Chapter 218: ONE ROOM AND A COUPLE
[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: FULL MOON ~ SEORI]
Axilla felt the back of her palm itch seriously. "Who is cursing me out?" She sighed. They had already arrived in Avon, but because of the wedding, the palace had so many guests waiting to be attended to. Cortez had gone to get their room ready, and as she stood on the side waiting for him, the back of her palm kept itching persistently. According to her beliefs, it meant someone was cursing her, and she wondered who it was.
"Are you Lady Axilla?" Axilla’s attention was called by a maid who bowed to her politely. So she nodded in response.
"Your room is ready; let me get your things." The maid said, moving behind Axilla, she carried the bags that were there and started walking while Axilla followed the girl behind.
Axilla enjoyed the beautiful view of the palace; Avon was located very close to the sea. So the palace was built with clean streams surrounding it and a bridge that helped people move around while still having a clear view of the water bodies. Axilla enjoyed the view; the palace was as big as the ones she had visited, and it was also very beautiful. The walls were painted all white, and red flowers were used to design each pillar. She noticed that the guests came in numbers, and it was because of the Crown princess that Prince Adric was getting married to. Her kingdom was also a very powerful one.
The maid guiding Axilla stopped at a door and opened it, moving to the side for Axilla to enter first, then the maid placed the bags on the ground and bowed, leaving the room.
Axilla ran to the big fluffy bed; it felt so cozy, unlike what she was used to. She touched the curtain, which had small bells that made tingling sounds when they moved. The room was very comfortable and had a homely touch. Axilla lay there on the bed with her eyes facing the ceiling and her leg touching the ground. She wondered where Cortez was, and slowly she found herself drifting to sleep, but then the door opened, and she sat up.
"I hope you would let me have a little space on the bed; it seems like you want every part of it," Cortez remarked, looking at the girl with mischief dancing in his eyes.
"Hm?" Axilla furrowed her brows, using her hand to remove the rumpled part of her gown; she got up from the bed.
Cortez tried to stop the evil grin from spreading on his face. "One room for each couple," he replied, watching as the girl’s eyes widened in shock.
Axilla gulped; they were going to spend the night together. Alone. All night!! Calm down, Axilla. Calm down, Axilla. She tried to calm her jittering nerves. "Tell them we are not a couple yet, an unmarried man and a maiden sleeping in one room, if something should happen..."
"Something? What could possibly happen apart from sleeping? I accepted the offer because we’ve spent the night in the same room in the past. Is there a difference now?" Cortez lured the girl in with his sly words.
Axilla fondled with her hands, "We spent the night together; that time I didn’t...we weren’t...." She tried to put it into words, but she was just confused. The only thing running in her mind was sleeping on the same bed with Cortez. Heat rushed up Axilla’s neck, and her cheeks flushed pink.
Cortez dipped his hands inside his trouser pocket, standing tall like he didn’t understand what the girl was worried about. She had innocently accepted for them to sleep together in the past, but now, Axilla’s mind was corrupting; she was now aware of him as a man because of the feelings he put into her head. He wasn’t going to stop until he engulfs Axilla’s whole soul with his corrupted soul.
"Now now bright flower. Let’s not stress the bride and groom because of something as flimsy as this. Some guests outside might even sleep outside tonight because most rooms are occupied and what do you ask for? A separate room? That’s not fair," Cortez remarked with a disappointed tone.
"If it really makes you uncomfortable, I will go-"
"No! Don’t worry. It’s just sleep; I’m fine," Axilla stopped him from moving out. It would be sad if she makes others sleep outside because of her personal reasons. It’s not like Cortez would swallow her whole.
Cortez stopped in his track, with his back facing Axilla; he grinned. That was the last line, and Axilla grabbed the hook.
"Great, I’ll inform the maids to get everything ready so we can join Adric for dinner. You should meet his wife too." Cortez opened the door and walked out.
Axilla held her heart that was now racing, "Axilla, calm down. Cortez is innocently spending the night in the same room with you, and your mind is already running wild! Relax..relax...." The girl breathed in and out.
As darkness engulfed Avon, most of the guests finally settled inside their rooms. Everyone was busy getting ready for dinner, and it was the same for Axilla.
She packed her soap and dress, carrying it inside the bathroom; she watched to see what Cortez was doing, but he looked really occupied with what he was reading on the parchment.
Cortez noticed from the corner of his eyes as the girl snuck inside the bathroom, going to get ready for dinner. He smiled; she had been acting sneaky since he entered the room, and it was because her feelings were really changing.
Inside the bathroom, Axilla first removed her dress completely, then she stepped inside the warm bath. It really did wonders in calming her nerves; since she realized Cortez would be in the same room with her whenever she stepped out of the bath, she couldn’t calm herself down. But now sitting in the bath, she was feeling much better.
Done with her bath, Axilla tied her hair with the towel she stepped in with, then wrapped her body with another towel. Having served the royal family, she knew how to draw baths, so she decided to do the same for Cortez.
Axilla opened the drain, flushing out the used water. She covered the drain and filled in new water, adding the remaining petals and shiny stones inside the water. She nodded in approval when she was sure the bath was ready.
"Are you not done?" Axilla almost lost her balance when she heard Cortez’s voice.
Cortez rushed to hold the girl’s waist, stopping her from tripping, but because Axilla’s towel was coming off loose from her chest, she tried to push Cortez away, but they both crashed inside the bath, splashing water the whole place.
"What are you doing?" Cortez asked with his eyes narrowed at the girl.
Axilla closed her eyes, not only was she naked under the water, but her bare body was touching Cortez. "Please close your eyes." She begged him in a small voice.
Cortez closed his eyes as instructed, "Done," he said.
Axilla didn’t want to think too much; she carefully removed Cortez’s hands that were on her waist. Then picked up her wet towel, stepped out of the bath, she dashed out of the room. Her face peppered red with
blush; it was a bad idea for them to share a room. Axilla used the pillow to reduce the impact of her scream.
Cortez finally opened his eyes when he heard the girl’s muffled scream from the room.
"So innocent." He smiled when Cortez raised his fingers; he remembered the delicate texture of Axilla’s skin and how it felt when it touched his own skin. He relaxed in the bath still wearing his clothes; he closed his eyes.
