Chapter 47: Start of monster wave
’Fck, how did it change from the player event to the monster event?’
Before Forsyx could react, a familiar notification popped up in front of him.
[The start of the monster cycle:
For the next 45 minutes, survive the assault of the players along with the monsters.
Note: Every 5 minutes, the 5 closest players to you will receive the message about the ancient beast.
]
Ding!
[The birth of the ancient. The 5 closest random players will receive a special quest from the world of Apex Ascension.]
Forsyx glanced at the timer and sighed. At least the timer had decreased by 15 minutes.
He was not that concerned about the other players. With all the commotion starting in the village, it was only a matter of time before they caught on.
Instead, he just stared at the thousands of footsteps running around the center and middle parts of the forest.
He even caught a glimpse of the elite boss using his enhanced wolf’s vision.
It looked like all of them were scanning the entire forest in search of him.
Before he could think more, he heard the familiar sound.
Coo coooo coo coo...
He looked up and saw dozens of the Pipler birds and a few other kinds of birds circling above his head, all screaming with red eyes.
As they screamed, all the monsters paused in their tracks, then turned in his direction.
Before Forsyx could think much, he saw all ten pipler birds, along with a bunch of other birds, mindlessly diving toward him.
Grrrr!
Forsyx growled, trying to scare them.
After all, he was a unique-grade monster. These common monsters should be scared of him.
But it was completely ineffective.
The birds started dropping in madness, trying to use their beaks as weapons.
Forsyx jumped down and saw dozens of birds drop head-first.
Most died on the spot, while those who barely survived started screaming at him while trying to move up and attack again.
He just stared at them with a pale face.
Not wasting a moment, he jumped in front of them and swiped his claws.
Puchi! Puchi!
A single touch, and their bodies burst like balloons, painting his claws with their blood.
Forsyx looked at the bloody mess in shock.
It looked like this berserk state actually increased the blood flow in their bodies, causing them to enter this mindless madness.
Howwww Awooo Allloooo
Forsyx looked up and saw almost ten canines about to reach him, with thousands more behind them.
He glanced back one last time in horror and jumped away.
It was one thing to fight berserk monsters, but thinking about how those birds screamed gave him chills all over his wolf’s body.
The way they were screaming before diving—no, it was not just pure madness, but a controlled one.
He saw, once again, the canines that were about to reach him start to bark and howl.
It was like they were signaling to each other about him, all while having those same red eyes.
He was sure now that the monarch’s call was different from the simple call of madness. This was the madness with one purpose: to kill him.
As he ran, multiple small creatures started to jump in front of him, from snakes to even rabbits.
All were trying to obstruct him one way or another.
Forsyx just crushed through them. But the more he looked at the madness, the paler his face became.
One thought haunted him: if he died in this form, it would be all over.
This madness was nothing like his past life. He wouldn’t survive this in his rabbit form—forget about protecting the helpless baby Nyxthar.
Forsyx didn’t get to think much as a group of goblins jumped at him with daggers.
Jueee jueeeee.
Forsyx took a big leap and jumped over their heads. The goblins tried to slash at him, but they were just too small.
But that was just the start, as he smelled another batch of goblins running from the front.
With a twist of his tail, he changed direction.
He took a big whiff and smelled all the big and small creatures around him.
Those that were impossible to avoid got crushed beneath his feet.
His experience from his past life came in handy now. In that life, canines were his go-to form.
There was just a lot of variety to them, and he had developed his lab in a way that suited the growth of canines.
His goal was to move past all the players he could smell.
In this entire forest, if there was someone he could use as a shield, it was those mindless players.
Puchi!
He just snapped a small snake in two as he scanned the area. He shook his head and rushed in another direction.
There was a limit to how much he could run.
Even with an extra 30% overall boost along with a 20% bonus to his stamina, he could at most run for 20–30 minutes.
But doing that would be short of seeking death.
After all, once his stamina reached zero, he would be dead meat—ready to be devoured.
That’s why he was looking for a suitable place. A place that would suit his fighting style.
Suddenly, he looked ahead with wide eyes and stopped running.
Another massive army of canines was closing in on him from the front.
He glanced behind and frowned. With how wide that army was, it was almost impossible to avoid them.
He wasted no time and poured 30 of his remaining stat points into agility and said, "Player status."
