Chapter 48: One against all

Forsyx focused on his agility.

With all the enhancements, his agility crossed the 50-point mark.

The next moment, he felt a jolt go through his entire wolf’s body.

With wolf-enhanced senses, he could feel some minute change in his muscles. They felt more stretched now.

He leaped, and in the next moment, he almost jumped to the next tree.

It was close to double the distance of a single leap.

He smiled, then focused on his unassigned points while still running around.

This was much different from his human form, where he had that bronze dagger that glided through monster meat.

Just to test, he tried to open his inventory, but nothing happened.

Well, this part remained the same.

He swiped his claw, cutting another snake in two as he focused on his defense and strength.

Right now, he had nothing but glass defense.

The safe option would be to invest more in defense—that, along with his extra vitality, would help him survive longer.

But then the big problem would be strength.

With his current strength, it would take around two hits to kill a goblin—forget about other big canine beasts.

The best way would be to invest points in both. Too bad he didn’t have sufficient stat points.

After some thought, he decided to pour 10 extra points into his strength.

He decided not to just dodge and run, but to show them true madness.

After all, another way to control a crowd was to show your brutality.

His dire wolf template also gave him 40 percent extra strength.

It was much better than the 10 percent defense reduction.

Even his template wanted him to dominate others—so be it.

Not thinking much, he poured 10 stat points into strength and said, "Player status."

He slashed his claws.

They felt much stronger than before—not a massive difference, but still more than sufficient to crush all the defenseless beasts.

Awoo awoo awwww!

Hundreds of loud howls pulled him out of his thoughts as he saw hundreds of furred beasts running toward him.

Awooo aoooo!

He glanced back and saw a similar scene there.

He took a deep breath and looked at the ground, specifically the big shadow on the ground cast by the thick tree.

The next moment, his golden eyes turned dark as he said inside his mind, ’Shadow Assimilation.’

He sensed himself jumping into the ground, and the next moment, everything became dark around him.

He lost all his senses and found himself in this dark space—kind of similar to what he experienced while logging in with the gaming pod.

Only now, he saw this eerie grayish world.

It was like looking at an old photograph.

Before he could think more, he felt the world around him morphing as he found himself out on the other side of the shadow, exactly where he had been looking.

It hit him—this was kind of similar to an assassin’s shadow jump.

It’s just that while assassins could only hide themselves in shadows, he could jump through the dark, black shadow space.

He stopped running and closed his eyes, focusing all his attention on his ears and nose.

The canines were within range—just a couple of hundred meters away from him.

He just stayed still, not making a single movement.

Soon, the other canines spotted him. With no obstruction between them, all of them started howling in the craziness as they sprinted at him with everything they had.

100 meters... 90... 80... 40... 30... 20... 10.

At that moment, Forsyx opened his eyes and screamed,

"Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhh." (Sonic Howl!)

Silence.

Forsyx could feel he was screaming with all his power, but no sound reached his ears.

No sound of his howling, nor the surrounding chaos.

It was like a thick blanket of silence had engulfed the battlefield for a moment.

The next moment, the sound returned, and he saw all the canines’ eyes glaze over, getting a bit sluggish.

It was not that big of an effect, though.

Almost everything became normal with the closest canine just an arm’s length away.

Forsyx’s eyes turned dark as he jumped into the greyhound’s shadow.

The greyhound swiped at the air in confusion, but the next moment, the massive dire wolf jumped out, straight at the hound’s neck.

It didn’t even get to whimper before the dire wolf ripped its neck from its body.

The dire wolf tossed the hound’s neck aside and jumped, staring at the oncoming army.

From time to time, it disappeared, only to emerge a moment later, leaving behind the corpses of a few more canines.

Instead of calming the canine horde, it excited them, as ten of them began jumping wherever the dire wolf emerged, all trying to injure the beast.

Some even managed to bite the dire wolf, only to meet their end the next moment.

A massacre of the canines started inside the forest, where a single rogue beast took on the entire swarm.

It jumped to the left, slashing its claw at nearby foxes, taking their lives in the process.

But in the next moment, all the nearby monsters jumped toward the dark wolf.

Before they could land on the dire wolf, it disappeared again, only to reappear ten spots ahead, completely avoiding those that had leapt at it.

It did the same again, slashing down two heads while crushing a third with its mouth.

The surrounding beasts noticed him and jumped once again—only for the same process to repeat.

...

Forsyx’s eyes darted around as he felt some pain in his leg.

Not wasting a moment, he jumped into the shadows and appeared behind the beast that bit him, digging his claws into it and ending its life instantly.

The next moment, ten wolves with bubbles foaming in their mouths rushed toward him, all looking to bite a chunk out of him, as he once again jumped into the shadows.

The surrounding forest was full of monsters.

It was complete madness. And right at the center of this madness, he killed one beast after another, covering the ground with a layer of corpses.

At this time, he heard that familiar, distinct howl.

The howl of the elite boss, but then he heard another howl of the same intensity from the opposite end.

He jumped back into the shadow with the pale face.
