Chapter 56: The Kiyon guild situation.
As Forsyx listened to the conversation, he started putting together the puzzle pieces of Chimika City.
He remembered Roonie talking about the warning he had received from the second cobra child.
It looked like she had already started to act on it.
She must be behind the Spink Guild.
The Four Blades should then be the next-in-line strongest guild present in the city.
Those guilds must be after the monetary percentage.
Basically, the resources were the key to the cooperation between the city nobles and the ruling guild.
A city required a lot of stuff to function, and NPCs were willing to pay a high amount for it.
Every month, they contacted the ruling guild and the Adventurer Association to give them a list of the things the city needed and the amount of money they were willing to pay.
The ruling guild was mainly the middleman, who then forwarded these requests as paper quests while keeping a percentage of the reward for themselves.
There was no system involved in any of this.
The Adventurer Association used old-style paper pamphlets and notice boards to issue these tasks.
This way, a ruling guild earned without even lifting a hand. But there was a big catch to this.
The ruling guild had to make sure that all the necessary tasks got completed on time.
There were many tricky tasks that others did not want to do, and the ruling guild had to handle those themselves.
If they failed to achieve that, their relationship with the NPCs would deteriorate.
At some point, there was even the chance that the faction of NPCs would stop giving them quests altogether and instead choose another guild to do the work.
That was the stage where the ruling guild became more of a puppet guild.
From what he had heard, Kiyon was way past this stage, to the point that they practically had no say in the Adventurer Association.
It was bad for business, sure, but not the end of the world.
The key in this cooperation was that NPCs could start working with other guilds, but they could not remove the ruling guild themselves.
It was in the hands of other guilds.
Someone from them needed to challenge the Kiyon Guild for the city ruler’s guild position, but he doubted those guys would dare to do that.
If he were in their position, he would also stay quiet.
Forsyx shook his head, swallowed the last bit of beer, and started to walk out.
He knew with the big surge coming, it was only a matter of time before Kiyon would lose everything.
Kiyon was a sinking ship. There’s no point tying any of his resources to it now.
It was already doomed. After understanding the ground situation, he finally walked toward the Kiyon Guild office.
As the ruling guild, it was not hard to find the guild office.
He found a two-story building near the center of the city. At least they had a decent guild office.
As he walked up to the guild office, he noticed two NPC guards sizing him up and down.
When they saw the silver bear badge on his chest, they relaxed and silently bowed to him, while one of them opened the door for him.
Forsyx nodded to them and walked into a small but lavish reception hall filled with black leather sofas.
A red carpet covered the marble floor, and various pictures adorned the walls.
This looked more like some noble household than a guild reception.
He saw a couple of players idling around on the sofa, busy talking with each other.
At the opposite end of the hall, there was a big reception table with a girl sitting idly behind it.
As he walked to the desk, the girl nodded to him. "Good to see you, sir."
The way she addressed him made it clear she was also an NPC.
He nodded to her and asked, "Where is Zack?"
She tilted her head for a moment before it hit her, and she stared at him with wide eyes. "Are you looking for the guild master?"
Forsyx nodded, "Yup."
She just stared at him for a second too long before she shook her head. "Sorry, sir, you’ll have to wait. The guild master has gone out for an important task."
Forsyx clicked his tongue.
At that moment, he heard a loud shout behind him. "Sir, you are already here."
Forsyx turned around and saw an unknown guy shouting at him. He tilted his head in confusion. "Do you know me?"
The guy nodded his head enthusiastically. "Ah, sir, I was part of the team that came to deliver you the crystals. Even though you look a bit different, how could I forget your face?"
Forsyx raised his eyebrows and focused on the guy’s face.
He remembered a bit about the leader; as for the others, they were nothing but background to him.
Well, it did not matter.
He walked up to the guy and asked, "Care to tell me where Zack is?"
The guy looked down and said in a low tone, "Sir, actually, some stuff happened in the Webcadi Forest wild zone. The guild leader had to take the top two teams to deal with that problem."
’Webcadi Forest. Was this also related to the Spink Guild?’ He thought to himself as he asked, "So, who is in charge in Zack’s absence?"
"Usually, the vice leader, Lark. But he also went with the leader, so right now the second vice leader, Lorim, should be in charge."
The guy asked, "Should I call her?"
Forsyx rubbed his chin and shook his head. "Forget it. Any idea when Zack will come back?"
Before the guy could answer, they heard a loud shout.
A man covered in blood rushed in from outside as he walked toward the counter and shouted. "Both teams are annihilated!"
Before the receptionist or others could ask anything, the guy puked blood one last time and collapsed onto the floor.
Silence!
Everyone in the reception just stood stunned as they watched the dead body, which soon disintegrated before them.
Forsyx slapped his forehead. Fck, now he had to wait a whole day just to meet Zack.
