Chapter 220: FEELING THINGS

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: IF HEAVEN HAD COMPASSION ~ ALIN]

Axilla was the first to leave the dining before everyone. She needed to compose herself before going to sleep in the same room with Cortez. She tried so hard to act normal, but Cortez kept doing things that made her body tremble, and deep down, she enjoyed it, and it was scaring her because it felt as if she didn’t know herself anymore.

"Axilla, yes?" Axilla turned to look at the person who was calling her name. It was the crown princess looking at her with a smile.

"Your highness," Axilla bowed politely.

The Crown princess walked to stand beside the girl, "The air is always soothing, especially when you have a lot going on in your mind." The young girl who was also Axilla’s age said.

Axilla nodded, "That’s true." She looked at the crown princess from her side eyes and wondered if the royal blood also had something on her mind.

"You want to know why I’m sounding this way? Yes, I do have something on my mind," the crown princess remarked, resting her upper body on the balcony while raising her hands like a bird about to take flight.

Axilla quickly rushed to hold the girl so she wouldn’t fall, wondering if she was maybe trying to kill herself before the wedding.

The crown princess finally relaxed, "I’m scared, I’m scared of getting married. Actually, this is not the life I wanted. I’m not even supposed to be Adric’s bride; my sister eloped with her lover, and my father decided that it was right to send me to Avon." The princess paused, "And Adric...." her voice trailed, "I feel he doesn’t know anything about me. I am not the type of princess he should be getting married to, you know all prim and proper kind of Princess. I am clumsy, I love getting into trouble and trying out new things. But the man I’m getting married to is going to be King soon and he doesn’t need all of this." The girl touched her eyes.

It was dark, so Axilla couldn’t see clearly if the girl was crying or just cleaning her eyes. She moved closer to comfort her. "You can tell him about it; maybe he will understand and let you go," Axilla suggested because she couldn’t imagine getting married to someone she was not attached to.

The crown princess scoffed, "So innocent, you think that’s how the royal family works? I just have to go through with it and live that way the rest of my life." Her voice sounded distant, like she was sad, then she turned and gave Axilla a bright smile.

"I see why The young merchant fancies you so much. I wish Adric would also look at me the way Cortez looks at you, even for a moment." The crown princess shrugged her shoulder.

Axilla touched the girl’s hand slightly, trying not to cross the line as she was still lower than the crown princess in status.

"Everything would be fine, and Crown Prince Adric is a nice person," she suggested.

The crown princess nodded, "If it’s not too much, you should catch my flower tomorrow, okay? I don’t have any friends here. Please?"

Axilla felt honored by it, "Is not too much, It’s an honor." She bowed, remembering how beautiful Kitanna’s flower bouquet looked and how she picked those flowers with Cortez. Axilla blushed.

The crown princess paused for a moment then she smiled again, "You know I saw you right?"

Axilla furrowed her brows, a little confused about what the princess was talking about. Where did she see her? Or what did she see her doing? She asked in her mind.

"During dinner, my spoon fell on the ground. I saw him touch your -"

Axilla’s windpipe was blocked by something invisible; she wheezed trying to catch her breath. It was embarrassing enough that Cortez did what he did, and she was trying to forget it. Now an extra pair of eyes, saw it. She couldn’t survive it.

The crown princess tried to rub Axilla’s shoulder to help her calm down, but the girl kept coughing.

"What’s wrong with her?"

Axilla almost passed out when she saw Cortez, and beside him was the crown prince. She raised her face, pleading to the crown princess not to say anything.

"I think it’s the food; it passed through the wrong pipe," the crown princess lied.

It was a strange lie because she already finished eating long ago. But it was better than telling everyone that Cortez had touched her leg during dinner. By the time Axilla’s cough subsided, her face had already turned red from both embarrassment and coughing.

"I’ll take her inside." Cortez rushed to hold the girl as they made their way inside the palace.

"Goodnight, Axilla," the crown princess waved at the girl.

Immediately Axilla stepped inside the room, she wriggled herself from Cortez’s hold and jumped on the bed, using the bed cover to wrap herself while pretending to fall asleep.

Cortez rubbed his fingers together and grinned; the girl really liked to act like a butterfly, always taking flight when he came close, but it only made him want to chase her.

When Axilla felt the right side of the bed sink, she knew Cortez had joined her on the bed. She tightened her eyes shut, forgetting to even breathe.

"Axilla, please breathe." Cortez said, noticing how stiffened the girl was.

Axilla finally let go of the breath she didn’t know she was holding. But it didn’t last long because the next minute she felt the heavy hands of Cortez rest on her waist, and she panicked.

"Young master!" Axilla didn’t know when she shouted. This man was going to be really the end of her.

"Hm? What happened to Cortez?" The young man grinned.

Axilla bit her lower lip, "Please show some mercy; you’re making me feel things I don’t know, and it’s bad." She cried, trying to move away from Cortez’s hold but his hand gripped her waist, pulling her closer to his chest where she could feel his warm breath on her neck, and this made her stomach knot.

"Feeling things is good. I’m holding you so you don’t catch a cold; you looked really red outside. The weather here in Avon is colder than other places, and I don’t want you getting sick. Now stay still bright flower and stop moving, else you’re planning on turning me on." Cortez replied without any shame, but his words sent Axilla’s world spinning without any control.

Long minutes passed, but Axilla couldn’t fall asleep; how could she fall asleep when she was being held like this? She thought. Was he finally asleep? Axilla asked herself. Slowly, ever so slowly, she turned around to face Cortez. His eyes were now closed, with a peaceful look on his handsome face.

"If you get bloodshot eyes by tomorrow, people would wonder what we did throughout the night."

Axilla shut her eyes the moment she heard Cortez speak. This sly man; he wasn’t even sleeping. She bit her lips.

Cortez touched the girl’s face, "You don’t really know how to act." He smiled.

Axilla finally opened her eyes to meet his midnight black eyes staring back at her. She blinked, "The crown princess is not the one Crown Prince Adric is supposed to marry." She finally said.

Cortez moved on the bed to make himself comfortable, using his hand to hold up Axilla’s head, then wrapping her with the other. "I know bright flower, even Adric knows. Now if you don’t sleep, I’ll assume you want me to do something."

Axilla gulped, and the next minute she closed her eyes, still aware of Cortez’s presence, but this time she finally drifted to sleep.
