Chapter 62: Lab upgrade
The moment Forsyx shook hands with Weyril, the entire lab started shaking, and a couple of notifications popped up in front of him.
Ding!
[Lab assistant Weyril is getting synchronized with the lab.]
[The formation of life link is in process...]
Ding!
[Life link complete.
The lab assistant has gained secondary authority over the template lab and its surroundings. The secondary authority will allow the lab assistant to manage the lab in your absence.
(As the master of the lab, you have full control over the secondary authority you wish to give or remove from your assistant.)
Current Assistant Synchronization: 30%.
(Note: Help your assistant reach 100% synchronization to unlock the assistant’s special skill.)]
Forsyx stared at the notification with interest.
He focused on the assistant synchronization and then looked at Weyril.
He didn’t have to do much, and the synchronization was already at 30%, much better than the 5% start of his past life.
But he didn’t think much of it, as he had failed to achieve 100% synchronization in that life.
Even with a head start, he knew it would take a lot of time.
The other notifications were just the usual ones, linking Weyril to his lab as second-in-command.
He waved his hand to close the notification and said, "Lab status."
The next moment, a green notification popped up in front of him.
[Template Lab:
Lab level: 1.
Number of stored templates: 3/10.
Lab Assistant: Weyril.
Funds: 2 gold, 50 silver, and 32 copper coins.
Funds: 20 coppers.
(Note: Upgrade the lab to open more facilities inside the lab.)
]
He tapped on the lab level to see the upgrade conditions.
[Lab Level 1 → Lab Level 2.
Upgrade Conditions:
* Equip at least 2 templates: Done.
* Reach level 10: Done.
* Complete at least one in-game quest: Done.
* Move out of the beginner village: Done.
* Lab Upgrade Cost: 1 gold coin (Sufficient funds).
...
You have met all conditions. Do you want to upgrade the lab? (Yes/No)
{Upgrade Time: Instant for the first normal upgrade.}
]
Forsyx smiled.
At least there were no changes to the upgrade conditions.
The toughest of them was earning a gold coin.
It had taken him more than 15 days of grinding to earn that amount in his past life.
The NPCs in the game were super stingy.
Even this time, after completing that special quest, he barely got 50 silver—and that was when more than half the players had died.
If not for the extra reward from the Hibiki monster’s death, he had planned to ask Kiyon for the gold.
But now that he already had sufficient money, he wasted no time and tapped "Yes."
[The lab upgrade is about to start. Forced teleportation in effect: 3...2...1...0! ]
Zap!
The next moment, both Forsyx and Weyril were teleported outside the lab’s main gate.
Weyril asked in confusion, "What happened, boss?"
"Nothing. I just upgraded the lab," Forsyx said casually as he focused on the massive lab.
It looked a bit bigger than the first time, likely due to the special upgrade, as normal upgrades didn’t affect the lab’s size.
He saw the entire lab shaking.
Lights flashed from random parts of the lab.
It took around five minutes before the lab began to settle and a new notification popped up in front of him.
Ding!
[You have taken the first step on your journey as a Template Wilder. Multiple facilities are opening inside the lab for your access.]
He heard creaking sounds as the main gate once again started to open.
Ding!
[Template Lab Space status:
Lab level: 2.
Number of stored templates: 3/20.*
Lab assistant: Weyril
Funds: 1 gold, 50 silver, and 32 copper coins.
Ideal time space: 2 times.*
]
Forsyx stared at the lab status.
The biggest upgrade was that he now had 20 template card storage slots.
Then there was the new addition of Ideal Time Space. With one tap, its description popped up in front of him.
[Ideal Time Space: Time will flow 2x faster within the lab compared to the game world.
(Note: The moment you enter the lab, the time flow will switch to normal until you exit the lab.)]
Thankfully, it was the same as his last life.
This single upgrade was the backbone of his entire Template lab.
It was a very important feature to scale the production of template cards in his lab.
In Apex Ascension, most monster- or summon-related classes could be categorized into two groups based on how they gained power.
The first was the assimilation group.
Basically, these classes relied on stealing or using the powers of other creatures as their own.
Some of the best examples were Dead-Summoning Necromancers, Mass-Summoning Mages, and many others.
Take Dead-Summoning Necromancers, for instance. Their strength came from reviving dead bodies.
The stronger the body, the more powerful the resulting summon.
There were many players in his past life who did grave-digging just to make progress in this kind of power.
The same applied to Mass-Summoning Mages.
Their strength also came from the number and power of the creatures they could summon.
The second category was the breeding group.
These focused on breeding or training a limited set of creatures to their highest potential.
A good example of this type was the Creature-Summoning Necromancers.
What set them apart was that they could summon specific types of undead not tied to dead bodies.
These kinds of necromancers were rare, but there was one particularly famous player in his past life known as Skeleton Dancer.
That guy could only summon a bunch of weak skeletons at the start, but he could train and evolve them.
It was much slower compared to traditional necromancers, but over time, the guy became strong enough to take on entire guilds using nothing but skeletons.
That’s not to say the assimilation method was weak.
Heck, one of the top 5 guild masters in the entire game was a Beast Tamer, who commanded massive beast armies.
Both powers were great, and most taming-related classes used a mix of both methods.
Now, it was very important for players to understand the power mechanics of their class.
As for his Template Wilder class, it was more of the optimized breeding through assimilation.
On the surface, he was a breeder, as his entire power relied on the template cards. His entire focus was to create a powerful template card as possible.
But the creation of these template cards was linked to the method of assimilation.
He was more like a pig farmer who took in small piglets, cared for them, fed them until they fattened up, and then sold them to the butcher to die.
Ding!
Another notification pulled him out of his thoughts.
