof. Even his seat rose back to its sitting position.
With another touch, Veyne saw the car’s top start folding back, and the car transformed into a topless luxury car.
Roonie smiled and said, "Women like this mode most."
Then he noticed the black interior beneath his feet moved down, and a white furry interior took its place.
Even the outside of the car changed to this deep purple color. "This is your Royalty Mode. Right now, there are just 2 color options and 2 interior options. Don’t worry, in the next few days, I’ll add a couple more colors and interior options."
Veyne just nodded while glancing at the deep purple color and the side sections.
This roof drop system was much more advanced, as even the side section connected above the door had shifted inside.
It felt like this car had never had a roof to begin with.
Even the white furry interior was much softer. He felt like he was sitting on a cloud.
Roonie moved the steering and said, "Yeah, keep in mind that Royal Mode is not for speed. It’s better to stay below 200 in this mode."
Veyne nodded, understanding that without a roof, air resistance increases. "What about the third mode?"
Roonie started laughing. "Haha! Looks like we share the same interest. Don’t worry, let me show you the Beast Mode."
Veyne tilted his head, not understanding what Roonie was talking about, but he didn’t get much time to think; as the next moment the car roof came back, the interior switched back.
He even noticed the front section of the car changing back to Onyx black.
But the transformation didn’t stop there. The seat curved more like a C, making him sink deeper.
Both their seats even shifted back a bit. It was like they were sitting in a theater.
Next, two grey helmets popped out from the dashboard.
Roonie picked up his helmet and said to Veyne, "Wear it."
Veyne was confused, as he had never heard of someone wearing a helmet inside a car.
But the moment he wore the helmet, he found himself sitting in a different world.
The road before him appeared clearer, and he could even see far ahead.
Roonie said, "We’re in Beast Mode now. Try focusing on any car."
Veyne followed his instructions and saw that the moment he focused on a car, a lot of information appeared before him.
About the car type, its current speed, whether it was accelerating or decelerating, and the distance between that car and theirs.
Not only that—in most of them, he could even see thermal imaging that showed how many people were inside the car.
It worked for almost all the cars on the road, except maybe one or two. When he focused on the models of those cars, he finally understood—only the top models had thermal protection.
Roonie said at this moment, "Start the Beast Mode."
The next moment, their car model appeared in front of him.
All the details about the car started flashing through his eyes.
The more he looked, the more his eyes widened as he saw there were 16 burst motors all around the car—four at the back, two on each side, four at the front, and the last four next to the four car tires.
These side motors were there to give an extra boost to the car.
He then saw the car’s height lowering a bit, and multiple small tail-like flaps appeared at the back.
The road before them turned into this black and white wireframe model.
Roonie asked him, "Are you ready?"
Before he could respond, Roonie slammed the accelerator, and he felt a massive force that sank him deeper into the seat.
Cars flashed past them at incredible speed.
The car was so fast that every time they passed another car, he felt their car shaking.
Instead of slowing down, Roonie pressed harder on the throttle, and at that moment, Veyne realized why the Zenith Stryke was a no-go for newbies.
Both he and Roonie screamed for the next 15 minutes—one in fear, the other in mad excitement.
It turned out to be a ride Veyne would never forget for the rest of his life.
He made a vow to never sit next to Roonie again.
