Chapter 55: The Chimika city
Forsyx finally took his city permit and stepped inside the city for the first time.
A notification popped up in front of him.
Ding!
[Changes in the revival point detected.
New revival point: Chimika City.]
This notification made him smile a bit, but then he remembered the hours he had spent standing in the queue, which spoiled his mood.
He took a deep breath.
Though it was annoying, he had experienced worse, so he had learned to control his anger.
He shook his head and decided to take a stroll around the city. It was better to experience the mess himself than to let others manipulate him.
Chimika City had the common three-section circular design.
Right now, he was inside the outer slum section, which was overcrowded with players and NPCs.
There was a 50- to 100-meter empty zone between the outer stone wall and the row of common houses.
City guards were constantly patrolling there.
He found that there were three gates to the city.
Each of these gates connected to a massive road extending deep into the city center.
There was a mesh of minor roads of different sizes spread across every nook and cranny of the city like a spiderweb.
Most of the roads directly attached to the main stone road were mid-sized roads that allowed two rows of carriages to move in and out.
Deep in the residential area, he found many alleys where not even two people could walk side by side.
There were mostly wooden buildings in the outer section.
As he continued to move deeper, he found a massive circular stone road that cut between the outer and middle sections.
This single road separated the rich from the poor.
He saw multistory stone buildings filling the middle section, a stark contrast to the outer section.
What was even more different was that the middle section was filled with all kinds of markets.
Most of the administrative buildings—from the city mayor’s office to the guild management building, along with the Adventurer Association and even the bank—were present in the middle section.
The middle section was the heart of the city, though the condition of this part was subpar at best.
It took him almost two hours of walking before he saw another stone wall at the inner end of the middle section.
Beyond that was the core area where all the noble NPCs lived.
That was a restricted area where only a limited few could enter.
Being the city’s master guild, the members of the Kiyon Guild should have had that privilege, but he didn’t bother entering the core section.
Not only was it full of hassles, but he also didn’t want to get tangled in any noble mess.
Things were different from the beginner village.
Here, the NPCs were as unpredictable as the players, especially the rich ones.
Forsyx moved back to the middle section and decided to check out the city administration building.
The more he saw, the more disappointed he became.
The city itself was running fine. But the big issue was the randomly scattered Kiyon Guild members.
Barely a handful of Kiyon Guild members were around these administration buildings.
Heck, even in the Adventurer Association building, he only saw two Kiyon Guild members.
He could tell at one glance that other small guilds were managing these buildings for Kiyon.
His Limia Guild used to do the same, but that only happened when the leading guild was incompetent.
What made him frown more was that he saw around ten Kiyon Guild members guarding some random warehouses around the city.
This showed that the ruling NPC house had negligible trust left in the Kiyon Guild.
Kiyon Guild’s condition was worse than that of a puppet master.
An unknown player couldn’t even guess that Kiyon was the ruling guild of this city.
To get a better understanding, he randomly walked to a cheap tavern at the other edge of the middle section.
As he stepped inside, he saw dozens of players scattered around, chuckling over beers.
These guys had no concept of time, drinking like there was no tomorrow.
Not caring about them, he walked up to the counter.
A middle-aged man with a potbelly smiled at him and asked, "What would you like to have, sir?"
Forsyx took out a silver coin and replied with a smile, "Give me the spicy one."
The fat man snatched the silver coin with a wide grin and said, "Feel free to pick any table, sir. Your drink will be ready in a moment."
Forsyx nodded to him and walked to the empty table next to the rowdiest group.
For a moment, he felt a couple of eyes on him, but they soon lost interest.
As he settled in, he heard a drunk shout from his left.
A green-haired guy smashed his beer mug on the table and wailed, "Why the hell do these things always happen to me?"
The guy beside him patted him on the back. "Don’t cry, man. You’re not the only one who died in there."
The mage girl on the side slammed her foot. "Ahh, why the hell did we have to run into those Spink bastards? Don’t they care about meeting the city’s demands?"
Forsyx picked up the beer cup from the waiter’s hand as he focused on the group conversation.
From the looks of it, things were getting messier.
The guy with a big hammer on his shoulder said in a low tone, "The rumor must be true."
The second guy asked in confusion, "What rumor, leader?"
The hammer guy sighed and said, "I heard that the Spinks have started pulling out of this city."
"What!!!" The mage girl stood up, eyes wide. "Wait, why? They’re the strongest ones in the city. Why not control it?"
Even though she said that, she knew it wasn’t that simple.
The second guy said in a low voice, "Wait... Don’t tell me they were trying to squeeze as much as they could before leaving the city."
The first guy mumbled, "Doom. This city is doomed." He looked at the hammer guy and said, "Leader, should we change cities?"
The leader adjusted the hammer on his shoulder and shook his head. "No need to panic. The Four Blades are already on the move. We might get the chance we’ve been waiting for."
At that moment, a waiter walked to Forsyx with a big beer cup in her hand.
Forsyx picked up the beer cup as he started to put together the puzzle pieces of the Chimika city.
