Chapter 217: THE KING’S PERSONAL GUARD

[MUSIC RECOMMENDATION: STILL~ DVWN]

Many full moons passed by until the day of Crown prince Adric’s wedding finally arrived. Axilla packed in the best of her dresses, since they were going to visit Morado. She was so excited to finally visit the palace and tell everyone her adventures and also listen to their own. When she left the palace she didn’t know she would stay for so long without visiting and with the initial troubles that had her shaken, she thought she would run back to Morado the first day.

But with her growing relationship with Cortez and the support of her friend Kayla, it became easier to be among other merchants. Despite Kayla being a handful the girl was still the most supportive person Axilla met outside Morado apart from Cortez.

"Axilla, the carriage is ready," Kayla entered the room, helping Axilla with her silk folded bag.

Axilla glanced around her room briefly, realizing it would be some time before she returned. "Kayla, I’m so happy you agreed to go with us."

The girl, Kayla, smiled, then she pinched Axilla.

"Ah..! What was that for?" Axilla rubbed her hands as she glared at her friend.

"I’m going to wait for you at Morado while you and Chief go for your honeymoon. How will they welcome me if I don’t come back with you!" Kayla whined. The plan was that she would carry their loads and arrive at Morado first, while Axilla would join her after the wedding at Avon.

Axilla chuckled; she was also surprised when Cortez told her that the wedding would be just them, no assistants, and they would stay there from the wedding eve till after the wedding day. Just them. Axilla blushed when wild thoughts raced in her mind.

She shook her head, stretching her hand to hold Kayla; she said, "Everyone at the palace would welcome you, once you mention you’re my friend. There’s Clephas, Severus, lovely eunuchs. Then Lady Larel, a very kind sweet woman, she’s Chief Cortez’s sister, she has a son, and there’s the Princess Kitanna, she’s Queen now. A very lovely Queen, I used to serve her personally, heard she’s expecting a child soon. Then there’s the White Lord, now King. He is like my elder brother and then his grandfather, the elder white Lord, Lord Heiron.... They are all great people, you’ll love them."

Kayla nodded, taking notes of everyone that was being mentioned. "Uhh, you even have the king as your elder brother. You’re also a noblewoman haha..." The girl teased, then she raised her eyebrow, "Everyone in the palace is perfect, it means I have nobody I should look out for?" She asked.

Axilla tapped her fingers on her lips, trying to think if anyone was a nuisance in the palace. "Hum... Anyone you should look out for.... I don’t think...." Someone flashed in Axilla’s mind, and she clapped her hands, startling the other girl.

"There is one person, a very crude unruly human being, a big nuisance. He is the personal guard to the king, make sure you avoid him okay?" Axilla instructed, and Kayla nodded with her eyes a little bit narrowed.

Finally, when Axilla and Cortez were ready, their carriage was the first to move as they headed towards Avon.

Kayla’s own carriage finally arrived at Morado; by the time she arrived, it was already evening. She retrieved the letter that Axilla had given her to give the Queen. At the palace gate, she was stopped and prohibited from going inside until every good was searched properly, then she was allowed inside.

As Kayla tried to get down from the carriage, she missed a step but didn’t fall completely on the ground as someone held her tightly.

"Watch it, Lady," the guard with brown rough hair cautioned before moving his hands away.

Kayla saw the angel halo dance around this guard’s hair for a brief moment. "Everyone in the palace is truly amazing." She smiled, forgetting herself for a brief moment.

"Chantal, who is that?" Kitanna and Larel stepped outside the palace when they heard the carriage troupe inside.

Kayla finally composed herself when she saw two women dressed elegantly step outside. One was holding a little boy, and the other was heavily pregnant. Just like Axilla told her, they were very beautiful women; Kayla guessed who was the queen and who the lady. She got down on her knees and bowed deeply.

"Greetings Queen Kitanna and Lady Larel, I was sent by Chief Cortez and Axilla. They would arrive Morado after the wedding at Avon."

Larel was the first to step down and go to the young girl, holding her up she said, "Stand up dear, How is Cortez? And Axilla?"

Kayla stood up from her position, brushing the dust off her knees. She said, "They are very fine, they send their greetings. Axilla asked me to give the Queen this letter."

Larel took the letter and walked back to hand it over to Kitanna who read it there immediately.

"Come inside dear one, Chantal move all these inside and get the girl a room she can stay." Kitanna ordered, walking back inside the palace with her steps heavy and her hand holding her waist.

Larel gave the girl a sweet smile, walking back inside to help Kitanna as her stomach was now getting bigger as the day passed.

Kayla went to join in bringing in the bags; when she lifted one, it almost slipped from her hand when someone grabbed it from her.

"Go ahead, I’ll bring these ones," Chantal remarked, dragging the heavy bags like it was a bag of feathers.

Kayla smiled; she was glad she came to Morado. To finally meet gentlemen like these. She followed the guard to the room that was cleared out for her. It was a decent-looking room also located inside the main palace.

"The Queen asked that you should have your bath and come join them for dinner. If you need anything, a maid would come to help you with that," Chantal told their new guest who had been staring at him since she arrived like there was something strange on his face. He shrugged his shoulder and turned to leave.

Kayla, who tried to look beautiful in front of the guard, as she flipped her hair around, standing in awkward positions. Before the guard could leave, she called him out. She needed to have someone behind her if she was going to avoid the nuisance Axilla told her about.

"Excuse me, umm there’s someone I have to avoid here. Can you point out the King’s personal guard for me?" Kayla asked politely with a sweet smile.

Chantal raised his brows, turning properly to look at the girl’s face. He was now interested to know what the girl wanted with him. "I..."

"I heard the young man is a walking trouble, very uncouth, unruly, and a big nuisance." Kayla wagged her tongue.

Chantal was stunned at the list of adjectives used to describe him, and he knew exactly who would tell the girl this, but he asked to be very sure. "And where did you hear this, Milady?"

Kayla blushed, "I got the right information from Axilla; she made sure she told me everything about everyone, and the worst is the King’s personal guard." The unsuspecting girl announced, trying to look good in front of the young guard.

"Axilla, yes?... Nice, and she didn’t tell you this guard’s name. You don’t have to feel scared; I will protect you from the ’nuisance’ guard." Chantal grinned, his mind schemed on how to crush Axilla once she comes back.

Kayla nodded, "Thank you so much; I’m glad I met you first."

Chantal smiled sweetly, "I’m glad you did..."
